    I honestly think both are pretty close. The chin mount gives a slightly better view of the trail while the chest mount makes the viewer a vantage point where the view gives the impression they are on the bike a bit more, but depending on the audience that may or may not be preferred. Neither show the steepness all that well. Overall I'd give a slight nod to the chin mount though.

      Completely agree with you. On less rough trail where I don't intend to wear a full-face helmet, the chest mount works great! I also, prefer the chin mount when things get a bit more rough due to the help of your head as a gimbal. Thanks for commenting!

    I'm voting the chin. I'm in the process of choosing which camera to get. I will be getting one of the mounts, made in Newfoundland is a bonus. I love these trails, I rode them last fall and the mountain is one of the best areas I've ridden. I saw the photo of the log drop on NOTG and hit it blind! So sweet I did that trail twice! Great to watch the videos.

    boy that's a tough one honestly they are both great, but probably the chin mount, for all of gopro's downfalls and headaches the image stability is incredible. i'm looking into a insta360 because i want both cameras for in-car footage but the stability is pretty close to the gopro. not ready to pull the trigger on a mtb yet but i enjoy living vicariously through this channel in the meantime. i'm thinking probably a Marin Rift 1 or 2, i am leaning towards a 27.5 because i'm 5ft6in and it would feel more natural, do you have any other recomendations for a sub 2k full suspension bike?

    • @MTBCoop
      @MTBCoop Год назад +1

      I'm with you on the chin mount. Stabilization is so great - especially on a chin mount! My buddy @singletrack-sasquatch-mtb uses the Insta360 X3 and it is a super versatile camera for both horizontal/vertical video. Check out his channel!
      Regarding bikes, so many are on sale right now! What type of riding are you looking to do? Best deals under $2k in my opinion are: Rocky Mountain Element, Marin Rift Zone, Kona Process 134, Polygon Siskiu. Happy to answer any questions you have!

    chin mount seems more stable and conveys more steepness. OTG looked like a blue trail because it looked practically flat, but we know it's not.

    Thanks for sharing the comparison contents. To my eyes, it seems the chin mount had a slight edge on stability. FOV and realistic view (steepness) i can't really tell. I used both chest and helmet (top) mounts, i liked them. I could have used chin mount, too, if i used the full face helmet more often.

    I’m still deciding on which one I like but both have pretty good stability (I also use top of helmet mount). Chin mount gives you a better POV of the rider (how they ride/where they’re looking). Chesty gives you more depth view. The issue I have is that I’m a heavy mouth breather lol and you can hear it louder with the chin mount lol.

    Hello friend ! This support that holds the camera in the chesty, what comes with the camera when purchased? Or are you using model J? And if not the J, is it possible to use what comes in the hero 11 camera kit with chesty and get good bike pictures like the ones you do?

    Hey man great video! Love the idea of the comparison. I have used both chin mount and chest mount with my Hero7 and the chin mount is by far the superior choice for that gen GoPro. The chest mount is way to shaky and greatly distracts from the viewers immersive experience. The chin mount provides a similar field of view, albeit less bike than the chest mount, but I found the added gimbal of the head makes for the most stable footage. Steepness hardly shines through no matter what, such a sad fact :(

    Speaking as a confirmed (66 yr-old) roadie, I found the footage terrifying! So rough, rocky and rooty! And those trees don't move if you hit them! I think I will leave that stuff to you younger guys and gals! I can't decide on which camera I like best. However, the chest mount shows the steering inputs clearly, which I find more informative! Good Luck and Be Safe!

      Coming from someone whos rode both, The road is way more terrifying and substantially more dangerous. I've broken multiple bones on the road, whereas on a mountain bike the worst I've done is cut my knee open. Cars will absolutely kill you.
