what a fantastic video, i feel like this was made for me! i recently planted a serrata bluebird and an oakleaf snowflake on my balcony garden. annie's blue would have been perfect. i have a paniculata little lime, and i have my eye on a climbing hydrangea too. i think i could grow them in containers in my balcony with some careful pruning 😁

This is the first year I’ve seen buds on my oak leafs. I banished them to the outskirts of my garden and left them to fend for themselves. Maybe, that’s the trick.

I keep my Endless Summer in a container and it seems to do much better. I did cover it when we had that late frost in GA 7b but I also covered my other macrophyllas. My Dear Delores have no buds right now and my ES does! Hopefully Delores will give me flowers later in the season.

Mt. CUBA did a hydrangea trial. Their top recommendation is Hydrangea arborescens 'Haas Halo'. I couldn't find it in Greenville SC but ordered it from White Flower Farms last fall. Maybe it will bloom next year. It is small but thriving.

Oh wow thank you for this tour! Helpful to see the size the little honey I just planted is capable of reaching!
Jetstream looks fantastic - how many years until it hits the labeled 5'x4' size, and how vigorous is it after it reaches that size? I'm looking to replace an unhealthy unknown specimen with something that would eventually fill an 8ft wide space. I would control size with pruning after that.

I’ve had Jetstream planted for 5-6 years (I think) and it’s about 4’ tall and wide with no pruning

It’s those one out of five years when the macrophyllas actually bloom well that keep me growing them. Hydrangea hope springs eternal. 😂
If you haven’t tried hydrangea quercifolia Gatsby Moon, add it to your list. So beautiful!

There is a farmhouse in Davidson, NC (north of Charlotte) with the most beautiful hydrangeas in front of their house! I'm still looking for a hydrangea that performs well at my house.
