Jimmy, you’re right about “Hot Streets”…..arguably the best song on that album is “Alive Again”! It seems like nobody knows that song, that’s how underrated it is, but the writing, horn arrangement, and overall musicianship is top notch!

Chicago was founded in 1967 as Chicago Transit Authority, and after their eponymous named debut album and a lawsuit threat by the actual CTA over the name, it was shortened to Chicago. Terry Kath was the founding guitarist who died from an accidental self inflicted gunshot in January 1978. The band's sound radically changed after that. Grab their first album and listen to Terry's vocals on "Introduction", his supernatural guitar on "Poem 58" and "Liberation" on it.
The second album, that contains "25 Or 6 To 4", also has a seven movement suite "Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon" that displays the range of talents of the band. The suite includes the well known "Make Me Smile" and "Colour My World", both sung by Kath. Danny Seraphine's killer drumming also gets displayed in the suite's movement "To Be Free".

Terry Kath was the original lead guitarist. Jim Hendrix once told him that Terry was better than he was, and he asked them to open for him on tour, which was their big break. Terry was a gun collector and accidentally shot himself in the head while he was showing his guns to some friends. The band brought on a replacement and they are still petforming.

The group, Chicago started in the late 60s - and had quite a combination of
instruments blending together. Of the original 7 members: 1) Peter Cetera
    - was lead singer in many of their songs. He wrote some of the music, and he
also played bass guitar. 2) Terry Kath - played lead guitar, and actually was
lead singer in a few of their songs. His guitar-playing was noticed by Jimi
Hendrix who spoke very highly of him. Terry Kath's voice was quite unique
also - he was a fan of Ray Charles, and when he sings you might notice that it
sounds kind of like Charles. 3) Robert Lamm - played keyboard, and was the
lead singer on many of their songs. Lamm wrote many of their songs and was
gifted in songwriting. 4) Danny Seraphine - drummer. He definitely could play
the drums! 5) Walter Parazaider played the saxophone. 6) Lee Loughnane -
trumpet player. 7) James Pankow - trombone player who also wrote some of
their songs as well. Each musician wasn't limited to the instruments that I had
just stated, but those instruments were the ones they played the most. The band
has had many changes over the years and decades, and exist until now: 11/12/23.
They have had 37 albums from late 60s until this date of 11/12/2023. There is a
current Russian group that plays many Chicago songs, and they play them very
well. That group is called 'Leonid and Friends'. Leonid and Friends also play
a few 'Earth, Wind, and Fire' songs - and they do it very well! Enough said.

  • @raygoto
    @raygoto 4 года назад +5

Early Chicago also has the song off their 1st album, a cover of Steve Winwood's, "I'm a Man"
As for other bands, I would love to see a reaction to Pink Floyd's - Live Pulse 1994 - "Comfortably Numb" and "Coming Back to Life"... That whole concert is unbelievable! And totally different, if you're a musician, Steely Dan from the 1970s is phenomenal too... Of course, these don't even scratch the surface. These two plus Zepplin, the Stones, and Elvis will bring you massive views Bruh! lol Ah, i love them all! Much success to you Julio, however you proceed with this channel!

Terry Kath is one of the singers of the group and is the lead guitar. Jimi Hendrix referred to him as the best guitarist of the era. Song was written (music and lyrics) written by Robert Lamm (keyboard/piano) and Peter Cetera (bass guitar) - they are the other singers of the group and their harmonies are spot on. Stayed up very late trying to compose a song to include a guitar solo which would highlight Kath's extreme talent. All tired with red, sore eyes made it hard to read the clock, hence the title of the song. If you can get a hold of their 2nd album, titled Chicago, the inside leaf has a short documentary of the band, written by their manager. 1969 to 1975 was their best. They actually had more top 40 hits in the 79's than anyone else. They wrote all their own arrangements and lyrics.

Chicago came together in the mid '60 in Chicago, IL .... founded by guitarist Terry Kath, drummer Danny Seraphine and woodwind player Walt Parazaider, the group eventually added other members (Robert Lamm, keyboards, Peter Cetera, bass, Lee Loughnane, trumpet, and James Pankow, trombone) from the DePaul University / downtown Chicago bar scene. Originally a cover band, they began to write and perform their own material. They came to the attention of fellow DePaul student James William Guercio - a producer for Columbia records.
Guercio moved the group to LA where they became the house band at the famous Whiskey-A-GoGo. Their biggest break came when Jimi Hendrix saw them at the Whiskey - was blown away by their brass section ("one set of lungs" according to Hendrix) and their guitarist Kath whom Hendrix considered a better player. They eventually toured extensively with Hendrix.
Their first Top 40 hit was "Make Me Smile" off Chicago II. From there it was pretty much platinum albums and Top 40 hits until January 1978 when Kath died of an accidental self inflicted gunshot wound. The chemistry of the band was forever altered and their playlist became mostly softer love songs and power ballads.
At the height of their efforts, they were easily one of the most musically gifted bands ever.

Chicago burst out of the gate with 3 double albums (followed by a live quadruple!) in barely 2 years. Funnily enough the 2nd album contains a producer's note stating bluntly 'this endeavor should be experienced sequentially' i.e. exactly what you were talking about! Terry Kath is the guitarist and severely underrated in his lifetime, also a great vocalist (he sang lead on Make Me Smile);they had 3 great and very different singers, Kath, Peter Cetera (on this track) and Robert Lamm. To hear them all on one track check out their cover of I'm a Man, but the first track off the first album is simply called Introduction and should be your next reaction, as it tells you exactly who they are!

The late, great Terry Kath, arguably the best guitarist ever. You can really see his guitar chops in the live version at Tanglewood that's here on Yt. He shot himself in a game of Russian Roulette - gone too soon. You can't go wrong with any of their songs. I strongly recommend Earth Wind & Fire as well - they have shared the same brass section. September and Fantasy are great ones to try.

Please stop perpetuating the idea that Terry was playing Russian roulette, he wasn’t. He was cleaning his handgun, thought it was unloaded and accidentally shot himself in the head.

@@timwalsh2652 I’m not perpetuating anything. TK is among the greatest rock guitarists ever. I wouldn’t do anything to harm his memory. Every account of the cause of his death that I have read was because of what I mentioned above.

Sorry, but if you did a little research you’d learn what really happened. Even Terry’s wife confirmed it on several videos. I think Terry was too 5 guitarists of all time, very sad that he left us way too soon. Here’s Wikipedia’s account: By 1978, Kath was regularly carrying guns around and enjoyed target shooting with them.[40] Around 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on Monday, January 23, after a party at the home of roadie and band technician Don Johnson, in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, Kath began to play with his guns. He spun his .38 revolver on his finger, put it to his temple, and pulled the trigger. The gun was not loaded. Johnson warned Kath several times to be careful. Kath then picked up a semi-automatic 9-mm pistol and, leaning back in a chair, said to Johnson, "Don't worry about it ... Look, the clip is not even in it." His last words were, "What do you think I’m gonna do? Blow my brains out?"[36] To assuage Johnson's concerns, Kath showed Johnson the empty magazine. Kath then replaced the magazine in the gun, put the gun to his temple and pulled the trigger. Apparently unbeknownst to Kath, the semi-automatic had a round in the chamber. He died instantly from the gunshot,[36] eight days shy of his 32nd birthday.

@@Omega13channel do you even know what Russian Roulette is? I’m done, I guess we agree that Terry was a great guitarist, and leave it there.

The music up today has no soul nothing but push buttons…. Yesteryears music and musicians playing instruments. You can hear the soul doesn’t matter the genre.

You should listen to the songs "Uptown" and "Hideaway" by Chicago. Also, check out the song "I'm a Man" and you will understand why Angus Young is not very good.
