Serious question, who would I have to sue to challenge the Supreme Court decision that corporations are people and contributions are free speech based on the fact that this dilutes my/our vote giving me and other individuals less influence in our democracy leading to policies that directly harm us and our abilities to fully utilize our constitutional rights?

if it was by popular vote the only states that would matter are California, New York and maybe Texas or Florida. Do you really want 3 or 4 states to determine every election ? Thats why the electoral college was formed.

In my country we vote in areas for a party / Member of Parliament, the party that gets the most Members of Parliament forms the Government. Some people want proportional representation. which would essentially be popular vote, but it is hard to see how it would work here. No one system is perfect I suppose.

      Where I live… (NZ)
      - voting is promoted, never obstructed
      - registration is free, never made difficult to achieve
      - voter identification cards are sent out before every election to fast track voting
      - voting stations are everywhere so that wait times are minimal
      - an app (Vote Compass) is provided so that anyone can answer [with degree of agreement responses] policy type questions, and in conclusion, it advises your % alignment with each party (we have many parties)
      - votes are not overridden, most votes win

This does mean however that most often, party coalitions are required (which ensures the majority of the country is represented in government).
Sorry to say but we are shocked at the American system and especially the claims of “greatest democracy”!

That was already decided by the Supreme Court. The case is Rucho vs Common Cause (decided in 2019). The court said that extreme partisan gerrymandering was not something the courts should be concerned with. It’s a political matter not a legal one. So partisan gerrymandering is legal. @@cohoanglervancouverwa6755 it is because, right now, that benefits Republicans. When it hurts them, it will suddenly be totes bad.
However I do NOT trust any political party. Prior to the Dixiecrats fleeing the Party due to the Civil Rights Act, it was the Democratic Party that was... unpleasant and fascistic. I can't guarantee that will not flip back. So I'd rather trust neither party, but do state (later federal) constitutional amendments to expand voting access, make gerrymandering a felony (40 year prison term plus massive fines) and more, to prevent another hit job like Project REDMAP. No politician should get to choose their voters.
Protecting voter access at the at the state constitutional level will do more to eliminate fascism, and nuke a lot of stupidity, than keeping stupid gerrymanders around. We get enough states on the same page, and we can do a national amendment to protect an American's right to vote. Also, if we're really lucky, we'd be able to get a corporation defined not as a person but as a non-corporeal entity that possesses only limited rights, and one of those is not dumping cash to buy politicians.

Right now, the best FL and TX can hope for is a surprise victory in key areas that end up kicking GOPers out of having the power to determine everything that happens in those states simply because they turned districts into spaghetti to try and enshrine their rule. In both states, too, they are making the place a hell hole full of theocratic educational land mines, so I have no doubt at least a few people who would vote blue are leaving to protect either their careers, their kids, or both.

We must see now that the evils of racism, economic exploitation and militarism are all tied together… you can’t really get rid of one without getting rid of the others… the whole structure of American life must be changed. Capitalism wants an oligarchy, wants to disenfranchise people and weaken democracy, wants to have workers be slave labor, as they're doing now. For instance, how do you tame inflation? Lower prices, lower profit margins, higher wages all work against inflation. But what does the Fed do? Raise interest rates which helps banks,, credit card companies, mortgage companies, etc.and hurts ordinary people.

      * In person at an early voting centre
      * If you’re overseas during the referendum period, you may be able to vote at an overseas voting centre or by post.
      * AEC mobile polling teams will visit voters who are not able to get to a polling place. Mobile polling teams will visit some residential care facilities and
remote areas of Australia. Mobile polling will be carried out around Australia during the referendum period.
      * Voters who are blind or have low vision can cast a vote using our dedicated phone service from any location.
      * Voters living with a disability may also be eligible to cast their vote by post, or can vote with assistance at a polling place.
      * If on polling day you are outside the state or territory where you are enrolled, you will need to vote at an interstate voting centre.
With an independent electoral commission and mandatory voting, gerrymandering or obstructing voting procedures is very difficult.

Most were young first time voters so you know they were anti-trump. They fired the supervisor but it wasn’t a fair vote. I imagine this plays out in many districts. Clerk said she couldn’t get to them despite the fact they had ample time to process them. Also question the judge’s allegiance here - twice he has ruled in favor of Republicans despite the deliberate oppression of new voters. I wish someone could look into these cowtowns for corruption.

I live in New York State, and it surprised me to learn just how much of the state is designated red. Of course, land doesn't vote, nor do cows and horses, and the four or five blue areas are where you'd expect; Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, possibly Syracuse, and, of course, the largest urban population on the East Coast of the North American continent. But just outside of NYC, on Long Island, in Westchester, and Rockland, where I live, it's red, because of the large amount of professionals living here and working in the city. Still, as I noted, land does not vote, and Fishs Eddy definitely has fewer registered voters overall than there are people in the average graduating class of a Brooklyn high school. So the state is almost guaranteed to be blue in national elections, but locally, the red is not to be discounted.

I would love to see an episode like Marc mentioned around how to improve voting in NY. I lived in NYC for 5 years and was astounded at how bad its voter laws were, even compared to my home state of Arizona which has had permanent mail in voting for decades. Would love to see episodes like that for like the 3 worst states! Love the idea

Thank you, Marc Elias, for all your work in getting so many illegally-gerrymandered district maps redrawn across so many states. You rock!!

Ohio is shameless in it's gerrymandering. Sure wish the US Congress could have passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Thank you Marc Elias for all that you and your team do to help keep our democracy.

I’m so glad we have mail in voting here in Oregon. It’s so easy. It’s fun, actually! Although usually I drop off my ballot at the library or wherever instead of mailing it in

They aren't. There is nothing but hate and division in every aspect of life now. You can literally comment that a human baby or any baby animal is cute on social media and someone will come along with a hateful negative comment that puts yours down. It really gotten bad. We have no civility anymore.
