What a wonderful video. I am so happy there is a place for all the stray dogs in Costa Rica. Do they spay and neuter them? There are programs in Costa Rica to provide free spay & neutering. If you get down near Dominical, I would highly recommend you visiting Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary. I volunteer there in winter months. They do amazing work taking care of sick and injured animals-sloths, monkeys, toucans, anteaters, etc. Their goal is to release them back into the wild but if that is not possible they keep them there in the Sanctuary. The director's name is Loyal. Safe travels!

Oh my god my heart was in my mouth with those roads, aw those gorgeous dogs we’ve got 5 dogs, 3 huskies, a white German shepherd, and a shepherd cross, unfortunately I’m in a adjustable bed but we have to have a baby gate so they can’t come in where I am because they would be too hyper for me and knock me over and in the last 12 to 18 months I’ve broke my hand and was in plaster for 6 weeks, then fell and broke my finger, I’ve got a plate and pins in my ankle after I fell downstairs, I’ve got positional vertigo which means I fall a lot, thoroughly enjoyed the video, so goodnight to you two take care until the next time xx

I love you guys! What a fantastic sanctuary, wow! Trent, in Kanab Utah there is Best Friends where the doggies & cats roam free as well as other critters but seriously, I enjoyed this video so much and the lush area you are in looks so inviting.Trent, a great way to revive a stale baguette is rub the outside with water and pop it in a low oven-I freeze mine and revive them this way since I only shop maybe twice a month or make my own. The cool nights must be a welcome as we are sweltering here. xoxoxo

Well done for making this video, I saw the documentary on Netflix about that sanctuary and it showed the dogs in a very poor light. The mange problem seemed out of control and it was lovely see them look very healthy. Thank you xx
I honestly felt that the Netflix video really was not fair. Seemed like they wanted to put in something controversial in order to make it more interesting. I lived in CR for 7 years, & knew Lya Battle when she was just starting the shelter up in the mountains. Lya had a place down in the city where she rehab'd dogs off the street--spay/neuter, get them healthy & vaccinated--figure out their personality-- then try to ge them adopted out. Then the drop offs started out numbering the ones adopted out by a lot so they started the dog farm up in the mountains. I volunteered with many different groups & vets on Spay & Neuter clinics -so knew a lot of vets, but Lya was always around to help when I found another stray & needed extra help. I used her vets several times for new strays. She was always only about caring for the animals--not the money behind it. She did as much as she could for all animals--not just the ones in her care, but any animal that needed help! I saw first hand the horrid ways some animals were treated before they enacted the law against animal abuse. People would adopt a dog/tie it up & not feed it at all! They would say it made them meaner & a better guard dog. When the animal abuse law went into effect, people like that just dumped the dogs out onto the street. Those animals are the ones that took her from 300 dogs to 1300 dogs! Many of those dogs never knew consistent food/shelter/decency, let alone love and reason to trust. Lya took them all in & now they are all happy. No many are not all healthy yet, but it takes many months to get rid of mange. So yes some of the dogs look bad, but they are being treated. SOmeone dumped a Sharpet dog on the street because it was sick. THe dog got so infected that it's rings of loose skin grew up around over it's eyes & ears. She found it after it had backed itself into a corner of an alley-- so sick, starving & dehydrated. We always joked that Lya would even pay to give a dog a face-lift if they needed it because she paid to have the surgery it needed to debrid all that dead skin. Result~ I only know Lya, her husband & all the people working & living with those dogs as the utmost in caring, and doing all they can for them. If U have money to donate, please do!

I’d just like to say to the first person that I do volunteer and donate to organization in my home town in the U.S.. However, it never hurts to reach out a helping hand to other amazing shelters around the world!!! An animal in need is the same no matter where they live. Hopefully there is some kind of spay and neuter program for the dogs they can’t take in so the problem doesn’t keep growing like wildfire. Costa Rica has countless grass root castration events organized by VOLUNTEERS all over the country where veterinarians come from San Jose out to rural areas and offer castration at a reduced rate. I volunteered for years, we picked up street dogs as well, many I paid for, plus we educate the locals of the benefits of castration. As far as the number of dogs you have the exact same issue in all countries but other countries like Trent said kill dogs, perfectly healthy dogs are killed to reduce the population so you don't see large groups of dogs living at shelters or on the streets.

I heard about a cat farm in the U.S. that had houses for the cats and lots of room to roam in the wild. They would for a fee take them to come in when their owners died. This allowed them the finances to take in strays as well. It was a comfort to the owners knowing that their cats would be cared for when they were gone. I've dreamed of doing that with dogs but wondered what the legality and the expense would be in the U.S. It would be such a great option. Your channel inspires us all. Thank you for that!!
Aww... I love this video. I would want to take them all home. We just rescue a 3-week old kitten that some hurt and was threatening to kill.her. She was so sick from infection, we didn't think she would make it. But with a lot of love and making sure she ate every couple of hours. She is now all healed and running like a normal 🐱, who we love dearly.

Remember when on one of your episodes US vs Mex and red tape? You are right . I dont understand why there is not a dog refuge in every country in the world. And i will never stop telling you that your.vlog is amazing, inspiring, eye opening, culture learning, and world changing. Really Allie, Trent and Frank there are no other vlogers that are as eloquent, edicational, amazing content, and inspirstional than you guys. Everyday i look forward to my Trent and Allie time ( yes Nomadic Movement too) . Thank you to both of you for inspiring us to sell the van and change our plans to an RV instead. This way someone else can drive the RV to our chosen location and I never have to deal with the PTSD. (leftover reaction from near fatal car accident). Besides it seems that van life is mostly a young persons game with a pace that is constantly go go go. When we're settled with the RV I promise to invite you to come try it out. Who knows, maybe an RV will be in your future as well :) Thank you and safe journeys!
Three Cavaliers and a Cat Bob Wells says class c, are a lot less trouble than vans or schoolies, they are made to be lived in, toilet, shower, bed, stove, micro, oven etc.

1300 Dogs, that's a ton of dogs. $800 a day food bill, that's a lot of money. They all looked happy though. How do they keep them from fighting when the pack leaders go home at night? 😀

So many canine in one facility.
My family visited a Westie rescue near Magnolia Texas and I was absolutely amazed at the quantity of dogs on that site, basically a backyard full of dogs needing a real home. We took home the one that sat at my feet 🦶 and discovered the best pet ever...until we rescued another...

This dog segment was your best on-the-road work. You gave a good flavor of the people by actually interviewing someone and highlighting a particular segment of the CR world. Who knew that a coastal country full of rain would be fighting over water rights. It wasn't about you two in front of the camera. This short segment is award-worthy. (Btw, I immediately thought of the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary while watching this).
You guys are amazing. This “Old Dog” (me) is learning a lot from you younger folks. Love all your videos. Thanks for the virtual field trip into this place. What a great thing to do for the strays. Best dogs we have ever had over the years are the ones we rescued.

Stayed in San Pedro La Laguna for 3 months last winter ,fed a pack of 7 dogs , so sad to leave them in a place where street dogs are considered vermin! Can only make a small difference in the lives of these dogs!
