"Wiseass, smartass, workaholic. Thick skinned, 2 fisted hombre, ole." Fuck all that Alpha Male, Social Darwinist, macho, hardass bullshit and a society that would expect me to be that way. This song says everything I ever wanted to say to those people. Thank you Moz. Though I'm not veg, so he'd still probably hate me (sorry) lol
Glad so many people like/agree with my post. Just finished watching a documentary on Michael Jackson and I'm pretty sure, as someone that seems like a kindred spirit, he'd feel the same way. So many people in society just don't understand, but we can't all be wired the same...and that's a good thing, you know? Guess I'm what's called "empathic". Never been like the herd and don't want to be. "Different" is good (as long as its not hurting anyone). And I may not be veg, but don't get me wrong, I love animals and they can sense that about me. Anyway, yeah, every time I hear someone say something like "be a man" or "man up", I just want to punch someone in the face (and I'm like the least violent guy ever lol). Just sounds like empty words. Give me something real. Sorry for the rant, society just brings me down and pisses me off sometimes. But I'm usually not a downer - honest :-) Its just people make it hard sometimes. But at least we have Moz' music.
SilentLaughter8 what is the name of documentary , i would like to watch it. And yes I agree , thing is its totally useless and a waste of time. Instead of wasting time with nonsense like manhood and stuff I would like to read some stuff and create art etc. It's just not logical and besides if someone wants to man up themselves lol I am like " bitch just man up and stay silent. You have no right to bring anyone into your own nonsense drama"
keith lynch Um....ok? How so? Because I like to eat meat? I get how you might feel that way, but still...why so judgmental? At least I'm conflicted about it and admit as much. Just like the dude in that Warm Bodies movie lol Never said I was perfect. But that's why I respect people like Temple Grandin for inventing more "humane" ways for cattle to be processed. However, my brother is a vegetarian and has said the main reason is because of the way the animals are treated, which I can certainly respect. Its a decision each of us need to make for ourselves. Anyway, if you think about it, each human being is a series of seeming contradictions. Its what makes us human and gives us individual personalities, flaws, and quirks. And anyone who'd deny that, I'd have to wonder what they're hiding and why. Everyone's a little messed up, I think. Its the so-called "normal" ones we need to watch out for, I think :-) And if your post had nothing to do with eating meat, I apologize for all the "rambling" :-) Though I'm still curious what it would be about, as I'm trying to be brave and put myself out there to people, which isn't easy for me, so your post did come off a little judgmental.
+Mettemeres Thanks for your post - sorry I'm so late getting back to you. Hope you see this. Just read your post now...figured the posts would just be people hating on me as per usual. And as an avoidant personality and someone who's still very sensitive and impressionable, probably due to undiagnosed developmental disorders, probably due to childhood traumas (posted more about that elsewhere here just now), I don't have time for that shit. Life's too short to put bad thoughts and feelings into my head like that. So if people really have something to say to me they want me to read, they should PM me here like another Smiths fan recently did. But luckily I was only half right and your positive post more than counterbalanced the negative :-) The documentary was called Man in the Mirror: Michael Jackson Story. The documentary itself actually wasn't that great, but I do like how it portrayed Michael as a highly sensitive, empathic soul that I related to very much. One part I really liked was when his friend was like "Does Lisa Marie make you feel more like a man?" And Michael says: "No, she makes me feel like I only have to be myself." Something like that. And I was like "Yes! That's it!" Exactly how I feel. Just be yourself. Who cares how "manly" or whatever it is or what others think. And yeah, I totally get what you're saying. I think its especially ridiculous when females say things like "be a man", "man up", etc. Easy for them to say lol They don't have to do it themselves or know how much pressure it is. How would they feel if I told them "woman up"? lol There'd probably be riots in the streets! So yeah, a little empathy goes a long way - thanks again for your reply :-)
Another great song from his new album. "No big fat locker room Hockey jock" Wolf down T-bone steak Wolf down Cancer of the prostate Only morrissey could write such lyrics
This record brings me to the edge of tears. A great example of says what many people have felt deeply (including myself) since the year dot. Great to sing loudly in the car.
I remember my father showing me underneath a body of a car and feeling nothing but desperate boredom and surrounded by those fake brutal images of what a male was supposed to be then I read danced and wrote and realised one can die for football and the arts and beauty and crave for higher things.. and yes I’m still a man listen and love

This is an excellent album, but i believe this song to be incredible.....gut-wrenching and chilling lyrics, sung with power and passion. One of his very best - one of the many reasons why he is a God..
Maybe, but that one only passes as a poem you write overnight for high school homework, with barely a drop of imagination or even experience. Worlds apart from this song. Whole epochs of experience behind it

(therealMURDEROTIC writing from this account) Evan M, I could not reply to your comment. But he is not singing of what makes a man. He's saying that these are not things that decide if you are a man or not. He's singing "Well if these are terms you'd use to describe...".
The tune is good, but the lyrics are trite. I say that as someone who has sympathy with the general sentiment. Regarding not destroying the planet he's on, I wonder what the carbon footprint of his endless touring is. You can't just hold a hand to your heart and say, "I'm innocent" because you want to be.

Morrissey, 1984: I'm not the man you think I am.
Morrissey, 2014: I'm not a man.

Well, people with an interest in anime do have a reputation for not being into some music but still being able to appreciate some words.

I kind of had a little breakthrough:
Hating anime and having an anime profile picture is a silly, silly idea!
The Death Note name mightn't help.

Understand your sentiment, but working on a car, or, let's say, cooking in a kitchen, are very useful to anyone who....eats, or drives a car.
He's done it again, brilliance!
This for me could be my favourite Morrisey album, definitely creeping up there

Don Juan
Picaresca
Concesión del maltradador.
Mano glacial
Hombre frío
Troglodita beligerante
Si todo esto es una definición
Entonces yo no soy un hombre
Chanchullero, negociante
Dinámico, agitador
Casanova
Beefaroni
Gracias (:
