I always pre-wash my fabrics prior to sewing; including ankara. I find with ankara, you get what you pay for. When I pay a little more, the fabric is a softer/better quality even after ironing. Thank you for this video.
Thank you so much!! I am in the US, and I purchased from Middlesex. The fabric met my expectations and I conducted your tests. They passed. Thank you for being so informative.
Thanks for sharing! I know what you mean about the quality of the first fabric; when they feel like that they're usually made in Thailand, so aren't 'authentic'. Really liked the second fabric though, very pretty
I’m glad that I came across this video ! I didn’t know that either and I have a fabric from Etsy that feels like the first one I hope that with washing in the machine it gains some softness and I can use it successfully as a headwrap!
about 3 of the fabrics you chose....are in my basket, the chocolate brown too....that's my shop and I'm in Ireland. the shipping is a bit higher for me. I design too. and hey your videos are lovely. I just discovered you today and I've been watching since midnight and it's 05:33. keep it up
Thank you for the review about shopping with Middlesex, luxury wax isn't the best of their fabrics,Julius Holland is extremely beautiful,i personally shop from Empire textiles, their shipping rate is very okay,am not in anyway promoting them, but,i have shopped with them like 8-9 times now,i live in Qatar,it usually takes 3-5days to get to my destination....maybe next time, you buy their Julius Holland, you might lovee them better than the Luxury wax, they are very soft ankara wax.Thank you for sharing.😃😘
I bought once a phoenix hittarget/aeon sun branded wax (£19 for 6 yds). The fabric was good quality (beautiful print) but not quite suitable for dressmaking, it was like a medium weight twill. So I made bags and cushions with it. I'm looking for tanalawn type of fabric, any brand suggestion is welcome.
Thank you! Because of your video I was able to purchase beautiful fabrics cheaper than I can here in my town at my African store. I will come back and let you know how I like them :)
Thank you for your help. I live in the USA and bought Ankara Wax Cotton from Mood Fabrics in NYC online. I followed your suggestions for wash, heat/iron, and stitch test because I have hear so many good and bad things about Ankara cotton wax fabrics. Thank you for your help. Happy sewing.
Hello Kim,I always love Ur videos and always anxious when I have an alert on ur videos, keep the good work going we love you girl!!!!. Pls can you tell me the fashion school you attended because am looking forward for one, thanks till I hear from you
Awww thanks for the love dear. I attended West London College, it was an off-campus under Heriot Watt University in Scotland. Unfortunately, the fashion department has been dissolved in the London campus I attended but you can still apply to the main University.
I am happy to find this. Thank you so much for sharing. I really would like to learn how to make traditional African dresses. Please do a tutorial from beginning to finish. There are so many of us who want to learn this. Keep up the great work!

Do you launder the fabric before you sew with it? I love the vibrant colors African fabric.

I'm sorry if this is too late for you, but I can recommend Nottingham Trent University, in Nottingham.
