I believe Barge cement is some natural thing and it is called Barge after its significant use in boats. That's I assume why it's expensive. My experience is that Barge is meaner shit and really really holds. The material will rip before the glue. Weldwood makes a few dozen products that I've looked at. I use the small bottle on leatherwork and miscellaneous projects. Works more than well enough for my purpose and requirements. I feel about the same as you lately. Good and bad at once.
I tried to pull apart the foam after gluing it with the weldwood and got the same results. I think it's more than strong enough for my purposes. Thanks for the info!
