  • First Flights of Legal Eagle XL ORV and BSV35. This engine drive combination is on a level with the 42/45 hp 1/2VW and Verner 3V however it is heavier. Take off time, brake release to breaking ground, climb rate and speeds were all on a level with engines mentioned. On climb out was seeing 450 to 480 fpm, Remember, this is at Max gross weight, plus some. Engine temperatures were all in the green and oil temps were good. The Warp Drive ground adjustable prop is set for max. 3600 engine RPM. Governor has been removed and is not used. Engine is stock including carb. More to come. LES GREAT TO SEE THE BSV35 WORKING SO WELL,ONE QUESTION? IS THE REDRIVE THE SAME AS 23HP ENGINE OR THE NEXT UPGRADE MODEL? AND WILL THERE BE PLANS AVAILABLE IN THE FUTURE FOR IT.I LIVE IN THE THIN AIR OF DENVER AND NEED THE EXTRA HP. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND RIDE THE WIND!!

Looks good! How many feet down the runway would you think after clearing tree top height?

I considered one of these, but i am not happy with the bed styly mounting system.
For me to fly one i would have to have more than just the bottom of the engine secured, especially with the thrust being so high in relation to the mounts.
My LEXL is under construction, and will wear a full case 45hp Cassler motor with a magneto.
I admit to being exactly the type of crazy SOB who IS going to cross country an ultralight.

Be interesting to see the possible turbulent airflow over the rudder. Does the Eagle tend to fly straight, or fish-tail? Plenty of rudder authority during flight?
    Dipstick could be shortened.
Must be odd, people on the ground hearing a riding lawnmower overhead!
I bet you'd like living near a playa for test runs.

My elderly airplane mechanic friend says that it looks like some harmonic vibration~ possibly consider using a 3 wing prop instead of a 2 wing prop to lessen that?

the 23 is 12 seconds to wheels up the 35 is 11 seconds with les, A rotax 503 is like 6 and a video i watched with a half vw demonstrating stol was 22 seconds lol, the thumpair is on par with the 503 at 6 seconds.
Not seeing the benefit of the 35 as it added little to takeoff and adds a lot of weight on an already grossed plane, plus that barbell tie wrapped to the tail.

@@keithschneider6348 well he's not in a state like virginia (and soon Florida) which require ul reg with the state and it must meet part 103, or jail time, and you have to be insured too. But the AAM push will change that in texas too, they dont want to miss out on 3 trillion dollars in 2030.

@@keithschneider6348 its done in Virginia, and looks likely per the state legislature nuking ULTRALIGHT VEHICLE from the state code in the new Florida AAM bill to support AIR TAXIS, to haul the rich around in little drones that will use the part 103 airspace. Advanced Air Mobility movement between the FAA and States. Virginia made ultralight into AIRCRAFT and Florida looks to be doing the same, the USUA and EAA are dead silent on all of this.
