I want to learn web dev like this ! tell me abou what the other things are like : lastCompletedTs , lastPlayedTs , restoringfromLocalStorage ? And how are the helpful or y are they used ?
Not really, they could have kept it server-side until you solve something, that way you can't cheat They probably put it on local storage purposefully, it saves some requests to the server (saving a few bucks and making the game respond faster) and it's not like it's a big problem that people are cheating in this game If they encrypted it but still kept it on the client-side (the browser), one of two things would happen: 1: If your browser can't decrypt it, there would be no way to know you solved something 2: If your browser can decrypt it, so can you, your browser is in local machine, which means they key it's using to decrypt is also in your local machine, just search for the key and you can easily cheat again
Or... Fail on your phone real quick and then enter the solution on your computer... But cheating in a word game is really nonsensical and it just means you don't enjoy the game
I was trying to make a Wordle knockoff (just for fun and practice, not money), and I thought the best solution would be to hash the solution, then have the client send their guess to the server to be hashed, and then compare the hashes to see if the person’s guess was correct. It’s more work on the server side, but there’s no way to cheat. I didn’t expect the real Wordle to have the solution plainly visible.
@TomNook. Yeah... Is there a way to send a hashing function/module to the client? I don't, but I'm fairly inexperienced with programming a real website. That's the only way I can think of that would allow comparing the word of the day with the user's guess without giving away the word of the day in the browser dev tools.
@postingbmwm3, I recognize that. The site was to get some experience. I'm at a novice level looking to move to intermediate. Website security is one of the fuzzy areas I don't have experience with, but want to get right.
Yeah, I’ve found all kinds of info this way, but anyone that cheats on a game like this-or any game-is ridiculous. Why play a game if there’s no intrinsic reward? People who cheat to look better or smarter are embarrassing themselves.
OMG, I cannot unsee this! 😆
I am very sorry 😂🤣
I got it just by open up the application section after clicking F12.
@TheCoderCoder Pls Phone

I have been using this trick to flex on my friends
its not cheating, its just Code Crime
I'm on phone so I can't use it. Either way I won't use since there isn't really any point to cheat on a Web game that you can only play once a day
I want to learn web dev like this ! tell me abou what the other things are like :

how can i unsee this?
I bet the first guy who found this. is just looking at how the game works. then accidentally found the answer.
came here after hear Ryan cheat on Wordle
Welcome back! I feel they could have used some sort of encryption when storing the solution. It seems like an oversight.
Not really, they could have kept it server-side until you solve something, that way you can't cheat
They probably put it on local storage purposefully, it saves some requests to the server (saving a few bucks and making the game respond faster) and it's not like it's a big problem that people are cheating in this game
If they encrypted it but still kept it on the client-side (the browser), one of two things would happen:
1: If your browser can't decrypt it, there would be no way to know you solved something
2: If your browser can decrypt it, so can you, your browser is in local machine, which means they key it's using to decrypt is also in your local machine, just search for the key and you can easily cheat again
@anarcus or you just save it hashed. When you enter a word your computer hashes your answer locally and compares it to the stored hash.
nice from Indonesia
my f12 does airplane mode pls help
helpful
Just use private browser
I love u 😁😁🤩
muhehehehe
Or... Fail on your phone real quick and then enter the solution on your computer... But cheating in a word game is really nonsensical and it just means you don't enjoy the game
What’s f12???

I was very surprised when I discovered this! Your way sounds much more secure 😂
Not the best solution for server costs though

Your average user won’t bother doing this. People play this for fun so there is no harm in storing in local storage.
@postingbmwm3, I recognize that. The site was to get some experience. I'm at a novice level looking to move to intermediate. Website security is one of the fuzzy areas I don't have experience with, but want to get right.
Mine is pause
Yeah unfortunately this is possible and it is a more likely chance to get spoiled
👍I got it
Nice :v
Android Users Be Like:
It's not working there is no option of local storage😑
I found it under the "Application" tab in Chrome
Word. As a Muslim I may slide the money under the door
Hi 👋🏻 Mam
How to format the HTML codes ? In Vs code. Any Shortcuts ?
@Sahil Bhaskar Thank you Sir 😃
Or just google it
But what about if it is mobile app
You can’t
Yeah, I’ve found all kinds of info this way, but anyone that cheats on a game like this-or any game-is ridiculous. Why play a game if there’s no intrinsic reward? People who cheat to look better or smarter are embarrassing themselves.
What???
WHAT BROWSER DO YOU use?
She's using firefox
@anarcus woah firefox looks good
Awful! Losers so competitive they have to cheat to win! At worse it shows some like to ruin the game for others who play fairly.
Coder coder. You're terrible 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes, let’s show people how to cheat on a game some people take seriously…
What about on an iphone?
You can’t
i think this is dependent on the site your paying wordle on, this won’t work for the ny times wordle
I was looking on this just now and scratching my head at why can't I see the answer haha
