yes we get them faulting a lot but not this time first thing we did was disconnect the transformer , the fuses also feed a cable that goes to a overhead line and the insulators on a pole had been damaged by lightning

How many times did he try to reset the transformer with kind of bang I would suspect a fault in the transformer
@@TotallyChilled how did you go about diagnosing that? Is it all visual inspection? Or do you guys just replace the component and check it out later.

first we try replacing the fuses in case it was a bird or branch ect. if they blow we do a 1000 volt megger test on the transformer it was ok ,so we broke jumpers on the overhead line the cable is feeding to see if it was in the first or second half the fuses blew so it was in the first half so we halved that then climbed every pole till we found the pinholes in the insulators

no we broke the jumpers to the first , the fuses feed a cable and on to a thirty span overhead network it was lightning damage on the onsulators on one of the poles

cool it guys , I'v been on the lines over thirty years and I'm still running into new types of faults the fuses actual feed a cable going to a overhead network as well as the transformer and the insulators on a pole had been lighting damaged

That's a bad transformer. On my street this fuse kept blowing and then one day a transformer up the street from me blew, the guy was going to have another guy put another fuse in but I flagged him down and had him change the transformer and everything has worked fine ever since.
Intermittent fault due to bad (deteriorated) insulation.
@@BenjaminEsposti I found that the copper wound transformers seem to last longer than the aluminum wound, I change 5 aluminum to every 1 copper transformers.
never used aluminium wound transformers . we get enough trouble from the aluminium conductors with the salt air next to the sea turning them to powder

Yeah I suppose, but it's still a transformer.
I've seen rectangular ones in the states. They're rare; usually only for three-phase TX's or old old ones from the 50's or earlier.
Some pole transformers in the States are not wired with a cutout fuse, instead there is a circuit breaker inside the transformer. It also has a trip mechanism to semi-permanently trip on overpressure.
In fact the one that powered our house tripped like that; it arced internally but didn't blow the fuse for the street. Instead the power flickered, and went off. The lineman was unable to reset the breaker lever - it prevents the dangerous condition where a lineman may attempt to re-energize a transformer with an internal fault.
