BUSTED: Hidden Vintage Westinghouse Hydraulic Elevator @ Lakeside Mall (please read description)

  • While wandering around Lakeside, I came across a public corridor leading to an elevator. I thought I had lucked out once I got closer and saw that it was an old Westy like the mall's main lift. Unfortunately, the lift (which leads to the mall's management offices, presumably a space the public would be able to visit) is RIGHT next to the security office, with a camera showing security what's going on outside the lift. This was my second attempt to film it, and both times I was stopped and questioned by mall security (two different guards) before boarding the lift. Only on my second try did the guard notice that I was filming, and she proceeded to tell me that I wasn't allowed to film in the mall. Since this was after the security encounter while filming the main lift, I decided to just cut my losses and leave the mall. I'd at least documented the existence of this neat old Westy lift, and documented the mall staff's disapproving attitude toward the non-violent and non-disruptive act of recording in a public space (which, I might add, if I were allowed to carry out undeterred, would have provided the property with some free advertising, but instead their response has resulted in negative press for their business.)

    I’m starting to think that “Can I help you?” is basically the nice way of saying you can’t film in here. Seriously, I am so sick of hearing “Can I help you?” Haha

      Same! I find it very condescending.

    Yeah, I would say this mall has absolutely nothing really exciting to offer, and this is also a "dying" mall...

      Its architecture and decor are kind of cool (lots of 70s Taubman stuff) but other than that this mall has gotten to be pretty bad.

    I filmed this thing too earlier this year, I got busted on it too right at the beginning, I told the security what I was doing and asked him if I could get a ride on it. He actually said yes and let me go on with my day.

      @@tkefan29 Yeah, never knew the mall had a "no filming" policy. But nowadays what can ya expect.

      Disappointing really. It's more common nowadays but of the malls around here, Lakeside has been the most hostile to filming in my experience

    To be honest, I wouldn’t have started filming outside, but instead would’ve just said I was using the elevator and done a quick one way ride, but that’s just me. I personally think you handled that really well TKE! Also, I’ve heard the reason that filming is banned is because Al Queda/Isis could be using it to get information on the layout of a building to target for an attack, don’t know if that’s true though!

      @tkefan29  3 года назад +1

      That's something that I've heard for a while, it's often cited by security as a reason to prohibit filming, at times they even go to the trouble of citing laws that don't exist. I'm honestly kind of skeptical about their claims.
