YESS KARA APPRECIATION!! They have a LONG history and LOTS of hits. They were a HUGE girl group both domestically and in ternationally but ESPECIALLY in Japan. They were as big as Girl's Generation and their songs often competed on the charts, like they are one of THE core girl groups. They released hit after hit and still maintained their sound and popularity despite a couple of member changes and difficulties along the way. Jiyoung and Nicole left the group in 2014 so they actually never promoted with Youngji. Jiyoung had some solo songs and and pursued a music AND acting career mostly based in Japan but also still had gigs in Korea and Nicole also pursued a solo career and became an entettainment personality on variety shows and etc. Youngji joined Kara through a survival show called the Kara Project which has a loaded back story but it basically was to choose the new member of Kara to promote alongside Gyuri, Hara, and Seungyeon after Nicole and Jiyoung's departure. Youngji debuted with Mammia Mia then only had ONE comeback before their eventual disbandment in 2016 when they decided not to renew with DSP Media (terrible ass company)., However, you wouldn't be able to tell they never promoted together as these 5 before 2022 from how close they are now and how well they get along! They actually met for the first time when they all gathered to celebrate their anniversary and are now practically inseparable. Jiyoung and Youngji are the same age and joke about how their names are each others but just flipped. They are truly a wonderfully talented group and the killing voice just scratched the surface of some of their hits! I recommend watching their IU Palette episode, its super cute and fun and gives you more insight to their personalities. I also recommend checking out other tracks like Damaged Lady and the MVS for some of the songs featured here!
KARA was one of the top girl groups of 2nd-gen, standing at the pinnacle alongside SNSD and 2NE1 without a doubt. Although they debuted in 2007 under DSP with more of a hip-hop concept with "Break It", it wasn't a breakout hit, and the next year, a member left while Goo Hara and Jiyoung joined the lineup. From here, they went with a cuter concept and I believe they got their first win with "Honey", and you can definitely feel the J-pop influence in their music at this point, which would later bring them massive success in Japan (undoubtedly the top 2nd-gen girl group in Japan). Definitely, while the Killing Voice gets to showcase their vocals, they're known for their electronic dance music that gets you up dancing, and their choreo is always so sharp and in sync, not just the chorus vocals ;o Unfortunately due to contract expiration, Jiyoung and Nicole left the group in 2014, and so DSP made the controversial decision to debut a new member for the group with a survival show, and Youngji was able to win, joining Seungyeon, Gyuri, and Goo Hara for "Mamma Mia" promotions. However, the group did not get to promote for long and released their last title track "Cupid" in 2015. But thankfully, they were able to return in 2022 for the group's 15th debut anniversary! In a way, thanks to RBW purchasing DSP, RBW become responsible for their comeback promotions which was awesome, because they definitely got the best "top 2nd-gen girl group comeback" promotions (no offense SNSD, 2NE1, and T-ara, but they either got limited backing from an agency, or none at all, which wouldn't make things easy). What's interesting is that the "When I Move" promotions were the first time Jiyoung, Nicole, and Youngji were promoting in the group at the same time. "Mister" is so iconic, it might be the original "unexpected hit" because it was just a B-side, and didn't even have an MV. But I think they started performing it on music shows, and the "hip shake" point choreo became so iconic and the song just blew up! "Lupin" is like the original "dark" girl-group concept, with its black outfits and lupin thief-inspired theming, released before T-ara's "I Go Crazy Because of You" and SNSD's "Run Devil Run". That opening was and will always be iconic for international fans back in the day haha It might've been a bit jarring because they went into the bridge there haha For "Mamma Mia", I think Jiyoung forgot to come in on time that's why they were laughing XD To be fair, she was covering Goo Hara's line 🥲 Definitely they still carry that 2nd-gen charm. They don't need complicated choreo, song structures, beat switch-ups, all they need are catchy dance songs and they can just pull it off with their individual charms! Watching their return at MAMA 2022, I was reminded of their skills, because each member completely ate up their screen time and filled the stage with their charisma, they are the pros of pros. Which is even more amazing because they've been on hiatus for 7 years, and Youngji herself was only active for like 1-2 years, but they still got all the moves! :o
"Shijakae" that JiYoung forget is Youngji s part since its first chorus, the other is Hammie in 2nd chorus, and Gyuri in Ending chorus. Hara never get high tone in chorus.
17:39 they are laughing because this song was released after Jiyoung and Nicole left the group and Youngji joined so she isnt very familiar with the timing and messed it up a little here :D
Kara's story is really a miracle in the K-Pop world. Youngji joined after Nicole & Jiyoung left in 2014 but up until the reunion they did not know each other. They had 2-3 comebacks with the new lineup afterwards but then disbanded, Youngji was the only one still under contract with DSP and even performed their songs solo on stage at music shows until her contract was over. They came together for this reunion months prior in 2022 and instantly clicked and build the chemistry you saw here. Which is crazy after they disbanded in 2015 and Hara passing away in 2019. But I guess that made their bond even stronger in a way. It really is a special comeback from an iconic group.
Very much enjoyed seeing the check out their killing voice Kara is a pretty solid group them coming back last year was such a nice surprise Hopefully it isn't the last time
My Kamila heart❤. Loved this killing voice so much! They're laughing at Jiyoung during Mamma Mia because she forgot a lyric before "it's time to be okay." 😅😂
kara songs r really NO joke, my personal favs from them are "mister", "pandora", "damaged lady", "cupid", "step", "rock u" and "honey". HIGHLY recommend u to react to them
please react to their When I Move MV (and if you can, their 2022 MAMA performance)!!!! Oh and I'm so waiting for your reaction to NCT Dream's killing voice
Gyuri - Lead Vocalist. Seungyeon - Main Vocalist. Nicole - Main Rapper & Vocalist. Jiyoung - Vocalist & Rapper. Youngji - Main Rapper & Vocalist. Goo Ha Ra - Main Vocalist (miss her so much 🌺)
Not sure if you take requests on here but I'm gonna just try hehe - since you're on a roll with killing voices would you be able to check out Winner's Killing Voice - its been a while and you've seen a few of their stuff so I'd love to see you explore the group more!
I forget which one you said sounded familiar but in the dance cover medley Mirae did they covered parts of Pretty Girl, Mister, Step which you already know, Lupin, Mamma Mia annnnd When I Move? I think that's all of them? I've watched it enough times that you'd think I would remember for sure but unfortunately my brain only has like 4MB of storage space. Kara are such a popular and iconic group though, you really could have heard the songs anywhere
They are laughing about being ok in Mama Mia…not going to be sad…like life has gone on after Gu Hara took her own life in 2019, which devastated all of them. And some think it id a reference to no more DSP as well.
I think they’re laughing because Ji Young forgot to sing the “sijakhae” part before the “it’s time to be okay” but “no more DSP” is definitely “time to be okay” LMAO 😂
Still hurt to,see KARA without Goo Hara, May she rest in peace

I still stand by my opinion that Lupin and Mamma Mia are the best kpop songs ever to come out.
I saw KARA. I cried.
Thank you very much for this reaction. I still can't believe they're back.
This killing voice was so heartwarming to watch. Bless Kara and Goo hara ❤
I know you mention Le Sserafim's butt shaking choreo all the time, but Kara's Mister was one of the originators for that lol.
I do not discriminate, all butt shakes are welcome. VIVIZ now too!
