  • A cranial vena caval stent was deployed in this dog, where a large heart base tumour (chemodectoma) was seen to compress the cranial vena cava. CT angiography showed a diameter of the cranial cava of only 2mm - this was causing oedema of the head and neck because it was not a sufficient vessel diameter to allow normal blood flow to return to the heart.
After stent placement, the vena caval diameter was increased to 8mm at the site of compression. and clinical signs should be alleviated by this minimally invasive procedure.
