    In tutorial #1 we learned how the basic piano tumbao rhythm fits with the 2:3 clave. In this next video, we explore different ways to embellish this basic rhythm, how to add more complex elements to the rhythm while still locking in with the 2:3 clave.

    • @vrodriguesmusic
      @vrodriguesmusic  10 лет назад

      Hi Efeoghene! Thanks so much for your comment :) Well, shameless plug here … I've put out an ebook for exactly this purpose - there is nothing technically too difficult in there, an intermediate pianist could easily grasp the material. Have a look and hopefully you will find it helpful:
      www.vanessarodrigues.com/salsa-ebook/
      ruclips.net/video/aV6omvOAKx0/видео.html
      As for tips an guidelines, I'd say, make sure you have a very good grasp of the basic montuno rhythm (covered in my first video: ruclips.net/video/wC3Iq5ImTXE/видео.html ), and listen to groups like El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, and other Puerto Rican Salsa from the 60s & 70s - it's classic and the piano parts are quite straightforward to hear and imitate/play along.

      You're right, it does sound similar ... same key, and similar chord progression although the harmony changes faster in Pueblo Nuevo. But yes, I'm demonstrating the really basic and omnipresent meat and potatoes of montuno playing so it's bound to sound very similar to a lot of traditional Cuban music ...

    • @vrodriguesmusic
      @vrodriguesmusic  10 лет назад +2

      Hi Angel! Thank you for your comment. The exact montuno at 0:18 is in the ebook, and so is the exact rhythmic variation at 4:31; there's also another variation in the book that doesn't appear here that's kind of a mix of the other ones … there are many possibilities for rhythmic variation :)
      *** the ebook takes 4 basic montunos and walks you through detailed variations of them - major vs minor, 2 different possible rhythmic variations, 2:3 & 3:2 clave, some harmonic variations … ***

    Hi all! I just wanted to point out that this particular tumbao is harmonized in 10ths
    (I talk about this concept a bit in the Mala Vida tumbao video, also found on my channel)
    In this video, the G chord and F passing chord are done with the LH in root position and the RH in first inversion, and for the C chord the LH is playing the first inversion and the RH is doing the second inversion.
    Feel free to comment/message me if you have any questions ...

    What a pity you are going through it too fast. For a beginner in that style not helpful at all, as it's not possible to follow you if you aren't doing it step by step, explain which chords you are playing. Otherwise it would be a thumbs up!

    • @vrodriguesmusic
      @vrodriguesmusic  9 лет назад +3

      bucaneromax1 Hi there, thank you for your feedback, and I'm sorry for your frustration.
      I do show the chords I'm using in this video (which are always the same, it's just the rhythm that gets varied) at 1:53
      Truthfully I didn't make these videos for complete beginners, but rather for people who already have a fundamental understanding of chords and play other styles like rock or pop or jazz but were feeling eluded by the rhythmic concepts of salsa ... this is the second video in the series, perhaps the first video would be more helpful:
      ruclips.net/video/wC3Iq5ImTXE/видео.html
      In any case, the good news is that there are tons of resources out there to help you learn basic chord structures, and once you get a handle on that, these videos will be much easier to understand.
      Best wishes to you and thanks again for your comments.
