Interesting that you find the key play. Do you see any difference in the build quality between the original 875 and the EX? I was taken aback by the difference in build quality between my 875 and a an 82Z but haven't compared directly with the newer EX.
I have owned and played many Yamahas my First pro horn was YAS-62IIs and it was great except I didn’t care for the G1 neck, later I had an 82ZII that played great, I had a 62 MK1 for a while. I now play a 2017 Selmer Ref 54 that is just amazing.
I have an 875 EX II alto and it's amazing. I am using solid silver necks (E-1 and V-1... if you are a classical player you will love the C-1 neck) with it and that makes it sound more amazing. Don't try the silver plated necks... they are too bright sounding... the solid silver necks add more warmth and depth and more dynamics. This new version II of this sax doesn't have the loud ball joints. It still has the ball joints, but Yamaha put some kind of cushion inside the ball joint to quieten it up nicely. I saw someone talk about this before... I don't remember the material that is used in the ball joint but it is suppose to be very reliable over the years. I've had this alto for about 2 years now and the ball joints still sound very quiet. I was lucky to get this alto for $800 off the price because the low notes were not set up correctly and the music store I purchased it from must have not had a repair tech.... so this sax obviously didn't sell with the low notes not working. It took me about five minutes to adjust the leaking low notes. Everything else was set up perfectly from the factory... very even venting and spring tensions. I have a Yamaha 875 tenor sax that I purchased in 1995. I am also using the solid silver necks on my tenor. If anyone that has a Yamaha sax is thinking about trying a new saxophone, I would strongly suggest you try out the Yamaha solid silver necks first... these necks transform the sound to another level. I have a P. Mauriat System 76, version 2 soprano that plays amazing. Better than my old Yamaha 62 soprano. The sound on the P. Mauriat soprano is more warm than most sopranos but not too warm. It's great for jazz gigs and for Dance Club gigs. I don't recommend the first version of the P. Mauriat System 76, because I read that the needle springs were either too weak or maybe they were set up too weak from the factory.
Thanks, Mark. Great feedback on the 875 and nice buy on yours. One of my friends has a yanagisawa 991 with a sterling silver neck and it makes a big difference.
Mine is 875ex with G1 neck. The issue I have is that the middle C# is way flat, I wonder if V1 neck would cure the issue, I read from some posts that it is. Any thought on this? Thanks
I play a Yamaha yas 62 purple logo. I have a late mark 6 and yani aw02, but I still think the purple logo is the best due to ergonomics. Yamaha definitely make a great horn. Keep the reviews coming :)
Thanks Mark! I love the YAS62 purple labels. I’m trying to buy one from a friend who’s son played it for only 2 years in high school, but at this point he’s doesn’t want to sell Thanks for watching! Scott
Hey Scott, Thanks for the new review video. With an overall score of 76, this horn should be near the top of the horns that you have reviewed to date. That is an Interesting observation regarding the excessive key play on this new, professional-level horn. Would you suggest swedging those affected keys at this early stage of the horn's life?
If was my saxophone I would. The F key play is a bigger deal because that key requires a little more precision than other keys. It operates the 1 in 1 Bb, the articulated G# and closes the F# key as well as having to get along with the second finger F# key. When there play like that it makes adjustments very difficult.
Yamahas are great had the 61/82zii would have kept them if the tone was less bright ..I’m rocking Martin and cannonball vintage not as well made but the sound is great
They’re fantastic playing saxophones, but the factory setup pans build quality is very poor. I’ll have a review on a 2022 limited edition coming up hopefully soon. Thanks for watching! Scott
@Scottsmusiccave I think the same: I've had the chance to play two supreme tenor and they both had a very poor setup, uneven spring tension. I wasn't impressed at all. Maybe the alto is better, I don't know.
I really like this format and I'm digging your new channel. Rock on!!!!!
Thanks for watching! I have so many fun videos coming. Scott

@@Scottsmusiccave Look forward to the review on it :)
Good idea. I’ll at least borrow it for a review.
Spectacular horn, wish I had the money to spend!
They are!

Tendrías que hacer lo mismo con un Selmer Mark VI !!! Quizás También con cualquier modelo de Selmer Paris.
Absolutely. New Selmers usually need a ton of work from the factory. A lot more than Yamahas.

Hello Scott. Have You come across a Grassi Professional 2000 Horn.
Not in a long time. The next time I get one in I’ll do a video on it.
What do you think about the Selmer Supreme?
They’re fantastic playing saxophones, but the factory setup pans build quality is very poor. I’ll have a review on a 2022 limited edition coming up hopefully soon.

Sorry for the late response, the altos are just as bad! Unfortunately.
