I loved his portrayal as stuttering Louis XIII. He was a great subtle comic relief! Incredible timing and delivery. He showed his strenght of character despite his social anxiety, his speech impediments, the overbearing de Medicis and his complotist brother, his regicide paranoia, tumultuous love life with a Spanish queen (here literally Austrian haha) etc...
If you wonder what the translation of "bègue" Louis was looking for is in English it is "stutterer"/"stammerer". Louis XIII had strong speach impediments but beat them gradually...
He was great as Louis XIII! Any other adaptation of Three musketeers have pretty much ahown Louis XIII as a childish eccentric buffon (much like their book counterpart). But Garrel showed a different side to the character and having read a little about the real Louis XIII, Garrel's performance was more historically accurate and as a result more interesting to me 💯
