- The Afsluitdijk is a 32 kilometer (20 mile) long enclosure dam that has protected The Netherlands against the force of water for over 90 years. In the years ahead, Rijkswaterstaat will make the dam ready for the future. This is done by strengthening the Afsluitdijk. This video shows the use of innovations safeguarding the dam from the water. Rijkswaterstaat and contractors are working together towards a safe and sustainable Afsluitdijk.

Will it be open to cyclist in May 2023? Coming from Australia and hope to cycle across the Afsluitdijk.
Unfortunately not, John. It will open for a weekend in July, 1st and 2nd of July, but not in May. It is expected that in 2026 it will be possible to cycle over the entire Afsluitdijk again.

@@MrAdriancooke People are people all over the world. I have watched many video's also. Many people love to tell you what they think of you, however, when you tell them what you think of them... they cannot take criticism. As one of usa saying goes, "people who live in glass houses should not throw stones." Or, "if you cannot take criticism, then you should not give it." So, to get even with you, they make up horrible lies about you and stick the knife in your back while they smile at you to your face. It is what the world has come to. It is everywhere, however the Dutch really seem to enjoy doing it. Then they go to Church. Typical all over the world. It is no wonder we all deserve hell including me. We are just all horrible people hating each other.

Which captions do you refer to, disklamer? We've check the video and you should be able to read them in English.
@@rijkswaterstaat Thanks for your response! I will try to explain it better. The automated captions "interpret" the video as Dutch, so what happens is a translation from Dutch to English, only with the obviously English words not translated.

trein zou niet verkeerd zijn.
Dat is een onderwerp wat meer bij de NS thuis hoort, Martijn. In het (verre) verleden is een spoorlijn over de Afsluitdijk ter sprake gekomen. Als je zoekt op 'spoorlijn over afsluitdijk' kan je hier meer over vinden.

Why do they build in pumps to vent excess water from the Ijsselmeer? It seems a pity that energy has to be used to transport the water, and I wonder why the sluices simply can't be made bigger.
Because rivers flow into it. They are transforming to green energy, are your from America? Did you even watch the whole video?
They expect more inflow from rivers so for when the spil sluices can not handle it they can turn on the pomps.
With storm the water on the sea side can be higher than normal so the time to let water out is less or even absent.
The problem is with the ijsselmeer being too full (thus needing to be emptied) and the northsea having high-tide as well (storm + moon at a critical point) which means you can't empty the country when it's most needed (in case of a disaster) which obviously is a bad thing, thats why extra pumps are welcome. Sea-rise also makes the ijsselmeer unable to empty itself naturally with eb and flow.

Dure grap voor wat regionaal vervoer. Huidige netwerk Amsterdam leeuwarden is immer korter..
Alle grote plaatsen boven A'dam en de gehele noordkop is een ander verhaal.. ook heel veel studenten uit de noordkop die nu iedere dag met een volle bus naar Leeuwarden moeten 😉
@@dannystroo Daarom zeg ik te duur voor REGIONAAL vervoer. ;) Ik snap best dat het voor den helder e.d. korter is maar dat is zo'n beperkt aantal reizigers in vergelijking met de randstad dat weegt gewoon niet op tegen de koste. Als je bereid bent een dergelijke hoeveelheid geld te spenderen kun je net zo goed een brug bij Enkhuizen naar de overkant bouwen, misschien wat duurder maar veel meer draagvlak door het veel grotere aantal reizigers.
NS gaat daar niet over. Dat ligt allemaal in handen van Prorail.

The Afsluitdijk is an important invention. Reference is made to a storm that occurs at most once every 10,000 years. The blocks should be able to survive even that storm. Too bad all these smart men don't know about a recurring natural disaster that our planet is suffering from. This is mentioned in various old books and e.g. also by Plato. That natural disaster is caused by the ninth planet in our solar system that comes close to the sun and planets at high speed every few thousand years. The most famous disaster is the deluge, but also 'the end of times' was caused by that planet. After years of research, I was able to reconstruct a timeline. The next disaster of that great one takes place in the year 7.156. The disaster causes a tidal wave "higher than the highest mountains". Only then will the Afsluitdijk no longer provide sufficient protection. The research can be read as an e-book under the title: Planet 9 = Nibiru.
