The Substance is a rare gem. It’s one of the better movies to come out in a long time
It's one of those movies that look like they could be set a few decades in the past, what with the vintage cars, retro clothing and tape players. But then we see what appears to be a flat screen on an office desk at 2:10 which is confusing.

Aubrey Plaza is that rare actress who somehow manages to look bored, amused, and slightly disgusted all at the same time. She’s got the eyes of a cat that agreed to sit on your lap-but strictly on its own schedule. She’s the master of the pause: every word she says feels like laziness wrapped in sarcasm. And the best part? We still believe her, even when she’s playing a psycho or a bureaucrat-probably because she seems exactly the same off-camera, just without the script.

@corvo_attano1882honestly, most of the Coen Brothers’ plots haven’t been too complex. The true meat lies in the characters and dialogue, and no matter how much the trailer gives away, you end up having a lot of fun on the ride.
I'm honestly not sure what the plot is from the trailer. You just mean they showed a bunch of scenes and you'd rather it was less specific. It didn't give away the beginning, middle and end - these could've easily all been scenes from the first act of the movie lol

Chris Evans was a good actor before. Playing Captain America was a career defining role that opened him up to SO many more opportunities. I know of other actors past and present who decided to settle into that groove of "playing to type". He could've continued to portray handsome, earnest, do choosers for the rest of his careet, and audiences still would've loved him. Instead he's gone out of his way to play both with AND against it, and I love it. Good guy, bad guy, lead guy, supporting role. He can do it all. And while he's always been funny, he's taking his comedic chops to all new levels.
I like Chris Evans but I'd argue Captain America was more the outlier of his work, it was basically a toned down version of the same characters he always plays since Cap is mostly PG. All the others whether they're a good guy or a bad guy is essentially the same guy. One of the evil boyfriends in Scott Pilgrim is the same mold as his other evil douchebag roles. Johnny Storm? A hero, but kinda a douche and pretty similar to his character in the losers.
I've loved him in everything I've seen. And i definitely haven't seen everything he's in. But i kinda think he doesn't actually have that much range? He's funny and hot and gets along with those he works with and that's certainly some skill to have all come together in Hollywood. But he kinda feels like the eternal frat guy that got enlisted into doing the school play because they needed someone with maxed out charisma

@rapperaslam snowpiercer, yes. But it was unremarkable overall (don't even remember his character). The other two, no. I did say I haven't seen everything. I do think I've seen roughly 80% of his work tho. So still stand by what I said. He does have his own typecast. Still very entertaining just not a good/great actor. Lots of charisma tho, and he interviews amazingly well
