I'll echo the gratitude. I just setup a 6 tier rack in my kitchen, 2 shelves of which im devoting to microgreens. This channel's vids have been a big help. BTW, I did have to rig up a short 4'w x 2't curtain though, to reduce the lateral glare.

Tap water from Lake Lavon has, interestingly-enough, an EC of 1.2 and if the chlorine in tap water bothers you, just leave it in the shallow tray open to the air for 24 hours and it bubbles out.

I have had those Blue Lab pens go out of sync on me as much as .8 side by side with another, right after a fresh calibration. We were trying to discover the issue with a nutrient lockout we were suffering. It is always a good idea to keep the pH litmus strips handy as a backup test. It's great to see you guys use both. 👍

Cheap pH Testing: For those who are uncomfortable with titration, or for whom a digital pH meter is too expensive, a less expensive 3rd option to consider are disposeable "pH 0-14 Universal Test Strips". Which only cost 5-10 cents apiece, and are accurate to roughly +/- 0.5. As long as you're in the 6-7 range, you're probably fine, esp if you're using coco coir, which is very mildly acidic. Theyre easy to use ... just dip, wait 30 sec, then look up the color pattern of the 4 tiny reagent pads to get the result. Amazon sells them in packs of 100 for $5-12 or so, depending on brand.
I really love your videos a bit of a suggestion though on mixing your nutrients completely use a small submergible water pump just drop it in there so it’s on the bottom plug it in and let it run
Polypropylene itself is food grade, but the release agents used in injection molding are not usually food grade unless specifically requested you should never rely on the plastic recycling designation to determine if an object is food grade.
You need a Paint Stir Stick 12" to 14" long. They are cheap, and you may get a few free by asking for them at your nearest paint store, they may give you the 12" ones instead but hey it's free.

Thank you so much for the support and kind words! We usually just mist them with regular water during the germination process. Once the roots are developed enough and the plants are slightly bigger we will introduce nutrients. It is usually around the time they are about to go in the light... So depending on the crop variety it's around days 3 to 6. Thank you again for the support!
It seems like a lot when you first get started, but really it happens very quickly after you've got the hang of it. We can make a nutrient reservoir in about a minute or less. We just did it really slow for this video...

Great video guys! I assume that you usually check the ppm cause you have the meter, but you didn't show it on the video. How many ppm do you usually aim for after putting in the nutrients? Is it RO water?... most of the recommended concentrations on the back of nutrient bottles are done taking into account that people are using water with 0ppm to begin with. Some filters might not reduce the ppm of your tap water that much, and if your water is pretty hard to begin with, the recommended dosis of nutrients would have to be reduced :P
I was waiting for someone to ask about that :P Yeah, it totally slipped my mind while doing this video to show the PPM. So we do not use RO water because of how inefficient the process is... It really creates a lot of waste water so we opted for a simple filtration system that is hooked up to our triple sink. You are correct and our PPM out of the filter is usually around 300-400ppm and after we add nutrients, we are around the 900-1200 mark usually. We also use a lot of different nutrients so we haven't had the time to really sit down and dial dosages in yet... We will be playing with PPM experiments soon hopefully! Thank you for the support!! What kind of filter do you use for water? Have you ever checked the chlorine and fluoride after it has run through the filter? If not, that could be easily done by taking a sample to your local water treatment plant. I would be interested in seeing how much reduction you get post filter vs pre filter. Since micro greens are only on this earth for a maximum of about three weeks, I don’t want to bother with pH or EC or ppm And everything seems to grow just fine.
We have a Berkeley water filter in our home that we love, but in this space we use a different single stage filter that is hooked up to the bottom of our sink! We will be upgrading it to a multi stage filter next year most likely!
Just started looking at your videos and its gold mine of information if you want to start your micro green journey. I am from Ontario, Canada and it's hard to find the same products here but would appreciate if you can suggest alternative to Ocean solution liquid fertilizer. This would really help me to build my own set at home. BTW, keep up the good work :)
What's the TDS or EC reading of the nutrient you use? We can't get the Ocean Solution here in South East Asia so I'm wondering if it will be the same feeding with regular hydroponic solution and want to know how concentrated it needs to be. Thank you and great question! You could grow with that, but I would use that to grow an entire rack most likely. It is a bit overkill for microgreens which don’t need a lot of light. They would probably love it though!
bruh .... I have watched so many videos on ur channel .... I just need one info and then I can start as well (just so that I do not start from 0) ok: AFTER the germination is done and you put them under the light: how often do you water the trays untill u harvest them ? 2 times per day ? a cup of solution per day .... hose it down once per day and let the water drain ? P.S. ok ..... I got a bit ahead of myself .... at about 11:00 you mentioned watering .... I need some more patience lol, tnx mate.
Thanks for watching! We do about 1 cup of water twice a day, as needed! sometimes you may not need as much water due to higher humidity, whether or not you have fans, things like that! If I had them I would already been doing it) " videos, there is not a lot of people showing the behind the scenes part of growing like in a few of your videos. Honestly, we don't believe a lot of money is needed to start a business. Choose 3 to 4 varieties you love to grow and use and talk about. Set up a Grow rack made of whatever you have on hand at first! Find people to sell to! Give away a few samples to get them hooked! Figure out a schedule for growing and delivering! Really, starting smaller and growing your business as you learn is better for people new to this business. We don't add Cal or Mag anymore... We used to add some epsom to it, but we noticed that it may have been negatively effecting germination on some of the crops. Plants do prefer different pH and temperature/light/etc... but we have found that most do really well when the pH is between the 5.5-6.0 range. It keeps it simple for watering.
Two quick questions... what filter have you found works best to remove chlorine and, would this same watering and nutrient process work with plant starts in soil before transplanting? Thank you for you awesome vids and willingness to share!

Great video! Just curious...I always thought you had to pH the water before you add the nutrients. As I understand it the nutrients will not dilute well with the water if the pH is incorrect to start with.

Does it impact yield, taste, or some other crop health metric? You might consider doing a control test video. I sure would be interested. Thank you for the support! We have done plenty of experiments with pH balanced water versus Nutrient water, and adding the right nutrients always increases the crops appearance, growth, taste and yields.

Most pH down solutions are natural! They are primarily minerals extracted from the earth and then mixed with water. So they are natural, but because of rules around “organic”, they can’t be considered “organic”. They are “of the earth”. We will try experimenting with some more types in the future maybe!
I have been using filtered organic lemon juice and it seems to work well. For my filtered well water it takes 1 Tbsp. per gallon to get the PH down to 5.8.
Hi guys, I put one teaspoon of maxigrow I bought from your amazon link into 1 gallon of distilled water. It took the pH from a nice 5.8 to about 3.8! Is that normal? Now I need to by pH up and down unless I can use my pool ph up and down chemicals.
Yeah, some hydroponic solutions will change the pH of the water. There are natural ways to change the pH such and lemons/baking soda/vinegar/egg shells. If you need to raise it, do a very, very small amount of baking soda. Like less than a pinch. Too much baking soda will add too much sodium, and it really doesn’t take a lot to raise the pH. It depends on your water. Even if the pH is 8.0, the composition of minerals varies compared the the composition of minerals in my local water. Get a cheap pH testing kit if you can and just start to work your way down slowly. Like 1mL at a time
Great question Kimberly! We have noticed that basically everything does well with the 5.5-6.0 pH range for water, especially when we add fertilizer to the water. We've grown probably 50 different varieties with that pH and all have been successful. That's not to say that some may do slightly better with more acidic or more basic. If we we any trouble with a crop, we will start playing with factors like pH to see if we can get better growth... Hope that helps!

I've watched a lot of your videos, and I have a lot of notes saved on my whatsapp conversation with myself hahaha I have an question (maybe a stupid one): I pretend to test and use the Spagnum Jiffy, they say that the Ph is around 5.5 ~ 6.0, and the EC is 0,40 mS/cm I could use only the filtered water? If so, there is the need to verify everyday the Ph from that filtered water? Sounds confusing to me haha Thanks so much for all the content! Much love!
Yes! There are actually quite a few out there. We have used some such as MaxiGro, MasterBlend, Sea-90 and more. Search your local hydroponic shop for water soluble nutrients! 🤗🌱🌱
Depends on the water source… our PPM starts around 500 and ends up around 1000 after adding the nutrients from the last time I checked. Changes throughout the year as the water source changes… hope that helps!

I cannot remember on this video exactly, but usually our PPM is around 1200 with nutrients added. Our tap water is about 400-600ppm out of the filter. Hope that helps!
Great Question! It is not required, but we have noticed in all of our tests that it makes the growth faster and can effect the flavor and appearance positively as well. It will grow fine without it though...
PPM doesn't really tell you anything, just how much "stuff" is in your water. That "stuff" could be beneficial, like trace minerals, or it could be detrimental, like fluoride. You'll still want to use the nutrients, but if you want to know more about what is in your tap water, your free city water report will tell you that information, no need to test it on your own.

In our experience, Yes! Not sure if this is a question or a comment, but I'll do my best to address it. In our space, we've found that we have to water amaranth significantly less... Anytime that we've kept our amaranth saturated for the entire duration of the grow, we get dampen off. So, we water a lot less because of that and the medium will dry out a little... So, in our space, we get the best results when growing it by letting it dry out a little. Hope that helps!
Amaranth is like the boss battle of microgreens. I've died twice on it but I'm still putting quarters in the machine! I bet a lot of people could use a strategy guide though.

You need a five gallon paint paddle to stir your water.

Great video guys! I assume that you usually check the ppm cause you have the meter, but you didn't show it on the video. How many ppm do you usually aim for after putting in the nutrients? Is it RO water?... most of the recommended concentrations on the back of nutrient bottles are done taking into account that people are using water with 0ppm to begin with. Some filters might not reduce the ppm of your tap water that much, and if your water is pretty hard to begin with, the recommended dosis of nutrients would have to be reduced :P

Yeah, it totally slipped my mind while doing this video to show the PPM. So we do not use RO water because of how inefficient the process is... It really creates a lot of waste water so we opted for a simple filtration system that is hooked up to our triple sink. You are correct and our PPM out of the filter is usually around 300-400ppm and after we add nutrients, we are around the 900-1200 mark usually. We also use a lot of different nutrients so we haven't had the time to really sit down and dial dosages in yet... We will be playing with PPM experiments soon hopefully! Thank you for the support!! What kind of filter do you use for water? Have you ever checked the chlorine and fluoride after it has run through the filter? If not, that could be easily done by taking a sample to your local water treatment plant. I would be interested in seeing how much reduction you get post filter vs pre filter.

Since micro greens are only on this earth for a maximum of about three weeks, I don’t want to bother with pH or EC or ppm And everything seems to grow just fine.
We like to because we get better results when we do.

We have a Berkeley water filter in our home that we love, but in this space we use a different single stage filter that is hooked up to the bottom of our sink! We will be upgrading it to a multi stage filter next year most likely!
Just started looking at your videos and its gold mine of information if you want to start your micro green journey. I am from Ontario, Canada and it's hard to find the same products here but would appreciate if you can suggest alternative to Ocean solution liquid fertilizer. What's the TDS or EC reading of the nutrient you use? We can't get the Ocean Solution here in South East Asia so I'm wondering if it will be the same feeding with regular hydroponic solution and want to know how concentrated it needs to be.

Hi! How many ounces per gallon of water if I’m using Maxigrow instead of ocean solution?
I’m pretty sure it’s 1/2tsp per gallon with MaxiGro! Double check the measurements on the back for suggested dosage and use the minimum for micros!
Thanks for all your great videos. I'm learning (and buying) so much! In looking at the water filter you've recommended, it doesn't appear to remove fluoride. Do you remove fluoride through another method, or has it not been an issue?
My concern about seeagri and ocean solution is that it contains all the minerals and metals including lead aluminium and arsenic
Using it and eating the product on a daily basis concerns me with long term health issues

Just what I needed as to what nutrients and PH is needed....does adding nutrients also help to grow more difficult harvesting seeds? and a general question...I am getting more serious as a grower, should I transition from window light to the whole rack and grow lights for constant stable results? Thank you and great question! You could grow with that, but I would use that to grow an entire rack most likely. It is a bit overkill for microgreens which don’t need a lot of light. They would probably love it though!
What about electro conductivity (EC) of your solution ? Which level do you use ?
bruh .... I have watched so many videos on ur channel .... I just need one info and then I can start as well (just so that I do not start from 0) ok: AFTER the germination is done and you put them under the light: how often do you water the trays untill u harvest them ? 2 times per day ? a cup of solution per day .... hose it down once per day and let the water drain ?
P.S. ok ..... I got a bit ahead of myself .... at about 11:00 you mentioned watering .... I need some more patience lol, tnx mate.
Thanks for watching! We do about 1 cup of water twice a day, as needed! sometimes you may not need as much water due to higher humidity, whether or not you have fans, things like that! If I had them I would already been doing it) " videos, there is not a lot of people showing the behind the scenes part of growing like in a few of your videos. Honestly, we don't believe a lot of money is needed to start a business. Choose 3 to 4 varieties you love to grow and use and talk about. Set up a Grow rack made of whatever you have on hand at first! Find people to sell to! Give away a few samples to get them hooked! Figure out a schedule for growing and delivering! Really, starting smaller and growing your business as you learn is better for people new to this business. Do you add Cal or Mag at any point? Also, won't different plants like different PH or are microgreens all pretty similar?
We don't add Cal or Mag anymore... We used to add some epsom to it, but we noticed that it may have been negatively effecting germination on some of the crops.
Plants do prefer different pH and temperature/light/etc... but we have found that most do really well when the pH is between the 5.5-6.0 range. It keeps it simple for watering.
Could you adjust PH with Apple cider vinegar? or would that introduce other unwanted things
If the roots are constantly underwater doesn't that kill the plants don't they end up overwatered
Why don't you guys use humic acid? It's organic and you don't have to use pH reducer like literal acid

At our previous house, we used a bigger 3-stage water filtration system and this little filter seems to do just as well as it did.
I think that this would absolutely help with starts! Just make sure with plant starts that you aren't stretching them like you would microgreens.

Great video! Just curious...I always thought you had to pH the water before you add the nutrients. As I understand it the nutrients will not dilute well with the water if the pH is incorrect to start with.

Super helpful video! How would you assess the benefit of using nutrient-added water from day 3 on vs. using only PH balanced water from start to finish? Thank you for the support! We have done plenty of experiments with pH balanced water versus Nutrient water, and adding the right nutrients always increases the crops appearance, growth, taste and yields.

Most pH down solutions are natural! They are primarily minerals extracted from the earth and then mixed with water. So they are natural, but because of rules around “organic”, they can’t be considered “organic”. They are “of the earth”. We will try experimenting with some more types in the future maybe!

Hey, by the way, your pH meter will last many times longer, if you rinse the sensor off in de-ionized water and dry in between uses.
I have been using filtered organic lemon juice and it seems to work well. For my filtered well water it takes 1 Tbsp. per gallon to get the PH down to 5.8.

Hi guys, I put one teaspoon of maxigrow I bought from your amazon link into 1 gallon of distilled water. It took the pH from a nice 5.8 to about 3.8! Is that normal? Now I need to by pH up and down unless I can use my pool ph up and down chemicals.
Yeah, some hydroponic solutions will change the pH of the water. There are natural ways to change the pH such and lemons/baking soda/vinegar/egg shells. If you need to raise it, do a very, very small amount of baking soda. Like less than a pinch. Too much baking soda will add too much sodium, and it really doesn’t take a lot to raise the pH.

It depends on your water. Even if the pH is 8.0, the composition of minerals varies compared the the composition of minerals in my local water.
Get a cheap pH testing kit if you can and just start to work your way down slowly. Like 1mL at a time
For example, ours takes three milliliters of phosphoric acid to bring ours down from 8.0 to the 5.7range

Great question Kimberly! We have noticed that basically everything does well with the 5.5-6.0 pH range for water, especially when we add fertilizer to the water. We've grown probably 50 different varieties with that pH and all have been successful. That's not to say that some may do slightly better with more acidic or more basic. If we we any trouble with a crop, we will start playing with factors like pH to see if we can get better growth... Hope that helps!

Yes! There are actually quite a few out there. We have used some such as MaxiGro, MasterBlend, Sea-90 and more. Search your local hydroponic shop for water soluble nutrients! 🤗🌱🌱

Depends on the water source… our PPM starts around 500 and ends up around 1000 after adding the nutrients from the last time I checked. Changes throughout the year as the water source changes… hope that helps!

I cannot remember on this video exactly, but usually our PPM is around 1200 with nutrients added. Our tap water is about 400-600ppm out of the filter. Hope that helps!
When using COCO , is liquid fertilizer required?
Great Question! It is not required, but we have noticed in all of our tests that it makes the growth faster and can effect the flavor and appearance positively as well. It will grow fine without it though...

my ppm is around 180 in austin...does the water ppm matter if my micros are getting their nutrients from soil?
PPM doesn't really tell you anything, just how much "stuff" is in your water. That "stuff" could be beneficial, like trace minerals, or it could be detrimental, like fluoride. You'll still want to use the nutrients, but if you want to know more about what is in your tap water, your free city water report will tell you that information, no need to test it on your own.

It was also really easy to setup and didn't mess with the flow-rate of our water. We use ours to reduce the fluoride in our city water... Personally, I always like to have some kind of filter to reduce the fluoride in water, even when watering our outdoor crops!
You can even just call it a dropper.

The Amaranth prefers to dry out a little...
In our experience, Yes! Not sure if this is a question or a comment, but I'll do my best to address it. In our space, we've found that we have to water amaranth significantly less... Anytime that we've kept our amaranth saturated for the entire duration of the grow, we get dampen off. So, we water a lot less because of that and the medium will dry out a little... So, in our space, we get the best results when growing it by letting it dry out a little. Hope that helps!

Amaranth is like the boss battle of microgreens. I've died twice on it but I'm still putting quarters in the machine! I bet a lot of people could use a strategy guide though.

Yes, but it is quite minor. We use it to mix and it doesn’t raise it much from that process
