Hey Kwan, Im thinking of completing an advanced diploma in mining engineering in cambrian collage (because they offer a 3 month long paid co-op in the 6th semister) and then work in a mining job for about 6-12 months to save up money to continue with bachelors in geological engineering or complete my bachelors in mining engineering with the credit transfer system and then do masters in mining engineering. So do you think completing advanced diploma in mining engineering and then completing bachelors and masters in mining engineering is a better option or completing an advanced diploma in mining engineering and then doing bachelors in geological engineering at university of Saskatchewan and then masters in geological engineering. Im thinking that going with the bachelors and masters in geological engineering will give me more job options to choose from but I also think that completing masters in mining engineering will earn me more money in the long run. I would like to know what you think about and what would you suggest me to do.
if you want to work in mining engineering , all you need is a bachelors degree (at least in Canada). If you want to do geotechnical engineering, then you will need bachelors, and likely a masters as well. For optimizing pay, the industry matters more than the discipline you choose; however i do recommend the mining route as you're more likely to advance into management if you stay with one company.
hi am wondering in what capacity are pipefitters used in the mining industry particularly when it comes to metals mining and the milling/mine construction in particular. got my plumbing red seal now going for pipefitting these next two years but when i look at job postings from large publicly traded companies in metals mining they tend to look for millwrights or process plant technicians.
i know in oilsands, pipes are very important not just in the processing plants, but for the tailings piplines that goes in the in tailings dump/disposal areas. You can try looking at jobs at suncor/syncrude/imperial oil/cnrl
