Someone needs to video document the engineering, logistics of moving the Ole Girl ,, and Her history of the design .....in a series .... I would buy PPV to support !
@@BattleshipTexas So happy to hear this will happen! Definitely a historic event that should be documented and I think this will also go along way to help get the word out about this historic ship. I would love to see all the details about what was involved in the whole dry dock project in a documentary. I'm in Australia but if I lived in the area I would volunteer to help. So grateful that there is such a committed team working hard to preserve her.
As a WWII-era history buff, I’m very excited to see her on the move! I was a teenager when I started researching the New York-class battleships and since Texas is the sole survivor, it has a special place in my heart. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to drop by when she’s all done!
I'm so happy to see her being taken care of. My Father served on her during WW2 in the Pacific. Wish he was still here to see this. God Bless and good luck
Thanks for the update Battleship Texas! The entitlement some of these commenters think they are owed is mind boggling. Be thankful the ship is getting dry docked. Be thankful this channel exist & keeps you updated about it. And be thankful for the hard work these folks put into bringing you this content when they do. But mostly, quit you whining.
God bless Everyone involved with taking care of our Battleship Texas. Praying for a safe and successful journey for her and the crew to Galveston. 🙏🙏💖💖
To all the crew, volunteers and support contractors! You’re doing a great job and we all appreciate your tremendous efforts to save this grand old lady! Thank you!
I think you’ve made it clear....crystal as a matter of fact, that videos and live updates are not your priority. Carry on with your work of getting the ole girl to dry dock sir.....you’re doing a great job.
Having lived in Houston many years, I can't imagine working in a metal ship in August - that's simply unsurvivable for more than short periods of time. Doing back-breaking work in those conditions is nothing short of insane.
dont worry about the updates. worry about that lovely ship! there are other youtubers you can feed updates to. tom scott the older one comes to mind. cant wait to see the mighty texas after dry docking! sounds like shes in good hands. bravo on all the hard work and dedication!!!
Thank you Travis for the detailed update. So exciting to know she is going to get the care and attention she deserves. Much appreciation to you and all involved for the love, sweat and tears in getting her this far.
You guys do an awsome job! We will be watching here in the UK though it will be around midday when things get moving over there. I know texas is spoken fondly of this side of the pond when I've been to museums over here. Shame warspite wasn't kept as a museum. All the best everyone and the texas herself 😁👍
As a native Houstonian and former Bo'sun I love what you're doing. I have fond memories of visiting her with my dad and taking my own kids as well. I've put ships in drydock before and I can say this is an incredible undertaking. I can only imagine how she's gonna look below the water line.
Always love seeing the updates, and we're wishing you all the best with the upcoming move to drydock! Y'all be sure to get some rest. Travis is so fuzzy that he forgot there are 5,280 ft in a mile.
You can't help but feel Pride when you saw the Texas move out of its permanent birth into the Ship Channel on its Voyage to Galveston. After it's Rehabilitation it'd be nice to see perhaps them birth it in Corpus Christi, next to the Lexington for about a year. This would allow citizens who live in Central and West Texas the ability to see this Mighty ship. Imagine the USS Texas and the USS Lexington, next to each other in Corpus Christi bay? This will allow hundreds of thousands of Texans have never had the ability to drive all the way to Southeast Texas to see this wonderful mighty Dreadnought battleship. It's a sad fact it's sister ship the USS New York, is no longer viable due to nuclear testing and used as a target ship prior to the Korean war. Just Imagine these two wonderful ships side by side.
As a kid (1960s'), I lived in Galveston, Tx. in the summertime, due to my real father living there. My father was a world-class Tool & Die Maker. Richard Cobb. Dad had an Apartment near the American National building. The place we lived in is still there. The red building at the corner of Postoffice St. & 20th St., on the second floor, on the corner, overlooking, Postoffice & 20th. The spring that I came down just after my 17th birthday, he handed me my Tool & Die Journeymen's Card. And become another world-class Tool & Die, Maker. I love Galveston! I hated Illinois! Where I am still today, and still hating it here! After being married, I really tried hard to move back to Galveston in the early 80s'. I worked for VANSKIKE SECURITY, INC. and a gun shop called GUNSMOKE. But it wasn't enough for my wife and I couldn't really blame her after coming from working for JOHN DEER HARVESTER. But I loved Harry and Nancy Vanskike, even though Harry was a first-class prick, who once took me out to a Wanch Barge, in the middle of the Gulf, and left me there for 10 &1/2 days and 11 nights. So I digress... I still count Texas as my true home. Because I love Galveston so much. At this point, my life is going through some major changes. My wife of over 45 years won't make another one, and I've been battling bladder cancer for 5 years. But her cancer is on a whole nother level. And lately, I may, or may not, have other issues. At 65, who knows. But if I remain in reasonably good shape after I lose my wife, I'd love to come down there to Galveston, my real home, and help work on the TEXAS. My real name is Michael G. Dawson (Cobb at birth). 309-203-6332
Here's a suggestion for when you are "underway": how about placing some loudspeakers on both sides of the ship, and play some Navy tunes and a few modern song about warships, like Sabaton's "Dreadnoughts".
Problem is with Seawolf park. It’s not free. They charge just to get in. Which is stupid. Texas City Dike is perfect Bayland Island is perfect but having to cross Fred Hartman to get there. Now I know Kemah Boardwalk is a good area even though the ship will be out in the bay but I have a lens that expands. So yeah. But wishing you guys good luck moving the ship out.
maybe you guys should try making a tiktok account for the ship, i think the platform's structure makes it extremely easy to get live updates out (and just content in general). Also, ive noticed several viral tiktoks with millions of views regarding the Texas!
Don't you have bad weather coming in? No matter what hoping smooth move .Love to see as much as possible but as you said your main goal is to get this safety done.
Properly big stuff. Best of luck with the move guys and well done for getting this far! Looking forward to the update after a successful tow and berthing in dry dock!
So do they ever let Navy volunteers come aboard to help with the work load? The USS Missouri would have active, reserve and retired Navy that volunteered to help with the upkeep of the ship. If you already dont do so you might want to incorporate that in order to help the few staff members you have.
Several years ago I got permission from the park manager to fly around the battleship and monument. I got some really great footage. The first time I saw this ship was around 1960 when my Texas history class in JR high did a field trip there
Been there on many field trips. Since I've been grown I've really learned how privileged I was to be able to see the ship up close and in person. Awesome memories!
View from Bayland Island (aka the Baytown marina) will not be ideal for the passage under the bridge... in fact, until it clears the Exxon lagoon just south of the bridge, you might only see the superstructure. Once it clears the lagoon dike wall, you will have a clear (albeit distant) view of everything above the water line.
As I started on another channel, I may be coming down with something 🤒 on the 31st, hopefully, my employer will be understanding. I already have alternate spots where I can photograph this lovely lady as she departs La Porte for the last time.
Hopefully i can catch the ship before it goes under the fred Hartman bridge. I work for the bay houston so i may have a spot that will give me a spectacular view of the tow. 🙂

Never going to happen because the current Hollywood types have absolutely no interest in none message pure entertainment movies and have absolutely no imagination anymore.
Entirely the right thing to do to focus on the safety of the ship first. I'd adore a full livestream of moving her, but if that isn't on the books, it's not on the books. Your lack of employees and funds is a shameful display of the state of Texas towards the ship carrying her name.
