I love that Agatha's writing career was born of spite. Her mother wouldn't teach her to read so she taught herself. Her sister bet her she couldn't write a mystery so she did. Love that energy.
Looks like the dude in YTs basement who puts content warnings was drunk and gave this a content warning because he doesnt get paid enough to do a good job
Haha right? Like, the video on George Reeves right before this talks about suicide and they put up their own warning for it. And they did with this one too. But RUclips has to butt in on this one for some reason wtf
@@maximusheaton8375 it’s a joke about the husband allegedly burning the letter that agatha gave him! he said there was nothing important in it but we can’t really believe him
that letter archie burned ONE HUNDRED PERCENT was an accusation of cheating by agatha, and the reason he burned it was because he didn't want proof of his adultery all over the newspapers. it would be very hard to convince me otherwise
@@arthurvice503 It was Archie who said she had lost her memory, maybe she just booked in under a pseudonym and wanted to get away from it all for a while.
The poor woman needed a break. Her mother died, she had writer’s block, and her husband was cheating on her. How many of us don’t want to drop everything and go off the grid when things get difficult?
You’re right! I wanted to run away when I was 19 after being forced to drop out of college (terrible grades and agreement with parents), being cheated on and then dumped, diagnosed with depression, being grounded, and almost being disowned. I didn’t do it but I get why she would have done it.
that's a real jump in logic since she apparently had no clue she even had a husband at that time, i think it's FAR more about her suddenly "waking up" with money, a relaxing holiday, and zero recollection of any of her recent troubles OR her responsibilities. Anyone would love that.
Honestly that has always been my take on it. Agatha Christie just wanted to humiliate her cheating husband and also wanted to just party it out. I mean a prolific mystery writer HAS to know that cops are gonna be worthless so who's gonna call her bluff? The guys who held a séance instead of GOING TO LIVERPOOL? Good for her that's Gaslight Girlboss Gatekeep energy
@@stagrunners plausible. Also why would she use the girl that her husband cheated on last name? If she lost her memory I would assume she would not remember that name.

well the implication if Agatha did have her daughter in the car with her is that Agatha was going to kill herself AND the child. that's a little disturbing but yeah, they covered the Jamison case which could have been murder/suicide so still not anything new for the boys. this new warning is unsolved
I like to imagine that her dirtbag husband just assumed she lost her memory because she didn’t say anything to him. Her husband “hey honey I’m here to take you home” Agatha: just glaring at him and refusing to talk to him Her husband “great heavens my wife has lost her memory!!! Surely that is the ONLY reason she’s not saying anything to me!! She doesn’t know who I am!”

I did a lot of self-teaching and remember clear as a bell that I could read Mickey Mouse and the Sorcerer's Apprentice, and Rumplestiltskin, before I started kindergarten. Though my parents did help out when they had time.
Sounds to me like the trauma of losing her mother and her husband having an affair, combined with her already wobbly mental health, triggered a dissociative episode. Dissociation is hardly recognised today, so I don't imagine they'd have picked up on it or even known what it was back then.
I think of the same scenario. She did underwent a psychiatric treatment or smth as mentioned in the video. So, even there wasn't really someone who can diagnose it, she eventually regained her memories back
I was thinking it was an dissociative episode as well. The trauma from losing her mother and her husband's affair definitely could have contributed to that.
How can she lose her memories if she sent a letter to her brother about where she is. If she sent the letter before she lost her memories how did she knew to go to that exact spa after she lost her memories. I call some bs on her story.
I genuinely don’t understand why this is regarded as a mystery- like… she told people where she was going, she was in a very reasonable accident, she lived to tell the story after she was PICKED UP WHERE SHE SAID SHE WOULD BE. Like… if they had just immediately checked in on where she said she was right from the beginning it wouldn’t be regarded as a mystery like it is. Just because she writes mysteries doesn’t mean everything that’s ever happened to her has some ulterior motive
Everything about her story doesn't add up, and nothing about her accident was reasonable either. The car was precariously teetering on a cliff, in a very dramatic and extremely unrealistic fashion. How often does an out of control car end up perfectly balanced on a cliff so as not to fall off but allow a concussed driver to get out and walk away? It's a mystery because she says one thing but all evidence points to it not being true.
Yup she had a traumatic brain injury after already been deeply depressed that likely triggered a dissociative state that left her with tempary amnesia. With psychiatric treatment involving her loved ones giving her support needed she was able to come out of it slowly just as you would expect. Her account easily cleared up any remaining questions. I fail to see how this could be a true mystery
@@rosiejl2798 Nah there was no brain injury. She was just going through a very difficult time with the death of her mother and betrayal of her husband. The memory loss story was a cover because she felt embarrassed.
For the post Mortem: There is a rare disorder called Dissociative Fugue where someone can forget their identity. It is marked often by childhood trauma, but can be caused by a singular traumatic event traumatic event. The person makes unplanned or unexpected trips or wandering and sometimes forms a new identity. This fits with Agathas story. The car crash, her being suicidal, could have caused a fugue state. But whats odd though is Agatha was found where she said she would be. Also, the fact she used the last name of her husbands mistress. She could have been in a fugue state and those be coincidences, but it seems odd.
Maybe there’s a little bit of her memory like at the back of her mind where she knew the hotel, the mistress, but just doesn’t have the consciousness to know what it meant. Just like what the boys said. This happened actually (a bit) to me before, dealing with childhood trauma and a sudden big traumatic event brought me to a similar situation that I only was able to “get back” through long and intense therapy.
I don't buy the fugue state theory. There were too much of coincidences, like the last location of the car, the using of her husband's mistress last name and ending on the same destination as she said she would go (on the letter).
Yess omg!! There is a channel about cleaning up crime scenes uncensored, and I've never gotten a content warning for their vids, yet i get one for this...no logic whatsoever
I used to know someone who saw their friend murdered in front of them. They then proceeded to finish out college without remembering a thing about having done so afterwards. Grief an trauma really just Does That to people sometimes. Its terrifying what the mind can do when it doesn’t want to be hurt.
let’s be real. this very polite lady wanted to get away but didn’t know how to do it. her husband cheated on her, she’s depressed, etc. she’s a mystery author, probably a bit dramatic (it’s the 20s). She packs a bag, drives probably a bit off, walks to the train, vibes for a couple days, and feels better after coming back from being “off the grid.” I give her props
It could also be a psychological thing, she was so traumatised by her mum's death, her husband's cheating that her mum had warned her of, that she wanted to sort of run away. But instead of planning it, it happened unconsciously and she wanted to get rid of this life, which is why it may also have taken her a little time to remember this life too.

She was going through some really tough times, sounds like the trauma led to a dissociative episode. Post-mortem: she’s clearly not shy to do anything out of spite. She learnt to read because her mother wouldn’t allow, she wrote mystery novels because her sister thought she couldn’t. What would stop her from shaming her husband publicly?
Ya don’t think there’s a bit of a jump between teaching yourself to read and faking your own disappearance in an immensely convoluted way?? Also I don’t think she learned to read out of spite I think she just wanted to know how to read lmao
the vid said she learned to read because she was understimulated. and it seems like beyond that she had a pretty great relationship with her mother. also writing mystery novels because her sister thought she couldn't? i think that was probably a push to do something she maybe has always wanted to do. not saying she didn't shame her husband because honestly... i'm not mad about that. but i find this a pretty big jump esp since these events are from when she was much younger
Assuming she only taught herself how to read because her mother wouldn't teach her is a huge jump in conclusion lmao, she probably just wanted to read. If it was only out of spite she would've stopped right after showing off to her mom. Same thing with her sister, talented people are often competitive, so the challenge could definitely be an incentive, but that doesn't mean it was out of spite. It's incredibly out of character for her to be experiencing pain, loss and probably depression because of her mother's death and also have the energy and mental fortitude to plan a convoluted revenge plot against her husband. Also, why would she use his lover's surname as an alias if this was really a revenge?
For Post Mortem: Not exactly a question, BUT- Christie wrote a semi-autobiographical novel called "Unfinished Portrait" that was published in 1934 in which the protagonist (Celia) loses her mother (with whom she was very close) and soon after discovers her husband was cheating on her. In the novel, after trying to keep the marriage together for the sake of her daughter (her husband wants a divorce so he can marry the mistress) and dealing with severe insomnia, she has a breakdown and tries to drown herself. She's rescued but she spends a lot of time afterwards in a sort of fuzzy state of mind. Even though Celia doesn't disappear in the book, that sounds really similar to what Agatha Christie described to the newspapers. Afterwards, she goes to Switzerland to recover before eventually getting a divorce. The book also goes into a lot of detail about Celia's emotions and mental stress at the time, so the memory loss theory makes a lot more sense once you read it. Even though there are some differences in their actual lives, Celia's personality is pretty much exactly what Christie's was described as in the episode (shy, imaginative, interested in writing and literature) so you could sort of see it as Christie explaining her point of view through the character? Idk I just wanted to bring up the book since I haven't seen any mention of it in the comments yet lol. #buzzfeedunsolvedpostmortem #Postmortem

For postmortem: Why is this video age-restricted/sensitive content when this is one of the least disturbing unsolved videos. I mean Jack the ripper details were more brutal than this. Also Shane saying quid was the best bit of this video.
Im inclined to believe her story. She is literally the greatest mystery writer to ever live, and thats the story she "makes up"? If she were to make up a story id imagine itd have far less plot holes and would be easier to follow. Sometimes life is stranger than fiction.
That's a very very good point, if she orchestrated it, it would be a better written story than that. However one thing that doesn't make sense is the fact that she would remember leaving the car when she woke up after the accident, she said as much herself. Few days later she reads the paper about a missing author who looks exactly like her, in a car crash just like her on the same day, also while having mud and blood on her. No way she doesn't put two and two together, even if she did lose her memory, she's clearly intelligent and would have put it together if it did happen.
@@ronanpowell7781 Well, she wasn't exactly in the best state of mind, was she? At that point she didn't want to be Mrs. Christie, so much so that her brain packed away those memories and made up new ones of being Theresa Neele. Knowledge of certain things can pop the bubble, making you lose you safe place, so when you're confronted with something like that, you ignore it to preserve the bubble. For people who don’t understand how writing more than 2 books a year is impressive: Most books, especially debuts, can take all from a year to 10 years based on the author. If you’re contracted to a publisher you will have a deadline which is usually a year if it’s in a series. Personally I’ve been writing on a 7-part story since I was 15 years old (19 now) and though I’m a young writer the way **I** personally write means the whole story has to be on some level done. Which means it’s gonna be a while before they’re even considered being published. Her writing more than one a year shows that it was her element and that she was so good at her job that she didn’t have that type of writer’s block most authors/aspiring authors have
I agree I’ve been writing novels since I was 15 (18 at the time of comment) and none of which have really been finished. But I started something last summer based upon a small theory about Jack the Ripper and now as I have nearly finished book 1 I decided to work on a stand alone. If they are published I would hope for them to be released the same year as I am really enjoying writing them, and I love all the characters
I'm not someone who reads a lot of books, but yeah, writing in general is hard. Especially after you have to write your thesis for your final project as an undergrad.
I mean, when you take into consideration Agatha's history of mental illness, and the fact that she is experiencing 2 extremely traumatic events nearly simultaneously, is it really that unlikely to theorize that she had some type of disassociative episode?
That was my thought too! Combining her mental health issues with her maybe car accident she could have been in an amnesiac state or experiencing a major dissociative episode. Who knows!
Especially in a time where psychology was not only barely understood, it was highly looked down upon. No one back then would believe a smart writer could have that haopen
Highly unlikely. 100+ million copies of her books sold. That’s all you need to know. She knew what she was doing. Mystery writer created a real-life mystery that captured the worlds attention while also publicly shaming her husband. TMZ would have a field day if this happened today lol
Considering it mentions her and Archie moved apart after her lapse in memory, Archie likely was set to be home by the time the daughter wakes up in order to take care of her, and did this up until they found Agatha and she regained custody. Or she had a nanny. The child clearly didn't have anything bad happen to her despite her mother's disappearance, so it had to be one of the two. 😳
It just seems like this woman wanted to get out of an abusive relationship and have a lovely vacation and claiming amnesia and mental health issues may have helped her get away from him for good. 🤷🏼♀️
or she planned the vacation, attempted suicide, and then went into a fugue state like she said, which would serve as the brain's way of taking her away from stress. it's happened before, it's absolutely wild, like the case of william powell (benjaman alec)
The most singlehandedly British thing to happen during a missing persons case is definitely for the police to attempt to enlist the help of the victim’s dog. Everything Shane said about British nonchalant-cy was so accurate.
Shane is completely right about his read on British people- it’s just an unspoken agreement that if you see something weird in public you say nothing, unless you want to use it as an icebreaker at a family dinner
This made me think of Karl Pilkington. I love when he talks about the weird stuff from his childhood and Ricky and Steve are just like "you're insane" But all the way over here in America, I too saw a horse in a neighbors living room. 😆
“The following content has been identified by the RUclips community as inappropriate or offensive to some audiences.” Oh this is going to be a good one…
Christie: I'm going to a spa in Yorkshire. The police: She's just in a silly goofy mood! Also, I know this was said, but this 100% sounds like a case of a dissociative fugue, or a fugue state. And it is just as terrifying to experience as it sounds like it would be.
I personally think that she was under a lot of stress and grief, and may have suffered a breakdown of some kind. Mentally changing into a different person to escape all the problems in her own life.
I agree. I think it was simply a mental breakdown. I'm not a psychiatrist obviously so I have no idea if what she experienced is consistent with a mental breakdown but that is what it sounded like to me. She was overwhelmed and felt the sudden urge to get away.
Idk why but I find Ryan telling Shane he wont be around his future kids so cute. I just love it when friends make it clear that they'll be involved in each other's lives in the future. Because of this episode right, I’m now mixing up Blanche DuBois (from Streetcar Named Desire) and Agatha Christie. For no real reasons other than they both faced marital troubles.
i honestly think she “disappeared” out of spite to see how her husband would react. it seems like a lot of her actions were motivated by her wanting to prove people wrong, or just in spite of them. her mom didn’t want her to learn how to read, so she taught herself in spite of that. her sister said she could never write a mystery, so she did in spite of that.
I believe she got the revenge she wanted. When her scumbag husband remarried one newspaper actually posted about his wedding and how the bride was a spinster younger than him named the same name that Agatha Christie used in the hotel and that said bride was with him in a party in the moment that Agatha Christie was gone missing. This is history and online now. The mistress' name is everywhere even today. And to make it worst Agatha worked with Nelle planning events for kids.
shane was absolutely right, if british people see something we’re not gonna say anything about it so it’s 100% possible a lot of people saw and recognised her but didn’t say anything either because they didn’t want to cause a bother if they were wrong or because they just didn’t feel like it.
For postmortem: Perhaps Agatha Christie told a half truth in her interview. She could have been very upset and left that night thinking about killing herself by driving or jumping off the cliff but changed her mind. She then went to the spa instead (because she is a lady) realizing she probably just needed to clear her head and had a nice vacation away from her cheating husband and the media. She wrote the letters not thinking people would think she went missing. The letter to her husband probably revealed his affair and that's why he burned it. And later in her interview, she did not want to reveal that she was actually going to kill herself so she said she just lost her memory and had wonderful time chillin being someone else.
Her story reminds me of Matilda, Matilda’s parents wouldn’t teach her to read or send her to school so she taught her self, same with Agatha, Matilda then became obsessed with reading, so did Agatha, then they became like the characters in the books they wrote/read
Agatha: I’m in a Yorkshire spa Police: no she’s disguised as a man in London we can’t find her Agatha: I’m literally in a Yorkshire spa Police: we literally have no idea where she is
It's things like this that causes movies and general entertainment to stereotypically make fun of the English police force, like Sherlock and Around The World In 80 Days.
Post Mortem: This sounds like case of dissociative fugue. People who expirience it suddenly leave their home and their lives. Because they suffer from amnesia, they come up with new identity. This usually lasts few days, but there were cases of people with dissociative fugue that started completely new life :new family, job, identity. It's usually caused by trauma or severe stress like all dissociative disorders.
She could have genuinely intended to go to a spa when she had the accident- or written them to try and hide an attempt at suicide. When she then had the accident and entered a dissociative state the intention to travel to yorkshire and go to a spa might have remained. As shane and Ryan said, sometimes you do things on autopilot without questioning them, and it could have been a subconscious reaction to her intentions before she lost her memory.
[Edit] okay I definitely want them to talk about this in Post Mortem…. but this sounds like full blown dissociative fugue. “Dissociative fugue is a psychiatric disorder characterized by amnesia coupled with sudden unexpected travel away from the individual's usual surroundings and denial of all memory of [their] whereabouts during the period of wandering.” “One or more episodes of amnesia in which the inability to recall some or all of one's past and either the loss of one's identity or the formation of a new identity occur with sudden, unexpected, purposeful travel away from home.” This is usually brought on by emotional trauma like the death of a loved one. With her mom passing, her husband having an affair, and a suicide attempt, I’d say she had quite a bit of trauma that could trigger this. Her forming a new identity also leads me to believe this
for post mortem: she could’ve had a manic episode triggered by the death of her mom and archie’s affair the episode could’ve also triggered the memory loss that was initially caused from the car crash. i dont think she would pull a stunt to expose archie or to boost sales because her theory of memory loss has risks of the public deeming her as mentally ill, i think the risk of pulling a stunt like that outweighs the benefit so i think it was a genuine episode.
I definitely think it was an episode, especially with everything going on in her life. Memory loss was probably a cover story cause mental illness was and is so stigmatized.
Or she could've been helping The Doctor and Donna deal with a pissed off Vespiform and the memory loss was due to the giant alien wasp releasing her from a psychic neural link (see The Unicorn and the Wasp for reference)
This is what I always thought happened. The stress from her life caused her to have a breakdown resulting in amnesia and her mind managed to get herself somewhere that made sense such as the spa resort.
Her disappearance certainly opened the door for other authors to come up with their own spins: The Christie Affair by Nina de Gramont (told from the mistress's pov) and The Mystery of Mrs Christie by Marie Benedict are recent novels. I recommend both!
As soon as Ryan mentioned she gave her husband a “stony stare” when he found her at the spa, my immediate thought was that she was so upset with him that she pretended not to know him to get away from him. Maybe to embarrass him too, but definitely seems like she was given an opportunity to end an unhappy marriage and did so. I do agree with the ghoul boys about her account of what happened though.
but how did she remember her spa trip then? she had written about it way before the accident, and ended up there right after, at the exact time she had mentioned in the letter
@@ananyaasthana9668 thats kinda how fugue states work tho. you go on autopilot and often times do remember your short term plans, despite having lost most of your memory
Postmortem theory: I always want to believe women who say they suffered from a trauma. Even if Christie didn't lose her memory from the car accident, maybe her extreme stress caused her to dissociate from herself temporarily. Or, even if she didn't fully lose her memory and disappeared on purpose, her fully abandoning her life and especially abandoning her daughter for attention seems more like a desperate cry for help than anything else. I don't think this was an act of vanity.
I lost just a few month’s worth of memory from that very thing. I was depressed & didn’t realize it. After getting on meds, I still only have bits & pieces.
I think that Agatha Christie's story is MOSTLY true. I think she left the house, drove around, and attempted to kill herself. But I don't believe that she forgot who she was or had no memories after. I think she was just attempting to hide out out of embarrassment or shame (and take a much needed break from her family troubles - which I cannot blame her for).
found this channel today and i am absolutely loving these unsolved mysteries and duo of Ryan and Shane. this is what i will be binge watching for a while now.
The series finale: The strange murder of Shane Madej. A solo episode where Ryan stares concerningly vacant into the camera every time it cuts to him, a slightly suspicious red substance is still on his shirt. Shane is no where to be found
Ricky Goldsworth doesn't kill. A corpse won't remember his name and he'd definitely make sure his victims live to do so. Whether they'd want to or not.
For post-mortem: I've had severe depression most of my life. At the worst point, I got off work one day, got into my car, and started driving until I was in a different state (6 hours). These things happen with mental illness. I don't buy memory loss, but admiting to a breakdown in the 1920s would have killed her career. Mental illness wasn't understood; it was a weakness of character. She had to say something to save face.
I think she may have been trying to confront the mistress, but under all the stress, she snapped on the way there and tried to drive off the road, but it brought her back to reality, and decided to just take a break from it all, and decided to lie for the reasons you stated. Either that or the same thing but instead of looking for the mistress she was just straight up looking for a vacay.
She's the type of person to do stuff out of spite, and honestly, good for her. I love that energy. I think she needed a break and also wanted to humiliate her cheating husband, so that's exactly what she did; staged a mysterious disappearance, went to a hotel using the mistress's last name and had a great time. Iconic. Good for her.
She hit her head in a car accident during an attempted suicide after suffering from depression, grief, insomnia and the collapse of her marriage. And remember those cars had basically zero safety standards so any accident, even one we would consider minor today, could be disastrous. I absolutely believe her account. Being hit in the head causes memory problems - its a thing people know about. That she had something of a mental break beforehand probably didn't help matters. TBH, her story doesn't sound that strange to me.
Especially the detail of her being so open about her despair and suicide attempt.. People just didn’t own up to stuff like that, back then.. And it shows a frankness that’s hard to dispute.. I’m just glad she got herself together and led a remarkable life afterwards.. I’ve a big fan of hers..
agreed! my mother entered a fugue state after discovering her husband cheating. she had to be hospitalized for a while to cope with the emotional trauma. agatha's story is absolutely plausible!

Shane: "WhAaAt??" amazing. awesome. astounding. breathtaking, extraordinary, remarkable, staggering ep
I think she’s telling the truth, and I think that solely because she was an incredibly skilled *mystery novel* author. Honestly! If she were to make up a story, it’d probably be far more believable than the explanation she had.
i agree, though the only thing i'm having trouble with is how come she ended up exactly at the spa she said she wanted to go to before losing her memory, and where did the new identity come from (especially having the same last name as her husband's mistress, that seems fishy)
Honestly I think this is my theory. I wonder if what was written in the letter to her husband would have been incriminating and aligning with the disappearance narrative.
I’m very much inclined to believe her. What she was going through at the time sounds very much conducive to a mental breakdown or dissociative episode, the latter of which the people of the period wouldn’t have had an actual term for. Plus, I’m happy to hear that things turned out well for her and she died peacefully at such an old age. Good for her, yo. Might check out some of her works after this.
For Post Mortem: what if she had staged her own disappearance for research for a novel? Maybe she wanted to see what would happen if she made her case almost as simple as possible. She was in the place she said she would be; she didn’t wear an elaborate disguise. All she did was put on a different name and party. Maybe she got tired of her life and wanted a short escape without seeming like a bad mother for abandoning her daughter. I think she might have wanted to see how easy she could make a case before people would solve it.
Yeah, I have thought of that as well. Maybe she run out of ideas and wanted to experience it before writing her novel. It is obvious since her novel was about a blue train.
Post mortem: Is it possible she wrote the letter about going to the Spa but actually had the intention of killing herself and the when she hit her head she was like "What was I doing? Oh yes going to a Spa." Seems less crazy then some of these other theories. Ps: I love you guys.

Just because she writes mysteries doesn’t mean everything that’s ever happened to her has some ulterior motive
it’s a mystery because she claims she doesn’t remember anything after the accident and swore she was mrs. neele until she got home …. like huh? 🧐
@@LoveLee_Dreamer You'd be surprised
Like Walter White!
Dissociative fugue doesn’t really fit since she was able to make it to her goal destination of the spa.

But instead of planning it, it happened unconsciously and she wanted to get rid of this life, which is why it may also have taken her a little time to remember this life too.

the vid said she learned to read because she was understimulated. and it seems like beyond that she had a pretty great relationship with her mother. also writing mystery novels because her sister thought she couldn't? i think that was probably a push to do something she maybe has always wanted to do.

Also, why would she use his lover's surname as an alias if this was really a revenge?

the way Shane says "my heart breaks for this woman" at 21:57 is so bittersweet
For Post Mortem: Not exactly a question, BUT-
Christie wrote a semi-autobiographical novel called "Unfinished Portrait" that was published in 1934 in which the protagonist (Celia) loses her mother (with whom she was very close) and soon after discovers her husband was cheating on her.

For people who don’t understand how writing more than 2 books a year is impressive:
Most books, especially debuts, can take all from a year to 10 years based on the author.

But I started something last summer based upon a small theory about Jack the Ripper and now as I have nearly finished book 1 I decided to work on a stand alone. If they are published I would hope for them to be released the same year as I am really enjoying writing them, and I love all the characters
As an aspiring writer myself, I feel the need to compliment you on how well written this comment was! ♥︎

That's my theory too, tbh. And I wouldn't blame her in the slightest.
Sometimes people just need to get away from it all, it ain't _that_ deep.

Exactly what I said. She probably had a nanny.

The most singlehandedly British thing to happen during a missing persons case is definitely for the police to attempt to enlist the help of the victim’s dog. Everything Shane said about British nonchalant-cy was so accurate.

I agree. I think it was simply a mental breakdown. I'm not a psychiatrist obviously so I have no idea if what she experienced is consistent with a mental breakdown but that is what it sounded like to me. She was overwhelmed and felt the sudden urge to get away.

i honestly think she “disappeared” out of spite to see how her husband would react. it seems like a lot of her actions were motivated by her wanting to prove people wrong, or just in spite of them. her mom didn’t want her to learn how to read, so she taught herself in spite of that. her sister said she could never write a mystery, so she did in spite of that.

@@kendallreynolds5216 Not even Kidding... I thinking of Doing that when I feel like I want to write a Masterpiece Novel...😅😅😅
That is pretty good theory, she deserved that self care week

Oh the irony
Post Mortem: This sounds like case of dissociative fugue. People who expirience it suddenly leave their home and their lives. Because they suffer from amnesia, they come up with new identity. This usually lasts few days, but there were cases of people with dissociative fugue that started completely new life :new family, job, identity. It's usually caused by trauma or severe stress like all dissociative disorders.
That's such a good idea!
But then what about the letters that family received?
@@shivanshgarg2687 yeah I couldn't explain that either.
Trauma from Archie.
Agatha Christie taught me that spite is stronger than love could ever be.
I’m currently writing a dark fantasy novel that I fear won’t be good enough for publishing, so that sweet message was indeed very encouraging!!

@The running man you must be fun at parties.

[Edit] okay I definitely want them to talk about this in Post Mortem…. but this sounds like full blown dissociative fugue.
“Dissociative fugue is a psychiatric disorder characterized by amnesia coupled with sudden unexpected travel away from the individual's usual surroundings and denial of all memory of [their] whereabouts during the period of wandering.”
“One or more episodes of amnesia in which the inability to recall some or all of one's past and either the loss of one's identity or the formation of a new identity occur with sudden, unexpected, purposeful travel away from home.”
This is usually brought on by emotional trauma like the death of a loved one. With her mom passing, her husband having an affair, and a suicide attempt, I’d say she had quite a bit of trauma that could trigger this. Her forming a new identity also leads me to believe this
Yep it's like a textbook case and certainly the most plausible, especially given all her stress

or did she pull a walter white and act like she was in a fugue state but was actually just taking time to herself to chill
@@idomytaxes3850 I don’t think she would do that to her daughter
for post mortem: she could’ve had a manic episode triggered by the death of her mom and archie’s affair the episode could’ve also triggered the memory loss that was initially caused from the car crash. i dont think she would pull a stunt to expose archie or to boost sales because her theory of memory loss has risks of the public deeming her as mentally ill, i think the risk of pulling a stunt like that outweighs the benefit so i think it was a genuine episode.
This is possible. People often lose a couple days during an episode
And to think she believes her name was Neele that is the same as her ex-husband’s mistress, you could really tell it took a huge toll on her.
What as that moment when he said watch your mouth to Shane, that was awkward

Wait that’s a really good theory!! Maybe you can get a q + a???
Nope. She forgot her memories. Look up dissociative fugue.

Ricky Goldsworth doesn't kill. A corpse won't remember his name and he'd definitely make sure his victims live to do so. Whether they'd want to or not.
No, we can see Shane in the background as the manikin, not moving at all and just staring blankly at the camera
She had to say something to save face.
huh, that's an interesting theory. i could believe that. mental illness was a taboo topic back then, wasn't it?
I hope youre doing better these days:(
I think she may have been trying to confront the mistress, but under all the stress, she snapped on the way there and tried to drive off the road, but it brought her back to reality, and decided to just take a break from it all, and decided to lie for the reasons you stated.

So... Agatha Christie almost pulled a Gone Girl, basically.
Lmao yesss

Gone Girl the book was a tribute to Agatha Christie

No, she pulled an Agatha Christie.
I think she might have wanted to see how easy she could make a case before people would solve it.
this doesn’t seem likely but i gotta say that i love that theory
