But this isn't your fault! Bars/clubs are one of the most popular third places simply because other third places are being erased or aren't promoted or aren't "cool." The reason you meet people at school (and jobs) is because there are what I call "people of convenience." They are people you meet very often due to similar circumstances. Wonder why after HS/college you don't keep many friends? They were friends and people of convenience. If you really want to meet knew people you are going to have to deal with visiting places or finding communities online you might get socially outcast for. There's a certain mentality that I feel the girl in the video has fallen for, where the only "cool" places to go are places like clubs, bars, house parties, etc... and if you like something "not cool" you get excluded from some groups. This isn't always the case obviously. And hobbies are really becoming more common thankfully. So, what you need to do is, if your life feels bland, boring, you need to go to the club all the time with the girls/guys because that's where you can have fun and let loose... you need to find hobbies you enjoy and find an outlet there. Going clubbing and bar hopping is expensive. Hobbies can also cost money depending on the hobby, but it's much more fulfilling and often more permanent. Let's say you take up textiles. Crocheting has become a lot more popular lately. Find a sewing/knitting/crocheting/weaving community and make some friends there. Go to a quilting convention. Buy yarn and make stuff. Find people who like what you like and make friends. Then, once you get past the hard part and make friends, you can go to other third places together. You can go to museums, the movies, bakeries, amusement parks, or whatever! You can also go to the club if you want with your new friends! Don't fall into the ideology that certain things are "cool" or "uncool" or "cringe" or whatever it's being called these days. It still very much is a thing! We joke about back in the early 2000s about how there was a lot of pushback in media that smoking, drinking, partying, clubbing, etc.. was not actually that cool, and you can do other things if you want to. That idea didn't really work for many people. This is very important: if someone is saying they don't like you any more because you don't drink and club as much anymore or at all anymore... they are not someone you want to have in your life anyway. Don't be heartbroken. You aren't going to become a loser for enjoying games, art, shows, etc over things young adults claim are the pinnacle of young life. It's a very immature thing to think that you need to spend your young adult life drinking and partying and clubbing and dancing before you get "too old" or something. Just do what you want to do. That life isn't for everyone. If I had fallen for the idea that getting a fake ID at 19 to go clubbing was what I NEEDED to do, I would be so LOST in life right now at 26. I am glad I figured myself out much sooner.
