Another great vid, I love that you're speaking about the ethical side of kit production as well as the environmental. Like you say a lot of it just makes sense but there are lots of brands that skirt around it. It's also great to hear you champion wide boards for big feet, there's nothing worse than heel and toe drag. I'd have been looking into the Amplid boards but recently picked up a Korua Otto. Happy turns to you and Indy!
I was always a fan of 18, -15 angles... i was switch probably at least half the time, the cab nollie 5 was hands down my favorite trick and toward the end of my snowboarding i was hiking more than sitting on a lift. Gear was a t shirt 4square puffy and whatevrr pair of snow pants werent still soaked. Dc gave me boots for a while til i decided saftey meetings in the trees and hiking to drop some gnarly cliff lines was way more fun than id ever have in a park and switched over to 32 cause they were the dryest and warmest things my feet had ever been in... that said, I havent been snowboarding (real snowboarding) in like 9 years though every winter the youtube algorythms still post up tons of snow videos... it almost makes me cry to not be able to put in 150+ days a year anymore. Im hoping the summerboard can scratch the itch for me but who knows.... anyway thats my ramblings keep livin the good life bud. Hi Stephen, thank you, and I appreciate the donation, very kind of you 🙌 I've been pretty busy teaching over the holidays the last 2 weeks but I'm back filming this afternoon so there should be a new video this weekend 👍
As I'm recovering from a concussion from crashing on my snowboard 7 days ago, I'm watching your vids, looking forward to getting back onto the slopes asap, with your advice in mind. :)
As there are many cheap gear options online, I would like to point out that quality gears make things life a lot easier/safer whether they are boots, bindings, goggles, mitts, helmets, or jackets/pants. I understand that quality gears cost some $$$, and I find myself looking at some cheaper options as well, but let me share my experience with a cheap gear and seen what cheap gears could do to you when you are on the mountain. Few years ago, I bought a cheap goggle, and boy, I couldn't really make out the terrain of the slopes when under clouds or bad lightings. A few times, I remember I was feeling as if I was in a void. Everything looked flat and I couldn't make out the terrain. I was just waiting to get wiped out. That was just stressful way to snowboard. Cheap bindings. If your bindings don't want to work while on the mountain, you are going to have a bad day. Now, imagine temp is -20 and you have to take your gloves off to fix your bindings, you are going to curse like a sailor. A friend of mine had this issue, and every now and then he was battling with his bindings. Cheap boots. Uncomfortable boots will make you want to quit snowboarding like no others. Now, whenever I purchase new gears, I remind myself that I will be using them for many years. I then divide the costs to the number of years I would potentially use and, the numbers then don't seem too bad. That's the way I try to think whenever I make a major purchase. I think my board is about 20 years. 🤔
Hi Malcolm. I'm in Alpe d'Huez for a few days. I saw you today giving some lessons to two people. I recognised you from the Iconic outfit:) I didn't say hello as you were working. I've just changed the angles on the Salomon Dancehaul to your angles, so let's see. My girlfriend was teasing me when I was all awe struck : Me: "There's Malcolm Moore" GF : "Go and say hello" Me : "Nah, he's working" GF : "You too shy to say hello"... Anyway, great content again. So glad why you explained why the snow is like concrete. I gave myself a few good whacks today when the board flew out from under me on the heel side. Dan.
Also, you missed out base layers! It took me years to realise people didn’t wear like actual pants under their gear because honestly nobody said anything and I didn’t think to ask. I have had a steep learning curve for everything snow related as I grew up and live on a sub-tropical island, so I used to wear comfy pants that were roomy on top of my base layer but it was just too many layers. Would love to know your recommendations!
Can you do a tutorial of how to ride in poor conditions (fog/cloud/rain)? I really struggled on day 1 away this yr as it was so difficult to see what the surface was like. Despite low light lenses, it helped most to take goggles off. But still kept falling a lot. Killed my confidence.
I bought a Volcom jacket this past season and was very disappointed that it didn’t have wrist gators. I’ll be looking at other brands for next season ❤
yay for goggles under the helmet! I'm in the minority doing the same amongst my friends, but I prefer the fit and being able to remove just my helmet while I'm not boarding.
Awesome video Malcolm, and also, what a dreamy location to be! It just makes you want to make you snowboard even more! Btw with such a growing community, a discord might also be a good idea for the community to connect and share ideas and knowledge :)
No outdoor mask rules in most of Colorado, but some people have asked me to wear it on the lift with them (I'm usually in the singles line), which is no issue. Most indoor dining require both mask/vaccination on entry. Still would wear the buff most of the time anyway as my nose gets cold 🥶
Love your videos. Thanks for sharing your setup with us. One more thing I'd like to know: What is your highback angle and do you have any recommendations what it should be for an intermediate level rider with an all-mountain board mostly riding on piste and in powder? Or is it personal preference? I finally bought my first board (Jones Frontier 158W also with Cartel Bindings, it's basically the successor of the Explorer) and I'm looking to improve my overall turning technique on and off the piste and I rarely go to the park.
I don't like too much forward lean I have them currently set to 2 out of 5. But yeah it's just personal preference, I know some people swear by it 🤷♂️
haha, you've gotta love that good boy! I had to skate and push over that section until I've learned about le petite sure - your way is more stylish though, keep it up :D
Yay I was looking for your stance and gear stuff.. (maybe u should put a section on your website ;)) but can you please detail more info? Do u use and forward lead? Size of boots Vs bindings? Looking for my second board from a Burton flying-V from maybe 4 yes ago now... ICS channel board, I'm looking to progress would u recommend to ditch or is it personal preference... you should do a how to center the bindings as such and other tips like that. Cheers love your work
Great content as always. What's your opinion on the Mondo size system for boot fitting? Do you believe it is important to buy your Mondo size boots although they would probably feel much smaller at the beginning?
Hey man, your stuff is awesome! I have learned alot from you! What camera are you using for this video and what are your settings? Also, any post editing and what software/filters do you use?
This is actually with the gopro 10, but I use the insta360 ones too. Then Adobe Premier Pro, I've made a lut to slap on my videos that mostly does the job but sometimes I colour grade a bit too. Then I also use an external mic for better audio as all action cameras are rubbish!
Nice! In most of your other videos I see you wearing Salomon goggles, when do you decide to take out the Sungods? And do you recommend the green lens for all-around weather conditions? If I were to bring only 1 lens, would that be a good choice?
Sorry if you answered this but what length is the board and do you choose board length based on your height? Also which breed of dog is Indy? Looks like a collie mix? What an awesome dog
Board is 154, its a volume shifted board, this is the process of how I chose it: ruclips.net/video/BJXKj2ZT_aw/видео.html And indy is a collie golden retriever mix!
HI @Malcolm Moore. Thanks for the good content. I always use the Burton Cartel bindings myself. And I am now going back to a 4x4 pattern from EST. Since you are a long time Cartel Re:Flex user, have you ever experienced that the "sharp" corners at the back make dents or cracks in any deck? I am not sure if I should worry when buying those bindings, I like them a lot, an issue like that may be anecdotical and mostly cosmestic. I did not experience it on my last 4x4 board except some marks. However, maybe there are other pretty good options for high quality bindings.
I never experienced any of those problems. I'm actually riding nidecler bindings at the moment, just because I'm testing out their new step in bindings. They work really well and I'll have a review out soon. The only thing with the cartel re flex that I found is you want to make sure you can properly centre your foot on the board as they're not the most adjustable bindings.
Yeah, yuki actually provide a bag to wash your stuff in that capture the micro fabrics too. But to be honest my jacket and ski pants won't ever go in the washer anyway. I always wear underlayers that I can wash instead 👍
Seems like you gravitate towards volume shifted boards. Is that because of your feet size? Or your preferred riding style? I'm a big foot as well (13 US) and I feel your pain regarding toe/heel drag.
I noticed that your board was very short... it was making me confused like "why is an experienced snowboarder using such a small board?". Now i understand. Thanks for the tip.
I wear glasses underneath goggle and glasses tend to fog up while goggle stays clear. Two things cause foggy glasses. My breath going up into goggle and my body overheating. I make sure goggle and face mask are fitted properly so my breath won’t go into the goggle whenever I breathe. I try not to overheat my body while riding. Kind of difficult to do, but if I start sweating, merely having glasses on without breathing will still cause fogginess. You might need a new goggle and I might need contact lenses.
2 out of 5, I don't like to go too aggressive, it can be a hinderence in poor snow conditions when you don't want too much edge angle. Same front and back 👍
Nice! I fell in love with 18/-12 last season and its pretty awesome. Although it doesn't feel nearly as good in switch as 15/-15 or 15/-12. What do you recommend for finding the perfect width on your bindings?
@@malcolmmoore Hi Malcom, Except nobody really knows what works for themselves do they? Of course not. How could anyone know? It’s all a random, guessing, free for all. I know what works for other people bc I taught actual in person humans for so long. Please understand that there is a massive difference in experience and knowledge gained when working with actual people for decades rather than just talking to a camera. Have you considered filming an actual lesson with a beginner? That would be great to see.
Is it better to wait until you're good at switch before adjusting to the more dedicated stance? Would doing this early on make learning switch noticeably more difficult?
Nothing under the helmet apart from my buff that wraps around the back of my head. Any ski socks I can get my hands on, and then just some leggings and long sleeve tee shirts and maybe a jumper if it's cold. It doesn't get that cold here in the Alps.
Best dog ever and always great info MM. It's just now starting to click for me, the turns and rhythm is getting there. I should probably wax my board but I don't want to go any faster. Am I going to damage my board by not waxing it? It's two years old if that matters.
You should get it waxed every ~4-7 days is the typical recommendation . Not only will you go faster, but it will make the board more maneuverable and easier to turn.
Great videos... came across your channel recently as I've not boarded for 5 years (kids and Covid) and want to refresh my brain and bin bad habits (never had lessons, just taught by my bro) and you've helped loads, so thanks!!! One question, I am running a Burton Custom 158 from 2003 (my first board from new as I started in to board in 2000) It's not been used loads (marriage, kids etc) so is in great condition. Do you think it'll still cut it on the slopes, albeit after a service? Cheers
Would you be able to measure your boot overhang? Everyone talks about how it's bad but unless you are riding a 290mm waist width board you most likely have a measurable amount. Seeing how well you can lay over the carves a hard number of "this is acceptable" would be awesome. Maybe. Even. A. Video. I think knapton is the only one i have seen dive that deep but he only talks about his custom 300mm+ WW and how it must be 0 overhang or bust, which isn't reality for 99% of people out there.
My favourite boots were the Northwave Legends. Had 2 pairs that lasted me about 8 years (this is impressive considering what they went through) but sadly Northwave stopped making them and they were one of the few Northwave boots I could afford :( Also, I wonder if it's something to do with our training (I'm assuming you're BASI) by my stance is exactly the same, +18/-12
I instruct, that's where I make most my money, youtube helps and generates a small income, but it's incredibly unreliable! It mainly serves as an advertising tool for me to sell lessons. In the summer I work in a bike shop 👍
@@malcolmmoore ohhh okay! Well i love your videos and i hope you're able to keep making them! I picked up the snowboard today for teh first time, and your content is incredibly helpful! cheers from spain :)
Malcolm, what is your stance width for your height? I appreciate all the useful knowledge along with the personal touches for you when it comes to snowboarding.
I change it around to be honest, and I haven't ever measured it, if it feels right go for it! Right now I'm doing a slightly wider stance, simply because I was watching Shaun White in the half-pipe rocking a mega wide stance so I thought I would try it out!
@@malcolmmoore thanks Malcolm. I feel ya. I was asking simply because on my heel side turns I bring the board around to much with my back foot. I thought maybe it was my slightly shifted stance to the tail. I like the wider stance - around 22.5 @ 5’9” - just may have to work harder getting over the the knees when I make turns, no?
@@IconicMedias I know exactly why that happens but I’m not giving away my secret discoveries here lest I get harassed and called a troll for knowing something a RUclipsr doesn’t.
Hey Malcolm, I believe Dada is the Amplid equivalent to the Twinpig, at least pretty close. Could you compare the two if you ever get your hands on a twinpig?
I would say it is more like the warpig, similar stiffness and not true twin, this is how I came to pick the dada if you haven't seen it! ruclips.net/video/BJXKj2ZT_aw/видео.html
Hey Malcolm great vid love the banana I was going to move on to a donek board next season but now I’m going to check out your board. Still having a little reservation about leaving RIDE tho what’s your opinion on my choices of boards I value your input. Thanks brother for another great video and eat your bananas everyone it’s a must
I've been looking at the donek stuff too, whilst I think they might be great for carving I just don't know how they'll perform over the rest of the mountain. I'm a big fan of this amplid board, it is pretty similar to the warpig though to be fair. If you don't need to go super wide then you've obviously got more choice, and the wider boards don't necessarily have the beat edge hold on ice. I've been back on the salomon dancehaul this week which is pretty fun, and alot softer than I remember!
Really enjoy your content Malcolm! Two questions base on the video, first, when you buy a new pair of shoes do you use your old liners or you use the new ones, I heard a lot of pro riders do that they get a new pair of boots and they throw away the new liners and put the old ones into the new boots. Second question, I always change my stance angle due to the condition and what type of style I am riding, so my bindings always lose after couple runs,. Have that ever happened to you before? If so do you use loctite to stable the bindings?
Always use the new liners, by the time I'm getting new boots my old ones stink haha! I mostly keep my stance angles as they are to be honest, but I do switch my bindings across various boards, I've never used loctite to keep them in place, but yeah sometimes you'll just need to tighten them up after a run or two 👍
Take some plumbers PTE tape, small amount, about an inch, and wrap it around the thread of the binding bolt. It stops the bolts loosening through vibration and does not do any harm to the board or bolts (which can happen with the wrong type of loctite).
Ya I love it I’m sure that was definitely directed at me thanks I was waiting to see how long the banana thing would take for u to do something love it
@@jimmybushkill5295 If you saw the crumbled state of my Snickers bars after 1/2d on the slopes you would NOT want to be eating a banana that had gone through the same munging!
Thanks for sharing mate! I'm planning a trip to Alps next month, about 5th March for two weeks. And I'm kind of stuck in choosing where to go. I've been to megave pre-covid but right now I'm looking at either La Plagne Or Val Thorele. I would love to get as much off piste as possible. Where would you recommend? Thanks in advance!
Hi! Your videos are super helpful, thanks! It will be my third snowboarding season this year and am really enjoying it. I was wondering what stance/angle would be best for me? I’m a goofy and not riding switch at all. I’m sometimes struggling with my heel to toe turns. My bindings are at +18 (front) and +3 (back) right now. Would you recommend a different angle that could make the heel to toe turn easier, or does it not really make that much difference? Thanks!
Malcom says it makes no difference and he’s absolutely incorrect. Imho I find it to be very irresponsible to say it doesn’t matter. Binding position makes a huge difference. Ride duck. Start with +12, - 9. If you have toe drag get a wider board. Most RUclipsrs only know what works for them. I know what works for other people no matter how much the male youtubers harass me. I still know more than they do.
Finally! Malcolm what is your height and what is your stance width? Does the rule that stance width should be equal to the length from the middle of the knee to the floor works for you (barefoot or wearing boot)?
I'm 186cm, 6"1, and I change my state width about a bit. But usually it's about the length of my elbow to fingers! Usually I'm on the reference stance for a board, but sometimes a little wider!
Your method will cause you to be too narrow. Always measure with boots on from floor to top of the knee at least. Also do a deep squat and measure from the middle to middle of your feet. The two measurements should be close to the same. I must say I’m very disappointed in Malcom’s response to your question so I hope I get credit where credit is due if he steals my answer in the future.
Malcolm. Question for you. I'm 5'8" tall with a 30" inside leg. Stances angles I'm OK with, however, it's the distance between each binding/feet that is concerning me. Should the distance be comfortable when strapped up in the binding, with no straining of ankle ligaments, etc... is too little distance not good, especially for turning?
Being comfortable is your main thing. The wider you go the more of a stable platform you have but the less agile you can be. I change mine around quite alit and have never actually measured it. If you're on a board the right size with you I would start with the reference stance and then go from there!
Any thought on double positive stance angles? I've started riding double positive (+12/+6) stance angles this season as I don't ride much switch at all. Carves feel stronger especially on toe side. Still tweaking and figuring out what works best for different types of riding for me (fast carving vs powder surfing etc).
@@malcolmmoore Sure thing, a vid would be neat. I've learned tons watching your stuff and would be eager to hear what you have to say. Thanks for replying!
Maybe a random question but I’m going to Val thorens (The Alpes) in the end of march to snowboard. Do you have any tips on what to think about when being there as a snowboarder when it comes to the slopes? I dont know if you have been there but if you have could you plz tell me some tips
I don't know VT super well, get yourself a piste map and stay within your ability level ✌ I'm sure there's loads of great pistes! Check out my friends at WOK SKI on the slopes too 🤩
I have the same stance angle (+12 and -12) on both feet, I tried keeping the same angle difference (24) but moving more towards facing forward (+15 and -9) but my ankle hurt so bad that I had to go back to my usual stance after 2 runs. So two questions, first would the pain go away after a while and second, is there a benefit of facing forward?
I can't say for the pain, and the benefits of facing forward can be described in this video: ruclips.net/video/eKmHng_lh74/видео.html I prefer facing slightly forward but you don't need to.
The pain means that’s a bad stance. Considering how you rode and what you say worked before without pain, you should go to +15,-12 or better yet +12,-9 for you. Generally speaking most people give binding advice on what works for themselves so it’s often incorrect or bad advice for other people. Imho youtubers need to stop advising people where to set their binding. Only a teacher who worked with actual students for decades really knows what works.
Hi malcom, really love your videos!!! I set +18/-12 as you did, but is it good for beginners like me(just got how to change edge)? I felt a bit hard to keep a balance of two foots when do a simple heel side slip after changing to +18/-12 because my right foot seems to push more than left one(I am a regular rider)
It should be fine, however feel free to play around with those angles for sure, ultimately there's not a huge difference between 12, 15, and 18, so you should be able to ride in any configuration, it's just about getting what's comfortable for you!
No that set up is not good for most riders bc your feet are likely pointed out too far away from each other. Oh yes there is a big difference and no you will not be able to ride well at any configuration.
Are the Sungod Vanguards suitable for people with a large wide face? Since they have a no-return policy I'm a bit hesitant to order since most glasses/goggles/hats are too small for my head.
They're pretty similar size to most other ski goggles, so I've you've ever tried on brands like Oakley, dragon, electric, spy, then they're going to fit pretty similarly!
@@malcolmmoore Thanks. I had an Oakley Flight Deck XL, hope the Vanguard is as big as that. It's a little bit annoying that some brands post the framewidt and some the lense widht (which is of course curved) so than its hard to compare.
Just wondering. I ride +18 and -12 as well. But for an all mountain freestyle setup would you say it’s ok to have the front binding set in the reference points and then the back binding set back 1 set of holes? Or should I just ride both at the reference points?
I like to try and keep my feet equal, so either on the reference stance, or if you push out at one end, push out at the other end too. This keeps you properly centered on the sidecut. But to be honest I'm sure it still works fine, lots of people always used to shove their bindings right back on a powder day for a bigger nose. It won't be the best thing for riding switch, but if you're not too fussed about that I can't see it really affecting all that much.
Hey man, question about volume shifted boards. Do you find at all that you miss the effective edge length for carving and stuff, or is it not all that noticeable?
Yeah it's just a bit of a different feeling. I went to them for the added waist width as the main benefit to stop me booting out. It depends what kind of normal boards you ride. So many boards these days have an element of rocker in the tip and tail that don't feel too dissimilar to volume shifted boards, but if you're used to a proper full camber board then for a sure a volume shifted board will have a very different feel.
@@malcolmmoore Cool, thanks. I've been looking at boards that are on the wider size, but not true "wide". I got a properly fitted boot now (down a full size to 10 US) so it may not be as much of an issue now.
Thanks, very cool video. It's always nice to hear and see what the people you are looking up to use or do and why they do it and then use that or modify according to what suits each of us best. I don't really like the color of the outfit, but that's just because I don't like brown clothing, nothing to do with the outfit itself :)) I tried going with a wide stance once, but it kinda' tired me out, so I ride pretty much +15 front, +5 back and it's comfy :D I just got a new board myself and new bindings and can't wait to test them, Hope with the new board I've solved my toe drag problem, because I also have pretty large feet :D always love your videos and really love your calm and the way you explain everything!!
Thanks for this Malcolm! I've been wondering about your stance angles lol. Couple of other questions though - what is your stance width? And do you ride with a set back or twin? If set back, about how much? (And thanks for the content! Between watching you and Ryan Knapton, I spend way too much time on RUclips haha.)
Thanks Danny, I change my stance width up quite a bit to be honest. I don't set back and I usually just start with the reference angles and see how that feels! I used to ride a much wider stance but that was mostly to push my feet out to the wider parts of the board, but now with volume shifted boards it's not such an issue!
Not alot, tee shirts and jumpers, so not very technical, that stuff gets expensive! It's nkt that cold in the Alps but when I used to work in Canada merino was pretty handy!
This video is a couple of years old! I keep meaning to do a gear review for this seasons stuff but I haven't got round to it yet...but yes still rocking the supermatics 🙌🏼
I got sent them for free yes, but I'm not under any contract or anything. I do prefer them to the Burton step ins, however to be fair, I have only tried the step ins once and it was 2 years ago now. I do also use some normal bindings too, but usually when I film I'm on the supermatics because it just makes faffing around with all my camera equipment easier if I'm not also getting in and out of the step ins.
I’m still starting out and I have done 8 and 8. The last time I rented a board the guy put the angles at 15 and 15 and I felt like a duck! Not sure how anyone feels comfortable riding like that, but I do know that my inner thighs are not as strong as I’d like them to be yet and maybe that played a part. I just felt super awkward riding like that and I felt I had no control at all.
@@malcolmmoore just something to look out for if you are choosing a brand that says they are making outcompletely out of recycled materials, brands know people are trying to be green and support recycling.
Used quality stuff is better than new cheaply made. But boots/helmet/goggles should be always new and from quality.
Dan.
Hey Dan, say hello next time, if you see me tomorrow I'm not teaching either!
Awwww his Harness matches Malcom’s board
Thanks for the info, Malcolm! Love your content!
My pleasure!
I bought a Volcom jacket this past season and was very disappointed that it didn’t have wrist gators. I’ll be looking at other brands for next season ❤
The fact that ur Boarding AND no one is around. Makes me a very very VERY jealous man .. jeez.. Love the Accent❤️
yay for goggles under the helmet!
A must for me, I think your jacket has it too, lift pass pocket in your sleeve 👍
I like the idea of a wrist gaiter, however, I found they are usually too tight and irritate the finger joint.
Probably one of the most informative videos about snowboarding kit, and a dog 😃 Although, more dog please...
But yeah it's just personal preference, I know some people swear by it 🤷♂️
I’ve also got the Vanguards and can say they’re defo amazing
Hey! Great video as usuall! Have you got any suggestion on edge and base bevel angles? Tnx
I'm lazy with this, sorry, I work in a ski shop once a week so I can just give my boards to the ski tech there!
haha, you've gotta love that good boy!
Yeahhh sick, i'm waiting for this vidéo for longtime 😁💪, thanks
Hey man, your stuff is awesome! I have learned alot from you! What camera are you using for this video and what are your settings? Also, any post editing and what software/filters do you use?
This is actually with the gopro 10, but I use the insta360 ones too. Then Adobe Premier Pro, I've made a lut to slap on my videos that mostly does the job but sometimes I colour grade a bit too. Then I also use an external mic for better audio as all action cameras are rubbish!
POC helmets are super good. Very good ventilation, concerning the goggles.
Not to fan out too much? But an Indy video is a great day. Oh, and Malcolm is there too. :P
😄
You mentioned +15 and -12. Which one is the dominant leg? The first number?
Board is 154, its a volume shifted board, this is the process of how I chose it: ruclips.net/video/BJXKj2ZT_aw/видео.html
And indy is a collie golden retriever mix!
@@malcolmmoore True, the Cartels have less options for centring. Ah, excited about the Nidecker bindings. Are you reviewing some of their boards too?
the number one source of micro plastics in water is dryer lint so i would try to avoid synthetic clothes just a heads up malcolm!!
they go off straight into the water thru the washing machine too tho so it’s not just the dryer
Yeah, yuki actually provide a bag to wash your stuff in that capture the micro fabrics too. But to be honest my jacket and ski pants won't ever go in the washer anyway. I always wear underlayers that I can wash instead 👍
When was this recorded? I live in Alpe d'Huez and you'll agree we seriously need some fresh pow.
See you around buddy!
This was filmed end of December!
You and Ryan Are the best on RUclips !!!
He is a boss man 🙌
Seems like you gravitate towards volume shifted boards. Is that because of your feet size? Or your preferred riding style? I'm a big foot as well (13 US) and I feel your pain regarding toe/heel drag.
I noticed that your board was very short... it was making me confused like "why is an experienced snowboarder using such a small board?". Now i understand.
Thanks for the tip.
ruclips.net/video/BJXKj2ZT_aw/видео.html this is how I came to pick it!
You mentioned it for helmets but it's also important to buy reputable goggles. Those cheap goggles you can buy online are cheap for a reason.
True true!
Hey Mate! Do you get foggy sunglasses ? They are killing me, dunno what to do...
Nah, they stay clear, if I put them on my forehead and did something like hike a box on a hot day they might fog up a bit, but otherwise nope!
Hey Malcolm, curious how you came across your Sun God googles since they don't seem like one of the large brands out there
Hi Malcolm, very interesting thank you!! How much forward lean do you use on your bindings, and is it same back and front? Thanks again!
Chop and change, see what works for you!
I think you forgot your base layer and insulation layer. Also socks. And anything under the helmet?
@@kevinabernardo okay Kev, if you say so. I really don't want to go faster but I guess you just get used to the new speed. Thank you sir.
I probably wax every couple of weeks I'm a bit lazy with doing it, but it does actually make life easier, not just faster!
Cheers
Me too, if you’ve looked after it, all good.
Dam it! I just bought new outerwear yesterday. This Yuki Threads stuff looks way better. that's some bad timing unfortunately
😬 next time!
Had 2 pairs that lasted me about 8 years (this is impressive considering what they went through) but sadly Northwave stopped making them and they were one of the few Northwave boots I could afford :(
Also, I wonder if it's something to do with our training (I'm assuming you're BASI) by my stance is exactly the same, +18/-12
i'm curious what you do for a living. Is it just youtube? What did you do before youtube? Do you work at the resort?
I use a twin pig it’s a true twin if your not going to ride switch a lot u are better off with a war pig
Where is this filmed? Cause I feel like I have seen you here in Alpe D'Huez :)
That's where I live, so probably yes!
I have a question, do you change your back angle on your bindings at all?
Ya I hear ya hate to keep bothering u tho I done some research on the capita mega mercury any knowledge on that board
@@jimmybushkill5295 havent ridden it but it looks good! Works for longo, horgmo, and backstrom!
Where do you store your Snickers bars?
In your pockets 😉
Replace your snickers with bananas
@@jimmybushkill5295 have you not seen the thumbnail? 😉🍌
Haven't actually ridden either, sorry!
What size boots do you wear? I feel like I never heard you say it in the video.
US12
That Yuki Threads Outerwear looks amazing, unfortunately they only have stuff until size XL which doesnt help if you are 2m tall like me :D
Ah bummer!
@@malcolmmoore Could you please clarify stance width in cm?)
@@sergeyp6465 sorry man, I don't have a tape measure and I just go with what feels right!
Your method will cause you to be too narrow. Always measure with boots on from floor to top of the knee at least. Also do a deep squat and measure
from the middle to middle of your feet.
Hey Malcolm, I thought you would cover it, but you didn't - what brand of sunscreen do you use? ;P
Baz Luhrmanns own brand 👌
Any thought on double positive stance angles? I've started riding double positive (+12/+6) stance angles this season as I don't ride much switch at all. Carves feel stronger especially on toe side. Still tweaking and figuring out what works best for different types of riding for me (fast carving vs powder surfing etc).
I've actually never done it but I'm definitely gonna play about with it soon, I'll probably make a video on it!
@@malcolmmoore Sure thing, a vid would be neat. I've learned tons watching your stuff and would be eager to hear what you have to say. Thanks for replying!
@@malcolmmooredid you ever end up testing it out? I’m really curious because I was thinking about trying it out because I don’t ride switch.
Maybe a random question but I’m going to Val thorens (The Alpes) in the end of march to snowboard. Do you have any tips on what to think about when being there as a snowboarder when it comes to the slopes? I dont know if you have been there but if you have could you plz tell me some tips

I can't say for the pain, and the benefits of facing forward can be described in this video:
ruclips.net/video/eKmHng_lh74/видео.html
I prefer facing slightly forward but you don't need to.
@@malcolmmoore Thanks Malcolm. I'll definitely watch it
The pain means that’s a bad stance.
Love the vid. btw your goggles are the cylindrical not spherical.
Haha yep, that's what I meant! 🤦♂️
Thanks for the video! Do you use any apps to track your runs?
A suunto GPS watch and then the free Garmin Virb Edit software 👌
@@malcolmmoore Nice one!
Ah yeah, US10 should still allow you onto most boards 👍
Thanks vlad! Good luck with your new set up!
Do you have any mitt recommendations? I just have an old leather pair that gets soaked
Unless you get goretex most gloves aren't super waterproof. But if you're not touching the snow it's not really an issue!
cool video. what do you do for the inner technical layers?
Not alot, tee shirts and jumpers, so not very technical, that stuff gets expensive! It's nkt that cold in the Alps but when I used to work in Canada merino was pretty handy!
What are your thoughts on step on bindings?
They work, I'm keeping an eye on these new nidecker ones though too, should be out next season but they look interesting...
Hi Malcolm, about yuki threads what size you have? L or XL, cheers
I wear L on the bottom and XL on top ✌
Hi Malcolm, do you prefer the slightly larger sizing for the top as your jacket seems quite long.

Not sure how anyone feels comfortable riding like that, but I do know that my inner thighs are not as strong as I’d like them to be yet and maybe that played a part. yuki threads has a women's category but no men's category. Only gender neutral.... Is this a joke
Open the developer console and change "gender neutral" to "men's" and there you have it.
Alot of these brands are greenwashing.
Is that aimed specifically at Yuki? Or are you just making a blanket statement?
@@malcolmmoore just something to look out for if you are choosing a brand that says they are making outcompletely out of recycled materials, brands know people are trying to be green and support recycling. Id support oyuki just because its a snowboarder owned brand by itself. Never owned anything from them because im cheap and live in cali and dint really need it.
@@32srt32 yeah I did look into them, they're actually pretty honest and know that they can't be completely neutral but they're trying to push it in the right direction as much as possible.
