In 1988, the USSR was no longer a threat??? LOL This was clearly written by someone who didn’t live in those years. The last 3 years of the Soviet world were very chaotic and unpredictable.
Good point; a state as big and paranoid as Soviet Russia wouldn't crumble cleanly and the in-universe author would know that as well, but remember that she's trying to talk down someone from launching a retaliatory strike.
@@letkutin It's a story based on facts of history. If the author got something wrong due to poor research or too young to know, it breaks immersion. Saying "just a story" means nothing when there are good and bad stories.

Kid has never seen a computer in his entire life, but he can IMMEDIATELY figure out how to take it apart, put it back together, AND identify high-tech government surveillance devices?
So... some military/affiliated personel gets tasked to check out a military facility. And gets tasked to specifically check out that one computer there. And then just decides to NOT reporting to their superior, especially after just casually AND repeatedly chatting away with some mysterious entity on said machine?! And even the superior wasn't interested in checking either?!? 😅 I mean, from own experience, there can be odd people in the military, some certainly not the brightest. But... following orders and protocol is usually the one thing, we were all pretty good at (and paid for, lol) 😅 Anyways, great, entertaining story, fun to listen, love the scenario :-D
That was the actual nuclear arm code for many years. It was for the PALS device on gravity bombs, the Air Force didn’t want the devices at all but Congress made them, their solution was to just assign the simplest code possible effectively making the PALS device pointless.
