    Hello.... I am relocating to the Philippines from the USA, with my dog of course, in exactly 1 year. I was so overwhelmed with everything I was having brain freezes on looking things up and trying to understand all the verbiage and what applied specifically to me in all of the steps. Well now I have a much clearer idea and I am not so lost. Thank BOTH of you for making the video for traveling internationally with a large dog.So many of the videos are for small dogs, so it was nice seeing your video.

You both will love it here. 🏝️On our trip here we had a layover in Lisbon and it was in Lisbon that Leo met the airport vet and we paid the fee. It was smooth and easy. From Lisbon to Madeira - he got on and off no check in with the vet. Maybe we had to show the paperwork from Lisbon ?- I can’t remember. We would also highly recommend HVM animal hospital in Funchal Madeira as a vet. Leo has all his check ups there, surgeries and they are amazing and very helpful and they speak English well. Best of luck to you and we hope you stick around and check out some of our Madeira videos. Cheers! M&D

    Perfect timing! We are going to be moving to Portugal in October’22 with our German Shepherd. These two videos are the most helpful on the subject, hands down! We are about to book our tickets but I’m curious if there’s any airline that flies really big dogs to Europe other than KLM. The rest (including TAP) have a weight limit of 99 lbs including the crate. The huge crate we have to buy weighs 40 lbs by itself!! Our dog weighs 102 pounds and is 39” high (from tip of ears to the ground).
    Unfortunately, our Cane Corso has to stay behind in the US with our daughter because there are NO airlines I can find that fly “snub-nosed” dogs!

    • @Track_Us_Down
      @Track_Us_Down 2 года назад +1

      That's great! Thanks for watching our videos 😀. And congrats on your upcoming move. That's a good question, we flew TAP Airlines and they had restrictions listed on their website, but I don't know how exactly, if at all, they "weigh & measure" unless it's completely obvious that the animal and crate is WAY oversized / overweight. Even for our Vizsla + crate combo we 'fudged the numbers' a little on their forms just to make sure we listed him as well-within TAP's listed height/size/weight combination. But no one ever looked at our crate, our dog, or measured or weighed anything. It's a tough call. If it were close, we'd certainly go for it, but if it's way over the measurements and weight, well, it would be a nightmare to be turned back. It sounds like in your case that may be the case as your dog/crate combo is quite large. It's too bad about your Cane Corso - that must be tough to have to leave a loved pet behind - at least he/she will be with family! Really hope this works out for you and you have a great flight - all the best to you! Doug & Monique.

Any more details on this matter will be greatly appreciate it. And again THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

    • @Track_Us_Down
      @Track_Us_Down 2 года назад +2

      You are very welcome! Hope it helps you plan your dog's travel! And we are very happy to answer your questions :) Because our flight overseas was a good 8 hours, plus the time our dog spent in crate pre/post flight loading/unloading, and the fact it was the second of three flights we would take, we opted to spend two days/nights in Lisbon before taking our third flight, over to Madeira. We would highly recommend this. We really wanted our dog to feel good, calm, and not throw TOO much at him! And it seemed to work beautifully - he seemed to be just fine, his regular self 🐶. As far as meeting a vet - no, it is just the one time, upon entry into Portugal (Lisbon for us) where you have to meet with a vet. When we arrived on Madeira after our third flight, we simply collected our dog just the same as our other luggage, and rolled right out of the airport as normal. For some reason, when checking in for our third flight in Lisbon to go to Madeira, the check-in counter lady did ask if we had his "paperwork" with us, although I'm not sure why. I think she was just a bit cranky. But we showed his pet passport and his Lisbon vet-stamped papers and once she saw that we had it, she didn't ask again or even really go through it. Feel free to ask anything else!
      All the best, D & M

    • @Track_Us_Down
      @Track_Us_Down 2 года назад +3

      Thank you very much 😀. Great question! They have nice, big, square van type taxies in Portugal lined up in front of airports, malls, etc. - as likely the same as many other places in Europe - and we were easily, easily, able to load up our 2 big suitcases, 2 small suitcases, 2 backpacks, guitar case, and massive dog crate in the back alone, with 2 rows of seating left for just the 2 of us and our dog. So you may just be fine in one, but certainly in two if you had to split up. There is also the option of researching and booking a private transfer, but not sure if that would be cheaper or not. Good luck to you! D & M

      Hello Gabriela! 🐶Yes we were told to inform the pilot ( flight attendant) that we had a dog in cargo to make sure the temperature was regulated. However, every time we did, they said they already knew and all was well. From our understanding it’s a comfortable temperature. Leo did not seem bothered by it (didn’t seem overly heated or freezing) after any of the flights. We know you’re nervous, we were too. Take it slowly and we highly recommend one flight at a time!! You put your pet on and take your pet off the flight. We wouldn’t recommend the airline transfer the pet. Leo came off every flight and we walked , spent the night and then took another flight. We gained confidence each time. Best of luck to you as you travel to Spain with your pet. Thank you for watching! Cheers! M&D

    If you are taking your dog to Australia it's minimum 6 months to go through the process and the dog needs to be in quarantine for one month when it gets to Australia. Very expensive process. Also better to take insurance in case flight delays and in transit delays occur. Don't try any DIY just use a specialized company. DIY actually stands for Damage It Yourself or Destroy It Yourself so whether you are doing house renovations or transporting dogs around the world leave it to the experts.

      @@Track_Us_Down The quarantine period used to be 6 months in the past. Mercifully they have reduced it to one month now. The reason as I found on the internet is as below.
      If an animal has been infected with the rabies virus, it takes the virus many days, weeks or months to reach the head and brain. During this time, the animal is NOT symptomatic, nor can it pass the rabies to another animal or human but we have no way of being certain that an animal is not carrying rabies. So the animal is placed under quarantine for at least 6 months. If it is healthy at the end of that time, the decision is made that the risk of rabies is extremely low.
      In contrast, once the symptoms begin, the animal (or human) will be dead within 10 days, and for those last few days, the parotid salivary glands contain the virus and a bite will pass the virus to other humans or animals.
      So you have two important periods:
      1. the interval from bite to start of symptoms and start of infectivity (up to 6 months and in rare cases longer than that), and
      2. the period between start of symptoms and infectivity and death (10 days or less)
      The countries enforcing such quarantine include Australia and the United Kingdom, both of which have had rabies-free status for a very long time.

Being comfy and safe in the crate will relieve some of the anxiety and you probably could use CBD. Our Leo was given Wecomfort CBD for dogs here when we was very ill. Check out our February cost of living video, as Leo spent weeks in the hospital. Please don’t worry at all about the language barrier. You will always find someone who speaks English and google translate always saves the day! It’s moving the dog crate that’s the biggest pain!! I am traveling with my dog from Vancouver- layover in Frankfurter of 3 hr - continuing to Croatia!

    Thank you again, so so much! 💓

    • @Track_Us_Down
      @Track_Us_Down 2 года назад +1

      You are welcome! Nice to see someone who found it helpful 😉. That sounds like a great upcoming trip. That's a great question and we certainly don't want to misspeak, so this is just our opinion: Firstly, wondering if you are collecting the dog during your layover, or is he/she just being transferred to the next plane without collection? I would think that is the main question, because if you are collecting him/her after that flight and then have to check him/her in again for the next, then there *may* be a vet check. But having said that, we don't know Germany's rules regarding imported pets, or pets transiting. Our very best suggestion would be to phone that airline, and also see if you can get ahold of the vet station in Frankfurt airport, to get as much info as possible ahead of time. Better than any serious surprises upon arrival! Also, just wondering - is that quite a long flight from Vancouver to Frankfurt? Asking because I imagine your pooch may need a washroom break after that flight? I'm sure you'll do what's best for you and your dog for your situation, but we know from our experience after flying from Toronto to Lisbon (about 8-9 hours in-crate for our dog in total) he was sure glad to get out, and then we had 2 nights booked at the Lisbon airport hotel so he could just relax, calm, etc., before our final hop over to Madeira. You might be able to consider making that 3 hr layover a 2 night one near the airport for some added peace of mind. Either way, I'm sure your boy/girl will arrive in Croatia in good health, and we wish you and your dog safe travels! Cheers! Doug & Monique.

      Hi Donovan! Glad you reached out. Dog travel abroad can be overwhelming. Thank you for the kind words regarding our video. Much appreciated. The USDA Portuguese / English form can be found on the USDA website. The website is hard to navigate. When you are on the site select Portugal. You’ll have to keep looking to find the heath certificate. Also some vets can access the online health certificate to send in electronically so it may save you time simply asking your vet, if they are accredited, if they can access the online health certificate for Portugal. The other information on the USDA is good to have as a checklist so that everything is in order. Best of luck to you, sorry we couldn’t be more help. Cheers! M&D

      We only used the spray. We considered going "all-out" with collar too, but thought that may be overkill. All went smoothly and he was just fine 😉👍. Good luck!! D & M

    Hi guys, thank you for making these couple of videos, super informative.
    One question, how did you find the details for the animal customs at the country of destination you were going to?
    I'm flying with my dog and cat to France and after many hours of searching, I'm still struggling to find the details of the animal customs there.
    Any tips much appreciated!

      Thanks for watching and for reaching out - glad you found some useful info! Try www.douane.gouv.fr/fiche/travel-coming-france-your-pet on the France side, as well as www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel/by-country/eu/pettravel-france on the American side. Good luck and please let us know if this helps a bit! Cheers, Doug & Monique.

      @@Track_Us_Down Just to update anyone who may be looking for information on arriving at Paris Charles De Gaulle with pets: there is no specific animal customs at the airport. You just walk through the normal customs, for us there were no paperwork checks or health checks upon arrival. I was able to find an email address for animal customs in France (florane.duporte@paris.gouv.fr) and they answered some of my queries before we flew.

      We totally understand! We were the same at first, but honestly with good planning like we've talked about, you will be fine. Knowing that we had followed all the steps and procedures totally put us at ease. We were very happy with how our dog managed the multiple flights. We would have no worries at all about flying with him now. First time is always the hardest - on the humans! Take care and all the best!

    Just a question … regarding dog food , our boy eats a raw diet .how are the locale pet stores . How did you locate your vet once we arrived in Madeira ?

    • @Track_Us_Down
      @Track_Us_Down 2 года назад +1

      The local pet stores are awesome, and plentiful, as are vets. VetMedis is the main one here in and around Funchal, and we easily found them all around Funchal. Plus the main vet hospital (watch our February Cost of Living for emergency vet hospital care) is AMAZING. Cheers! Doug & Monique
