    I purchased two of these mixers. One, 32S-based ecosystem for my church and one 64S-based ecosystem for my band. They are fantastic mixers, and when combined with powered mains and stage monitors, you have a dream live system - easy to set up and tear down. I use Protools for my DAW and am going to see how the 64S works in DAW mode with Protools.
    Great video.

    Good news is they are planning on adding additional fat channel "plugin" style effects/eq/comp etc... and with the Waves plug in server over AVB (soon), we'll be able to run low to no latency live, studio mix, and DAW mix with their plugins... what a fantastic time to be doing this sort of stuff!

  • @AKingRecordings
    @AKingRecordings 6 лет назад +1

    Can you make a video showing how you use this mixer to record to studio 1? What I'm curious about is when you are recording a band, does the mixer work as the interface and does it record each channel of audio separately and simultaneously? So if you have a band and you are using 15 channels, can you record all 15 channels at the same time and each one record to it's own channel in studio 1? I'm in the market to upgrade from my current set up and I'm heavily considering this same set up that I see you are using. really glad to have come across your channel and this video! Thanks for what you do

  • @DMACK1981

    So is this also an audio interface? And can you record directly onto the mixer and then send to your computer via USB? I'm considering the quantum 2 for my home studio (just getting started), but I'm wondering how to incorporate something like the studiolive 16 and the quantum TOGETHER. I just don't know how. Any suggestions would be helpful.

    hey Joe. I'm thinking of buying a Presonus studiolive 24 series 3, but I watched a lot of youtube movies but nobody shows you how the sound of this mixer sounds. i now have an analog mixer the power dynamics pdm s1603, this has always done a good job, only i want to switch to a digital mixer, for my home studio

  • @chrismuir1965
    @chrismuir1965 Год назад

    Hey Joe, great video! Another reason to have a mixer is to bridge the gap between analog and digital production. It also affords the ability to add analog warmth to a digital recording without sacrificing the advantages on mixing in the box. I believe this hybrid concept is being incorporated by more and more studios!

    • @DG-ss1gc
      @DG-ss1gc Год назад

      Your conflating a few different concepts. Those who wish to use analog and mix in the box wouldn’t use this type of interface/mixer. As it is not analog at all
      Most serious studios have their channel strips on racks , Avalon tube preamps for mics, rack effects, synths , all the stuff you might want, but the main thing is so have plenty of channel strip preamps.
      You can then run each of those to a channel on a mixer , the mixer doesn’t add any warmth in my experience you don’t want a zeroed out mixer to add ANYTHING you don’t dial in.
      Then they will have D/A and summing gear to get it in and out of their DAW.
      It’s much easier now to avoid all that and run your channel strips directly into the box using a mixer/audio interface like this presonus. However you don’t want to rely on its preamps unless you are a hobbyist or otherwise can afford better gear for each channel strip.
      All this is a bit superfluous though unless you plan to track a full band all at once, which many home studio producer/engineers strive toward.
      Like the Beatles! Everyone all playing and the studio gets it all recorded perfectly.
      This gets better more efficient use of studio time and really helps with bands not used to recording, but can play well live.
      However, in my opinion for a home studio you are going to be way more successful financially if you have a high quality audio interface , with 2-8 inputs , and at least two Avalon tube preamp channel strips, and the real key is to invest in a few HIgH end microphones a Neumann condenser microphone super cardioid a dynamic (Shure sm7B and or electro voice re)Better to record one at a time or 2 at a time , and have killer mics and preamps.
      Even less experienced musicians will pony up to record with you as they can hear the difference with your gear vs a studio with all the gear needed to record as my mentor would say with his thick accent “RECORD LIKE BEATLE” .
      Just my .02

  • @cankutbayhan

    hey there; i have a lil bit latency in pursuing this issues so i feel like some update would be helpful if you dont mind...so now do we do routing with this digital controller machines? i mean; do they have something like those (analog console style of) preamps in them? or do they only integrate with the software which handles that input providing business within the capability of dedicated soundcard thus being only an interface to make things operate rather smooth...the thing im confused about is that if they have preamps then do they have AD/DAs built in? and if, if so, how good are they, i mean you know is it not the main arguement about soundcards today a) preamp quality b) dsp capabilities...and finally if this right there is the final solution why people go for like crazy for that UADs which i guess is like twice the price...thank you.

    Hi Joe, thanks for the video. I own a Studio Live 16.0.2 and I love it, but lately it is letting me down. The monitor and headphones are giving me no sound. My computer sometimes doesn't recognize the mixer. I was really disappointed with the support on these issues at Presonus website. A lot of people complaining online about it. I even considered replacing it for the Allen & Heath qu-16. My question is, did you had any issues like I did with your previous model, and is it fixed on the series III. I would love your comments on it. Many thanks

    Question Joe - I like your videos by the way, some of the other versions of Studio Live have motorized faders , well maybe I am wrong one place I was looking to buy advertised it had them , are you sure it's only the series III ? Also you talk about DAW - well I don't like Studio One - I switched from Pro Tools to Cubase for a lot of smart reasons, and trying out the Studio DAW did not beat my Cubase but I think this acts as a nice ASIO interface for Cubase also? do you know much about it.. ?

    Hi, I'm not sure if you ever ended up mixing on the board itself, but if you have... Can you run your tracks, from say Pro Tools, out onto the individual channels on the board (say DAW output 1, to channel 1 on the desk, and so on) and process the tracks with the fat channel, etc .. and then print the mix back into the DAW?

Its not at all clear from their vids and website if its any good in the studio, it seems like they're selling it much more to the live/live recording market. Thanks Joe, so, I've been looking at all the options, and I basically am looking for a "hands on" experience, using studio one 3 in the studio. And it does seem like there are a million options from presonus, do I go with a rack mixer and cs18AI?, or a quantum with a cs18AI, or some version of the studiolive, of which there seems to be several. I know the series three is the latest, but it doesnt yet have an active DAW mode right? so when it does, will it have layers, so I can control as many channels as I need to in the software? I'm not actually that interested in taking it on the road, although that's a nice feature. its all just ??????s at the moment? Do you have any insights here?

    Joe, I work for my local school district. We had a 24.4.2 donated to us. A big improvement over the analog mixer that we had been using.
    However, the Compressor doesn’t work in any channel. I’ve been in audio for many years, I’m pretty sure that I gave it set correctly, and have the latest firmware update.
    It appears this was a common problem with this mixer. Did you have this problem, if so, how did you fix it.
    I’m putting in a request to replace this v 1 with a new ... PreSonus, Soundcraft, or Allen & Heath. Budget about $2,500.

    Hey Joe, great videos (all of them), I have a Studiolive 16.4.2 and considered upgrading, therefore, beyond the pluses you mentioned, are there other important benefits that YOU feel has been worth the purchase for you? Thanks again for all you do, Rock On Dude!

    I like the concept I just wish there was detailed metering per channel and the ability to clock the audio interface externally ..not really sure how the built in interface compares to higher end converters

      I agree about the metering. Their solution is to use the iPad app and set it to metering or to use the Universal Control software, which has a pretty slick metering readout, but I agree that's not as nice as having all the meters right there in your face.

    Joe for someone want to go into business as a studio eng. This would be great. I don't see myself recording more than 16 instruments and that is really reaching. As of now I only record myself, and producer, mix master, and promote my own music. Can you do a video on why a Faderport 1, 8, and 16 would be more suited for our needs. I just bought a 16. Cassie O'hanlon convinced me to go that route and I need justification. It seems it amy be perfect for me but...

    I own a 16.4.2, pre-AI, and had the Series III been around earlier I might have chosen it over the Allen & Heath Qu-32 I bought a few years later. PreSonus got rid of every shortcoming and idiosyncrasy in the old Studio-Lives with their new stuff. I know of people who eschewed motorized faders just to have the X-max pres, which are super quiet, super linear and super clean. Plus, you buy a PreSonus mixer and they give you everything you need except mics and monitors for giggin' and recording. That DAW button, by the way, is hyper-cool.

    W - is tha actual live sound better than the older generations?
    I remember it to be pretty bad compared to many of the equals at the time, such as soundcraft si and the X32.

      The preamps are the same. But with the new fat channel stuff the EQ's and comps sound way better.

    Nice options and mixer, thinking about this mixer for our church but at 2:22 seems like faders respond late after the touch of the mix buttons. Is there an option to speed up the faders in settings? Also when faders move, is the clicking noise normally that loud or is the mic close to the board picking it up?
    Thanks for these videos as i cannot test mixer myself because local guitar center and Samash music stores still don't have a demo to try.

    • @HomeStudioCorner
      @HomeStudioCorner  6 лет назад

      Nope, can't speed up the faders. Doesn't seem slow to me, but I've not used tons of other digital boards. Not sure if that's a problem though in a real session or performance, right?
      All faders make noise when they move, but it's probably exaggerated a little bit with the audio from this video.

      Joe Gilder thanks for a quick response but I just came across an interesting reply from Rick Naqvi from Presonus when someone else asked a few questions about the mixer and that was one of the questions when he had the Sweetwater video for the series 3 mixer, Rick said the faders have an adjustable response time under master settings so you can set them up the way you like. This is great news, maybe this will help you out as well. Thanks again.

      So can you get the sliders to act more like the X32/Soundcraft desks? Would speeding them up increase wear+tear?

    I don't understand how all these "newer" boards are coming out with this technology now when the Tascam DM3200 which is a much older board and no longer in production, has had motorized faders, DAW control, 32 ch I/O interface, surround mixing capabilities, 100% flexible routing and more since it's release in 2005. Why is it that these companies are just catching up with this technology?

    • @HomeStudioCorner
      @HomeStudioCorner  6 лет назад +3

      Not sure. There must be some reason the DM3200 was discontinued. :)

      Just a small opinion: I guess TASCAM and many other brands are great companies but BAD in marketing 😁 whereas Presonus & Focusrite particularly are very smart in reaching wide range of customers and they know how to put delicious "marketing flavors and spices" that make the their things like WOW plus their competitive prices and the way they listen to customers, interact with them, update products based on customer needs, etc.

      Tascam sold the company to Gibson (bad idea) and Gibson felt that the industry was moving to more of a piece by piece, a la cart type work flow where you would have everything separate as opposed to having an all-in-one mixer. I do understand that there are a lot of people working that way now, however there are a lot that like the tactile nature of a mixer and the ability to have your pre's, monitors section, control surface, etc, all-in-one. I happen to own a DM3200 and love it and there a lot of guys that do as well and are hoping that Gibson/Tascam gets their act together and relaunches a new DM series.

    Thanks for your video. I really enjoyed how you can explain so clearly everything I need to know to my level of understanding. I can't say that I have true professional experience when it comes to recording. But, I really want to learn. Presonus is the only company making hardware that will allow one to do both live stage and recording studio platforms. It almost seems that you don't need to purchase full rack hardware anymore. One can simply invest in a mixer similar to yours and have purchase Studio One. So there you have it your very one one stop shop recording and live sound rig. Now my question to you is, can I just buy the RML32AI rack and do everything via touch screen PC? Please share your thoughts I'd like to know your opinion.
