Mandatory and continuous fitness tests for the Gardaí are required. Not to be hurtful but she could not pursue anyone on foot even without the additional kit that's worn.
Does no police force in the world have mandatory physical fitness requirements with annual tests/re-training? I could genuinely get away from them at jogging pace. Even sadder is they only carry pepper spray. Don't even have a taser, so if I'm running their chance of catching me are 0.
The gardaí all have to pass an annual fitness and physical competency test, and 90% of them I see keep themselves fit but I do often wonder about the few that look like they regularly fail those tests. I their defence, they are just the roads policing unit, they basically spend their day parked on the side of the road checking speed or inspecting cars, they wouldn't really respond to foot chases or crime in towns and cities.
Tried to question some issues with this recording but it was redacted before I could post... Some questions that occurred to me while watching. Were both garda drugs and alcohol tested before they started duty? If the law is to be applied equally to all citizens why is the road traffic act ignored in regard to scramblers? If infractions of the road traffic act of one kind are ignored surely all other charges under the act are unsafe? Just saying.
Your questions are bit random. No more than drug testing someone going to work in a post office or bank. It would be completely over the top. Scramblers are illegal, but parents continue to but them. If guards started to chase young lads on scramblers there would be needless fatalities.
@@briankelly8297 My comment about the garda being drug tested is very valid, do bank or post office workers have powers of arrest or have they access to policing intelligence? As I'm sure you are aware Ireland has a lot of crime gangs and as garda are people too they could be targeted by gangs if they develop a drug habit? As to garda ignoring sections of the road traffic act simply put if one law is overlooked then the law is not equal and is therefore open to challenge under our constitution .
@@kracked4462 Gardai are also ordinary people who are entitled to the same protections under law as the rest of us, including not being unreasonably searched or seized. The Guards need to have a reason to test you for drink or drugs (e.g. they have reasonable suspicion based on your actions, odors smelled around you, etc). Similarly, it would be a violation of rights of Gardai to randomly test them for drugs without reasonable suspicion unless they agreed to such tests in their contract. Like you said, the law must be applied equally to all, and the same protections under law that we have, the gardai have.

Two comments: 1.. She’s not wearing epaulettes which are mandated by Garda policy. 2.. Their condemnation of mobile phone use while driving a vehicle. I fully agree, yet we see Gardai driving official vehicles everyday while having a phone in their hand. Can’t all be work calls now can it. In any event, the distraction caused by mobile phone usage doesn’t disappear just because it’s a work call. Roads policing do great work, but Garda policy isn’t being adhered to in this video, and the fact that Gardaí can use phones for work calls despite the obvious safety possibilities is ridiculous. Let the non-driving Garda take the call. Work calls indeed!
