    Omg I feel this is the best! His soft voice suits better than original. I used to be a huge fan of pumpkins but after a while I realized it was too focused on Billy.

      Same reason why I stopped buying their albums because it was moreso Billy's ego and his direction of where the band was to go. Rubbed everyone in the band wrong and so it did to the fans. James has a good voice and can write songs too, but it's hard to focus on one member of the band when Billy seems to be the dark cloud that hovers over the other members when they engage into their other (outside) projects.

    So so so good! Beauteous, even. He's singing great here, playing great here, looks great here, I love his shirt...and I can share all the nostalgia and happiness of the obvious Pumpkins fans who obviously love James in the audience. All in all this is one rad video.

    Same way that smashing pumpkins style has changed and evolved, I definitely find some appreciation for this version. It definitely feels the song feels his too and there is a delicate but present emotion attached to it.
    Also for the people saying that Billy wrote it. Also Billy said that the writing process involved James and D’Arcy and that the magic happened when all of them were together. Even for the amount of shit people give to D’Arcy, he said she was the moral compass of the band and the one with better sense of musicality so even her had a strong influence on the sound of the pumpkins. He had his fights with them but it doesn’t make it less real.
    And if only for the trillion times he must have played this song, the song is his to play too.

    James is not a great singer... but that is not what matters. Thier music shaped my life and helped me through the hardest of times. I love James, and all of them so very much. Smashing Pumpkins forever 🧡

    That looks an awful lot like Scott Lucas in the background. I guess he was invited to play with them because it's in Chicago? Thanks for uploading this!

    Not that Scott Lucas isn't good enough to play with them anywhere, it's just Local H is based in Chicago, so that's why I figured he's there.

    Would be nice if Iha and Corgan would grow up and put aside their differences....

    • @quasar1490
      @quasar1490 9 лет назад +6

      It sure would. I think Corgan might have an issue with sharing song credits. He's definitely old school in that regard. If he writes the lyrics and chord structure then his is the sole name that gets credit. Thus he gets all the royalties. Therefore forget about dynamic percussion that changes the original idea into something grand and forget about the other guitarist who contributes melodic ideas that get used. This was for decades the way songwriting credits/ royalties were handled. The Doors never functioned that way and most bands ( even ones with one primary songwriter ) haven't gone that greedy route for some time now. It's now fairly democratic, from what I've researched. The person who writes the lyrics and chords takes home over half and the contributors get their cut - plus their name in the credit. Corgan hasn't shared a credit in The Pumpkins on an actual song since probably 'Siamese Dream' or 'AFH'. Maybe this is why people don't want to stay in his band. The 'Oceania' lineup was awesome. Maybe this is why Corgan will continue to revamp the lineup.

      Quasar k Agreed. I read an article years ago suggesting BC was a world class pain in the ass so I am sure that has something to do with it. Jealousy, fame, etc. always tends to erode friendships when these bands make it big. Its obvious BC is most of the talent with the song writing, but lets face it, SP have not sounded the same since Iha and Chamberlin split. Even though they were not the writers, they left their mark with the songs sound. I think they have gotten to the point where they could never be in the same band unless it was for some one off gig. And the more I think about it, the more I do not like the idea, the memory is always better than the reality.

      Sugar Johnson I would almost prefer it if Corgan could put Zwan back together. Saw The Pumpkins twice in the early 90's but didn't catch Zwan. Their one album still blows my mind ( except for track 10 - ' Baby Let's Rock.') Otherwise it's one of my favorite 'Corgan' albums.

    Love ya, James - I do. Even bought "Look to the Sky". Would come see you any day of the week at a show nearby. But, man - just stick to your songs... why not do "Take Me Down", "The Boy", "The Bells" or "Blew Away"? Would work 10x better and I'm sure the SP geeks in the room would be just as happy to hear that instead.
