There is nothing wrong with it. You have to press and and HOLD the key at the keyfob. So thats the exact reason why you are responsible for clearance around the doors while closing.
Yeah, a kid could try to get in from behind just at the wrong moment and push his hand in there before his/hers foot reaches the sensors so it could be dangerous but as Alexander K. said, if you hold the button while the kid is around the doors it's somewhat your responsibility.
You also can look at it from another perspective. If someone tries to stick his hand into to closing door, you can stop the door by releasing the button at the keyfob. When you slam regular doors they are more hard to catch afterwards ;)

Classically it will park the car in two spots and bang all the doors into the other cars. At least that is my experience with BMW 😜😉😉

AFAIK, the motor controller for the window regulator measures torque applied (current), and will act if it is too high anyways; otherwise you can damage the mechanism.
Also the mechanical gears are out of plastic, so it would break anyway xD

As far as I can remember Tesla disabled the function in the US to close the windows if you close the car by the app/key card (because of safety reasons)
Meanwhile the Kia I drive has the roll up function, but not the roll down one.....Not US tho.... But just whyyyy....
@@steilkurbler4973 Try holding the unlock button for longer, it auto rolls up on lock probably but for rolling down you have to hold the button on most cars.
There were news on this and regulator wanted to disable “Vent” from the app too, but it all works on 2022 M3P in US so far

Actualy, it is very common childrens' fingers getting cought at the central pillar while getting out. 5-6 year olds or older children use to hold the pillar to get out of the booster and the adults forget that and close th front door smoasshing the shilds' fingers So, it is very realistic the side door smashing saucage.
Hi Björn, i am interested in a next try with a pumpkin like a head or upper body through the window. Can you please try this? In my opinion the closing window should stop asap in all cars if there is a resistance, not in the last moment.
Not a good test IMO. The safety systems are suppose to stop when pressure reaches specified amount. Soft sausage is way too soft and doesn't represent the finger. It may look like a finger but no bone is inside.
You skipped the cucumber and carrot parts.

Hello, one thing, I remember that the issue about the safety of the electric windows has been due to a tragic accident.
A child was with his head outside and the drive button, of the old ones, to go up and down was always pressing.
The boy leaned on the button and the windows went up, and since he did not have a pressure sensor, he choked him.
For the following tests, it would be interesting, since I had the doubt with the BMW, I would use a small melon, which better simulates the size of a neck...
Because from what I saw, in the test, the eggplant takes a good beating.
And if your theory that the sensor works at the top is true, it could hurt a child with his head out...

BMW is at an disadvantage in this: Tesla has larger gap dimensions (Spaltmaß) and movement of body parts is not as rigid as on the BMW. Better here, means more wind noise on the road.

Chargeport is different from model 3! What is the benefit of the extra motion?
It isn't extra motion, if you pay attention on video you will see it in one movement. S have different charge port door than 3 and closing mechanism too. In 3 it's one hinge in s it has 2 with different length. And also that mechanism needed for saving change port door from damaging it accidentally

My used car sales guy likes to point out how this BMW design will backfire in the used car market. It is a bit like those big safety bumpers that started looking weird when the new models had integrated bumpers. Nobody wants to look stupid driving outdated car. Huge grills will be replaced with smooth closed front ends. Meanwhile my plastic mould maker is crying because the traditional grills have given him plenty of work.
@@unclezeppy there's big grills that actually look nice and well integrated in the design like the BMW M3 G80, or lots of audi, but man that i7 front is in the top list of most uggly ive ever seen, the rear is fine, way better than the front, the profile is nice too

@@Pus1 Yes, there has been recalls for Tesla vehicles due to the window reversal system taking a little too much force before it activates, so it pinches harder than regulations allows.
Jokes aside, a soft sausage may be too low a threshold to activate the reversal - otherwise you might have too many false positives.
