I LOVED this film! Watched almost all Oscar nominated films and this was my favorite film. I watched the entire credits in the small theater that everyone else had left. The Japanese word at the very end. Keep watching. I listen to the soundtrack all the time.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I've been trying to explain the feeling that can only be described with the last scene in this movie. Where he has every reason in the world to feel terrible. So many things could be weighing him down. But his favorite song come on. And its a beautiful sunny day and it's a nice drive. And he start smiling and laughing. I've never cried so much at a movie theater. Thank You so much for this movie. With love from Ohio
Love this movie. Saw it twice in two days. I wasn't familiar with the short story referenced in the movie by the main character's niece, so looked it up and went back to rewatch the film. Let me tell you, knowing the plot of the short story "Terrapin" adds great weight to not only the niece's storyline, but also the main character's back story as well. It's quite easy to see why he may have isolated himself the way he did.
The director is the best person to listen to about the backstory. And in fact he said there is none. Well, it was scribbled on a piece of paper. It’s basically open to interpretation which makes it all the better.
@@ryo85764 yeah, it’s vital to be grateful for what you have. But I can clearly see that the message of this movie is different. You will be lonely toilet cleaner and be happy. Maybe that’s because of context. 100 years later it could be viewed differently.
I’m fully aware of all the agendas the elite want to push forward and am totally against it all.. But, this film isn’t necessarily that. It’s pretty much expanding on Buddhist concepts of happiness ultimately residing within and not using materialism and status to be your source of happiness when it is fleeting and not a genuine source to begin with.

thank you😄

A lot of my friends have ‘bucketlists’. Not something I want. I’m happy like this guy.
