What are the spaces at the bottom made of? Foam? Wood? sizes in directions? what are required lengths of spacers.

What is the gsm of the paper?
Gsm stands for "Grams per Square Meter" to denote the thickness of the paper. For ease of visualization, you can understand the thickness of ordinary writing paper is about 70-80 gsm. Paper for making paper-cut light boxes is 160-220gsm, which means it is 2-3 times thicker than writing paper. This paper is often used to make cards, pop-ups.

What are the sizes for each layer? I would assume it couldn't be the same size for each layer, can it?
Yes. it consists of 4 layers corresponding to 4 boxes, the size gradually decreases from outside to inside. The outer layer has the largest size of 12x10x10cm.
How did you install the lights?
I use a led light, put it in a box, it will light up the paper box. You can create your own lamp base, as long as the light is strong enough. This product is not fussy about lamps, be creative as you like.
