I remember voting for this back in mid 2010s when I was living in Gresham and they were considering weather or not to even make an express bus, and they chose yes.. so glad!
I've been seeing those new stations pop up, nice to know what they are. Good first step on making transit more accessible, practical, and functional! Now if we could get more crosstowns...
The old one had a few issues - the biggest reason they got the axe was they were built by two different companies that stop working together after the old Soviet Union broke up... Under powered ( over heated ), bad brakes ( Tri Met has to have the brakes reengineered do to the above issue of not being able to buy parts and the driver's bitched about piss poor ventilation in the driver's seating area. Problem solved had they it used them for the city to city - like Portland to Salem, Portland to Mt. Hood or to the Coast - Lincoln City... Instead it was @ $300,000 each of tax funds pissed away....
Needed on 82nd and on Hawthorne... Just to name a couple --- as I said in the past to Tri Met ( when they started to to do away with the older ones) it a great bus to use to run to the out laying town's... Salem, and the Indian Casinos could help off set the off peck hours... Think about it - Mt Hood, Bend, Seaside and Roseburg areas service could really help reduce I-5 traffic.
@Borracho Porrero You don't know Portland! The bus line is #14 it turns right - south on 50th to Foster - travel Foster to @98th before heading back to downtown Portland. Hawthorne ends not at 50th. Just the bus line travel...
I was the very person who was passing out a blueprint of improving Portland and the 10 year homeless plan before this event was ever planned. Save the World -Kids First, the Green Man... Yep, that was my work that was stolen.... My wife sold her art ( painting) to Tom Potter wife... I personally met Ron @ 97... Back when the ship yard ( Portland Port ) was sold to Cascade General... I know a lot of Bull 🐂 shit about the local history of many places.
This could provide a way for them to replace WES without needing to either slow down service severely with regular busses, or remodel the current WES stations to try and accommodate a new MAX Line [which if they did, i would name it either the Black Line (because that's what WES is currently marked as on Trimet Rail Maps) or which ever of Orange/Yellow Lines is discontinued if/when the 2 lines are merged into one].
I'm surprised these buses were not in service In Portland years ago. Eugene has had this type service for some years now. Division street is a rather dangerous street, not that all of Portland is any better. What are if any precautions for safety being taken on this new bus? Not just for passengers but the drivers also.I hope this bus will be a success. What I really wish is that Portland would fix itself, so it wasn't the danger Zone it is.
150 million is chump change by public infra standards. And yet this will improve the lives of 100s of thousands if not millions of people over the next 20 years. Hopefully it becomes a light rail line some day.
Divison street is absolutely AWFUL now to drive on after all the new shitty changes, I literally avoid that entire strip and take Glisan, Burnside or Stark instead!... 🤣😂🤣
At one time long ago Burnside & Glisan were the fastest to go east/west, then Burnside was lost to the light rail and now Glisan is squeezed and slowed to being nearly a waste of time edit: of course Stark always had too many stop lights
@@earthlingjohn So true, I live off of Glisan and it's awful in some spots too with all the new buildouts being done. Burnside can be fast sometimes if your lucky to ride next to a train and hit all the green lights. Stark does have a lot of lights but I think they are spaced out more, the further you head into the numbers but Division is a nightmare now! I dropped a neighbor off at work right off 148th and Division and refused to drive back the same way I came after trying to navigate through that shit show of construction! 🤣😂🤣
It is the full intention of many city planners and civil engineers these days to DELIBERATELY make life as difficult as possible for automobile drivers, in a moralistic crusade to MANIPULATE people into giving up their cars for environmental reasons. They will keep squeezing and squeezing. They are climate zealots who have a collectivist utopian vision for the world that does not include personal transport.

I don't live in Portland Oregon any more I left in 2006. I was born in the great north west my family history is there. I miss it greatly. This new bus is really great. May be when I come for a visit some time I'll ride the max, and new bus. But it all depends on the airlines. To messy to travel. It's great not seeing these rouge idiots disrupting air travel that's a big plus with me. I'm a marine vet 70 year's I don't want to bring out the Vietnam in me. I now live in Florida retired. Be safe out there. 🤓

@@thathobbitlife It is, but because of the advacey for the homeless, and organizations like that they won't be able to deny rides, especially in inclement weather. That's when everybody starts taking advantage. If they don't pay I don't pay.

Nice to see they are bringing back these bus's
Definitely a step in the right direction
Anyone having memories of the articulated busses on the west side back in the 80's~90's ?
They have all of those buses here in Seattle.
Remember they were Volvo at the time
Early '80's Crown/Ikarus, and they weren't as nice as the new ones, and they didn't tweak traffic lights. Rode them in the late '90's.
The old one had a few issues - the biggest reason they got the axe was they were built by two different companies that stop working together after the old Soviet Union broke up...

Now TriMet just needs to work on their light rail system.
Those buses are huge

They are ruining the roads on purpose, they want to manipulate people into giving up their cars.

That's beautiful, until the homeless and the town idiots start riding and causing big problems for the drivers and the passengers.
This new express will require it's own payment type, separate from trimet fares. Or that's what was set up when planning it.

What a waste of money!
And they said ... Federal tax dollars.... which means my money too.
what a scam...
What bullshit!!!! Waste of 152,000,000.
wait til you hear how much we spend on maintaining interstates every year!
