Only recently discovered The Great Detective...entertaining and after watching about half dozen episodes with characters speaking fairly good English learded that they were NOT Brits but Canadians ...or at leaste I think they are In any event the show has been enterianing and I can understan most of it TY
The Great Detective (1979)- 7.5 Canadian TV series filmed in part in Ontario. The series is based on the first government appointed provincial detective Alistair Cameron, set during the late Victorian era. He is assisted by his friend Dr. Chisum a pathologist. He relocates from Scotland to Canada for his job, and takes in a house keeper and becomes guardian of his niece. He also has a sergeant who assists on his cases. A Question of Loyalties (1981) - 6.8 When the scion of a wealthy family is found shot to death in a servant girl's room, Inspector Cameron needs to know whether it is premeditated murder.
This reminds me of the show Sergeant Cork. Sgt Cork looks like the inspector and his sidekick looks like Constable Marriott (the sidekick of Sgt Cork).
Even though there is a lot of 'stuff' in these 50+ Minutes... There is also Lots left out. This is a writing and directing problem. (oh... the lighting team sucks also - terribly for a 1981 television series). If the writers were better equipped with transposing to an actual script for television, and a director was better at introducing the underlying facts without braking the episode's movements, the story could have easily been more convincing. Every tiny detail of all those involved did not emerge until the last few minutes. And it was all based upon suspicions, innuendo, and circumstantial evidence - driven by theory and opinions.
+Nadine Martranchard It won't matter what we say Inura comments on every one being bad. Thank you for telling him he didn't need to watch. Now if we could make him understand we don't need to hear from him.
I love Inspector Cameron's avancular, genial manner. The title score (although very short) is one of the most serene bits of music I've ever heard.
This series makes me feel good, comforted and your synopsis internet pilgrim was well-done clear and well done. looking forward to watching more.

LIKED this episode. Growing very fond of the Inspector.
This show has been such a blessing for me to escape to during some worrisome times.
Thanks for posting this series, I adore Inspector Cameron with his great booming voice (:
Yes, he's a lot of fun. Most of Ontario's population are of Scots origin, like Inspector Cameron and Dr. Chisholm. (or at least the Old Guard are)
Theatre.
I love both actors-in Sgt Cork series also. I keep watch for more episides on both. Subscribed ❤ Espec. Old BBC Mysteries

Excellent episode, thanks for sharing! I got it fairly early on this time :-) Poor little Cathy ...

And this episode's major plot hole: the recording of gun serial numbers by the police armoury.
Thank you!!!!
Cheers!

The good news is that you don't have to watch it..

It's rare to see intelligent commentary in this muck and mire of RUclips comments. Thank you.
For early 🇨🇦 CBC this is quite well done.
