I can immediately see an improvement to this game. When you draw a fear from the well, you have to guess whose fear it is to win. That way you can still win if you draw your own since you would recognize it. But it gives an interactive chance to win with any draw instead of pure chance.
I think Elyse is correct in her pronunciation of Gevaudan regardless of how the game says it because in the 1700's there was a killer wolf/werewolf in france called The Beast of Gevaudan

There's a lot of weird legal issues with the story. The paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren that did the investigation wrote a book about Annabelle, and filed copyright for "Annabelle the possessed doll" and been handing cease and desist letters out. The court tried to revoke the copyright because you can't copyright "real events" but for them to do it, they would need to, in a court of law, say that It was a "real event" that a doll is haunted by a ghost named Annabelle.

Not that this'll get seen - but this was killing me - unless things changed in the DVD version - when you go to the well of fears you win if you DON'T get your fear. Technically Adam should have won this. Also - yes - Banishment means go to the nearest black hole. Also - "Roll your number to play again" means you are stuck where you are at until you roll your number, almost like a harder to get out of black hole. I used to collect this series and while this was super funny, part of my brain wouldn't shut up about "BUT THE RULES~!"

Yeah, right? Also, Adam had one of each colored keys for the longest time, but was under the impression that the players had to collect all of their realms keys -- he was probably able to go to the well sooner than he actually did. Thank god Lawrence noticed that, haha.

I've LOVED this board game series for years. I played the VHS version in the early 90s. I was THAT cool. Friggen tracking set just right, friends gathered round, I got hot and kissed the tv screen.
I remember my cousins playing this game and letting me watch because I was probably too annoying to let play at that age. This game was locked away in my brain for years without a name, thanks for this Funhaus.
I watched this video a week ago. I’ve been wanting to get it myself so that I could experience the glory that is the Gate Keeper but the cheapest version I found online was $150. Today I walked into a vintage toy shop and there was atmosfear in all its glory for $45. Thank you funhaus and most importantly thank you my gate keeper!
I used to love this game as a kid. It had a different name back then though. (I think it was Nightmare) I'll never forget the jump scare of the lightning and having to call out "Yes my gatekeeper!" Friggin loved that game.

All the monster names in the game are actual names from through out history that relate to them. Like Khufu was the one who commissioned the Pyramids of Giza and Gevaudan is a place in France said to have a giant hound like beast.

Though once you played it, it was the same every time and you could learn the gatekeepers routine super quickly to make the game pointless. Got this DVD version about 9/10 years ago for nostalgias sake and we fuckin loved it. It has like bunch of different random gatekeeper appearances and the dvd gives you them randomly so its different every time. Get 4 or 5 people together, get a bunch of beers in you and this game is fucking fabulous. I got an egyptian mummy version of it too as a secret santa gift, but we've always been too drunk to finish that one
