@brandonh1975The sponsors are jokes. Lolol idk how pChal did it but 3500mg of caffeine will kill the human body and giving over the information needed for a company/person to perform identity theft is genius. The "websites" are just redirects to his Patreon and he didn't have sponsors this video.
@omarg2079 I'd argue minimizing the probability of bad outcomes is a combination of calc and statistics, and finding the line is pretty advanced computer science / graph theory. But yes -- you can also brute force it with hundreds of hours of calculator math and logic puzzles. That might even be easier than trying to program an AI to handle the math for you.
@tomc.5704 I really doubt the math is actually that hard. It's just the amount of time it takes to figure out the optimal lines for each fight is just a far bigger investment than what most people that are theoretically capable of doing it would actually be willing to do.
@omarg2079 No math fifth grade math homework has you working out multiple possibilities and preparing for the worst stuff possible, or quite this much. Not to mention, it's only as easy as it is BECAUSE we have a calculator. I couldn't imagine doing it without.
That was like, the original thing about nuzlockes, the OG story had people get INCREDIBLY attached to pokemans, and it was heartbreaking when they died. Run n bun or insanely long challenge run grinds exponentially increase this when you've got what most people would consider an almost guaranteed reset. Hell, if this was completed many more attempts later, Jan absolutely would have reset early on for missing even the weedle encounter. This just goes to show that optimal routes in challenge runs aren't THE only routes. Some pokemon are definitely mainstays for e4 teams but the lackluster encounters he thought he'd found had turned into absolute MVPs of this completion. It's incredibly poetic.
That's the best part. I've always loved Pokémon but I'm pretty new to romhacks since watching Jan's channel. I've been playing through Radical Red and honestly, I'd never have believed of all the pokemon in the national dex of 8 whole generations that I'd become emotionally attached to, and deeply proud of, wait for it.... Yamask and Hariyama - but they're now as iconic to me as Cynthia's Garchomp because of how crucial they were to a razor thin line that got me past certain hurdles. These games are amazing.
So happy for both you and your team, Jan. Thank you for letting us experience your incredible journey through your masterful storytelling. You've inspired me to be a better video creator and Nuzlocker :')
I watched my friend play Tropico 6 the other day. I don't know if there was more flopping in his playthrough (going negative then coming positive, then going negative, etc) or in this video.
Jan, in my humble opinion, this is _the_ magnum opus of Pokémon RUclips content. Three hours and sixteen minutes of wonderfully described, masterfully played Pokémon gameplay, with humor, serious moments, emotion, and even genuine discussion on the philosophy of brutal challenges, and why so many people come back to the boulder. I cannot compliment you enough, for your victory, or for this video. Congratulations, man.
1:11:32 INSANE that Pchal, THE “no attachment” nuzlocks guy, actually unconsciously called Wilhelm by his name in that section. That’s when you know the run was in his heart, and we’re making it with the power-of-friendship plot armor baby.
You and the team made something really special here. I'm genuinely speechless. Proving to us all again why you're still the best nuzlocker in the world
i love to see how much camaraderie the nuzlocke community has for one another. i recently started watching you and squerk because of pchal and whacko. yall are the goats fr
Well that's what Pokemon battles have always been? They're puzzles. Just because the OG games are beatable by a 4 year old child doesnt mean there cant be complex puzzles within the parameters of a pokemon battle.
The last sentence gave me chills “I may not be the best anymore, but goddamn will I earn my seat at the table” Great video PChal, the greatest Nuzlocker
Well he technically built the table, prior to him nuzlocke were in a bad state. So he was the best by virtue of being the first (he was also pretty good)
@XenithShadow agreed thanks and big part to pchal and those other early nuzlockers there was a solid community in place to take advantage of the huge exposure due to Jaiden’s nuzlocke video exploding
"And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about."
@HappyMagolor2 also encounter quality, many EK attempts were reset just because encounters were so trash the game was effectively unbeatable, Run and Bun doesn't seem to really have that issue
It feels almost poetic that despite Jan having planned this video for ages, and working on it for over a year, it still releases at the end of the month
@sirripsalot420 Did you not see his last video? He addresses that, and has been saying that this is his largest scale video eating most of his time. Sure he'll still do sponsors, but not to that dogshit "Nuzlocke Archetype" level again.
He figured out the emotional beats. Jesus Christ. I watched this live, and "just a few more fights, then we scale" was always that joking line holding us together. In this video, it was such a fucking emotional line though. Incredible
There were so many times during the run where we were saying, "are we scaling yet?" or yeah "few more fights/encounters, then we scale." It constantly felt like Jan was getting dogshit encounters too. Felt like after Corviknight, we didn't get anything good until dragapult.
It's so incredible to see how far you've come as both a pokemon player and content creator, Jan. What an amazing video you and your team have put together.
The most stunning thing about this run is that Pchal was forced to use the most trash, useless, terrible pokemon and won with all of them despite that. He took insane lines and won with all of his terrible rng. I do think that even if Pchal isn't the best, he is one of the best simply because of what he accomplished with the one of the most hopeless boxes I have ever seen in a Run and Bun run. Truly impressive work.
Imho, getting the best out of useless Crap without giving up, even getting fueled because you know your luck is terrible is making him one of the Greats. Most others would have reset at some Point.
@zordiark9673damn near everyone would reset at that heracross death, it felt genuinely hopeless at that point, its pretty amazing how his creativity and stubbornness saved that run from the hole multiple times
@Fearless_is_awesome No. You don't get that. You will watch and endure the story as it was intended. You must climb the mountain, for it is only then that you will earn the peak.
I've never heard of you, what this romhack was, had no idea what those ad breaks were about, and probably missed half the inside jokes, but damn that was a watch from end to end. Totally hooked. GG indeed!
Kind of funny how the Emerald Kaizo video had the Celeste music as the intro and we now get a story of Jan confronting his inner demons personified as an alter ego of himself while climbing a mountain.
As someone who’s been following this channel for years, the Pokemon Challenges reaction segment was so incredibly accurate. I know it was just a chance to dunk on yourself, but it really did showcase how far you’ve come as a creator. Sure, it might not ALL be high effort, but passion projects like this video prove it. Just know at least oneRUclips commentator appreciates you in the least parasocial way possible, Jan. Congrats on getting this thing out.
Facts. I haven't been around long enough for the end of the month video jokes to really make sense to me, but this video clearly has a lot of thought and passion put into it. And I really appreciate month video jokes to really make sense to me, but this video clearly has a lot of thought and passion put into it.
Some people just forget that at the end of the day this is a job, and he still needs to pay bills. He can't do things he's passionate about if he doesn't have a roof over his head.
"I'm getting beat up by third graders, it's like I'm in middle school again!" That was an underrated line that took me a second to register. Great stuff, Jan!
@rogierownage I think some places combine elementary and middle schools. But also he could just mean he was getting beat up by third graders in his community at the time he was in middle school.
I am not in this community, I don’t watch twitch, just an old dude who played some Pokemon back in the day. Amazing video. I was literally alone in my room clapping for you at the end. Your genuine reaction was awesome. Congrats!
I love folk like you. Gives me that sense of genuine human connection the internet was made for. I'm laid up in bed, nursing a chronic pain that's had me out of work for months, cheering my fucking heart out alone at 3am along with every other person who truly felt this video and made it to the end. Awesome stuff.
Goddamn man. What a video. A full amine intro, arthouse readings of Siddartha, parody ads, confronting your past self, hoping, coping, staring into the yawning abyss, finding the fun in your work again. This video really does have it all. From the very start of the video, when he said it was his furthest attempt and the video-long analogy to Sisyphus, I was expecting this video to end in a weary, but accepted, failure. I heard the plans and hoped, but accepted it was too good to be true near the end. And then? "I am not Sisyphus" To take the nigh endless chain of bad encounters, pile of bodies, floods of bad RNG, and stray misplays he had, only to leave the meta strats behind and trust that he could succeed by steering whatever the game gave him? And then to ACTUALLY DO IT?! Actual. Factual. *Absolute Cinema*
I think the words of Wolfe Glick after he won EUIC haunted me through this video, every time I thought Jan was in the clear that nagging "But it wasn't enough" popped back in my head with every mix-up he encountered. This video is nothing short of a masterpiece.
"It's tradition to take a pokemon that hasn't been registered in the hall of fame of Run n Bun into the Elite 4, but I'm not in a position to do that" The game: "fine then, I'll force you to. Here's Cresselia!"
After the E4 Jan talked about how many projects people worked on while the stream was on going, and how his life changed during R&B. I started watching the R&B streams through a really tough semester of university, where I honestly didn't know if I was going to continue. Now I'm watching this while I write my honors thesis, a few weeks away from graduation. Thanks for being there while I pushed my boulder.
I watched him through my last trimester of pregnancy, literally while in labor in the hospital, and got to watch him win while healing back home with a new baby. Each journey honestly intensified the other at some moments and I think that's kinda cool, the parallels.
"There’s this emperor, and he asks the shepherd’s boy how many seconds in eternity. And the shepherd’s boy says, ‘There’s this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it and an hour to go around it, and every hundred years a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiseled away, the first second of eternity will have passed.’ You may think that’s a hell of a long time. Personally, I think that’s a hell of a bird."
One of the last moments the show was good, but DAMN if that right there wasn't one of the best moments it ever had. Pchal is indeed one hell of a bird.
This video made me realize two things. Jan can really pull out all the stops when he wants to, and I never, EVER want to play this fucking game. Bravo for sacrificing your mental well-being for our enjoyment o7
I actually recommend people play most of the games Jan challenge runs but just... Don't challenge run them, these games are actually really balanced and well pace in the traditional sense when you play them without Nuzlock rules.
These were exactly my thoughts this whole vid. Playing a game like this seems exhausting. Reminds me of why I'll never go for golden strawberries in Celeste.
@KivaUnderscore This is your future self. I have constructed a time machine to tell you it's not worth it. Please, there are people who still love you. You don't go into the asylum until October, you must stop before then.
the team behind this piece of art created something truly wonderful, i legitimately don't have much to say beyond congratulations on being a part of it
In the nicest possible way it did not feel like 3 hours at all. I usually watch videos in the background and I started with my phone in my hand but very quickly I was locked in
What a masterful video. I thought the entire video it was gonna be a devastating loss in the E4, so when you said "I am pChal, and this is how I beat Run and Bun" i was so hyped. Incredible story telling
"Oh cool can't wait to watch this in several sessions over the next few days", yeah so 3 hours later that didn't happen. Absolutely PHENOMENAL, some of those setups had my jaw drop with how neat they were, and all of this despite getting screwed by encounters over and over, it's like Run and Bun wanted this story to happen. Truly a goat.
I'm so happy the Shoal Cave Egg Heist made it in. One of my absolute favourite moments in Nuzlocke history. All that preparation, the cursed egg, and Chat was there for it 1000%
@KivaUnderscore The cursed egg was left out even from the PChal daily videos. On the 29th of May in 2024, while Dragapult and Dragalge got busy producing eggs for the heist, one egg came out "different." Its shell was miscoloured (orange) and it lacked a preview sprite. Fearing data corruption, Jan banished that egg to Box 5. After the egg heist, he checked up on it. Now, it had a preview sprite. But it was Torterra. In grey scale. Mostly black. This egg was utterly cursed. Jan's reaction: "Hmmmmmm, I should not have checked. We will not check that box anymore." He promised to hatch it, though, after the run was over. On the 31st of August, after Jan ended his run, he made good on his promise and started to hatch the egg. During this process, the egg's preview sprite was either black and white, or it was gone entirely. When checked, the egg's sprite was usually orange or entirely gone. One time, it took the form of a golden Dragapult. It sounds like I'm making this up, but you can see for yourself in the pChal vod of the 31st of August. Also, the egg took ages to hatch (normal for a pseudo-legendary), but at first, we thought that it's unable to hatch. But with the help of Camerupt's heat, the egg eventually hatched. And the cursed egg became a healthy Lvl1 Dreepy.
@KivaUnderscore Seems like YT ate my comment. The cursed egg was an egg that was produced during the preparations for the egg heist. It was discoloured and lacked a preview sprite. Usually, these kinds of eggs are signs of data corruption, and they are able to cause some real damage to your game. So, Jan banished it to Box 5 where it would stay until the run was over. Whenever Jan looked at the egg, it had either no preview sprite or a black and white one. One time it was an f'ed up, black and white Torterra. Jan's reaction: "Hmmm, I should NOT have checked that. We will no longer check that box!" When Jan tried to hatch the egg, it took forever, used a golden Dragapult as its sprite, but eventually, it hatched. The cursed egg became a healthy Dreepy. With no signs of corruption. The cursed egg didn't make it into the pChal Daily videos, but you can find it in the vods on the 29th of May 2024, and on the 31st of August 2024.
The cursed egg is one of the eggs that were laid in preparation for the egg strat to enter Shoal Cave. It had a different colour, and it lacked a preview sprite. Due to these eggs' ability to corrupt data even further, Jan banished it to Box 5. He only checked on it once more before he hatched it after the run was over. During this check, the sprite turned into a greyscale Torterra. When it was time to hatch it, the egg turned black and white, its sprite vanished completely, and it even turned into a golden Dragapult once. It did hatch into a healthy Dreepy, though. Without any signs of corruption. The cursed egg wasn't included in the pChal Daily videos, either. But you can watch the vods (29th of May and 31st of August).
@KivaUnderscore One of the eggs got bugged and became a "bad egg", a common pokemon emulation glitch that can crash the game and a bunch of other stuff. Jan put it away in box #5, and the chat asking to see box 5 the whole rest of the run was a big running gag
I just watched a movie about a man playing a modified version of children’s game that released in 2004. And honestly it was flat out more entertaining and better than some box office films I have watched
You must be much better at picking movies at the theater than me then, cause I'm holding that this is better than 95% of the ones I've seen. The level of pop off we would have done in the theater at the "I am PChal" line would have rivaled captain America wielding Thor's hammer. That's the last time I remember a theater popping off because of just how overwhelmingly excited everyone was.
Dude almost any (insert game) “movie” is better than almost any modern box office release. It’s not hard when the movie standard is as shit as the gaming industry standard. Jan is a really good nuzlocker that can turn it into a better story than most dialogue in modern movies and games. Simple as that. 🤷🏽♂️
As cliche as this sounds, I think this is what Pokemon is all about. Using whatever Pokemon you encountered along your journey regardless if it is the one you like or not, and still find a way to come out on top. Beating the game despite all the sub-optimal stats or encounter is such a feat. Despite all the doubts, he is as he proclaim to be, the best nuzlocker in the world.
Exactly. Strong Pokemon, weak Pokemon-that is only the selfish perception of people. And maybe he didn't win with his favorites like E4 Karen said to, but they were what got him here.
Exactly - but it kinda feels sad that casual Pokemon lacks that level of detail when it comes to planning. It doesn't have to be Run and Bun levels of calcing, but something akin to other RPGs out there that make you think what to bring in say a gauntlet, rather than a one-for-everything solution like a legendary Pokemon. Run and Bun puzzle like nature of planning really felt interesting if it was also in casual mode, albeit toned down.
@rosaria8384 nintendo will never do that... Pokemon has and will always be aimed at children. It sounds greedy and sad but it honestly makes sense. The adults playing pokemon are only playing it because they played it as kids years ago. I have never met a "new" adult pokemon fan. Thats why we wont get dark-gritty pokemon anime or difficult mainline pokemon game. At thats okay. In fact its great. It means we will always have new generations of players keeping the franchise alive. Just last week my nephew asked me how to emulate pokemon games on his phone, I was so happy to help him.
I clicked questioning how a nuzlocke video could justify a 3 hour runtime, and somehow, every segment felt meaningful and engaging. Truly a work of art.
I think the most beautiful and impressive aspect of this run was the amount of adversity and sheer lack of fortune Jan had to overcome. With less than ideal mons to overcome each new challenge, he still found ways to play the hand he was dealt in ways that weren’t only winning, but doing so HANDILY. If that’s not the best Nuzlocker in the world, I don’t know what is.
Man...I'm only 30 minutes in and I'm already blown away by the amazing writing and editing visuals! Absolutely fantastic work my friend, I can already tell this is gonna be my video of the year! 🍿
PChal, this game really broke you, I was genuinely concerned after watching that depressing apology video the other day. 54 people may have finished Run & Bun before, but Nuzlocking isn’t just about skill (that’s for the VCG), Nuzlock is about summoning the resilience to try again after getting crushed for the 100th time. That cuallity is why I admire you so much and why in my eyes, you´ll allways be THE BEST NUZLOCKER IN THE WORLD Lots of love, man. Abrazos from Chile
obsessed with the idea that Jan overcame a Sisyphean task by accepting and leveraging Tantalus' torment (the good encounters are always just out of reach)
I’ve been a fan of Pokemon for my entire life and moments like watching you steer the Wallace fight live are the exact reason why. Absolute cinema. Terrific job
A huge chunk of Jan’s run happened to coincide with my paternity leave last year. Every morning, I’d take my newborn out for a drive because that was the only way to get her to nap. Every day, I would watch the pchal daily video. It was the only peace I would have the entire day. Thanks for an incredible ride, and shoutout to my MVP Wilhelm. ❤
"For a moment, it does feel like there's a seventh member on this team. Watching me." Awww.. I got a emotional at that. Especially when the constellation of heracross showed up. TT^TT
The setup for this is just perfect too. In the Intro he said "this is the story of my furthest attempt into run & bun" had me like 'hol up, somethings wrong XD
From a purely technical standpoint, pChal might not still be the best Nuzlocker in the world, but this is incredibly impressive. This Run & Bun victory only took 5 attempts, and his winning attempt had some of the best steering, best strategizing, and perhaps most importantly, some of the worst RNG I've ever seen in a Pokemon game. His content creation, though, absolutely makes him the best Nuzlocker in the world, bar none. This man did not just earn his seat at the table. There would be no table without him. He built the table everyone else is sitting at, and he just came back with his meal.
@exxm4rine244a “nuzlocker” is someone who plays nuzlockes- a pokemon variant where, to put it in simple terms, you treat any fainted Pokemon as dead, can only catch one Pokemon per route, and then there are other rules you can add like not using items during battle. Run and bun is the name of the romhack of the game he’s playing. A romhack is where someone takes the base game and changes things in it, in this case they focuses on making it very difficult and requiring complex strategies to win.
@exxm4rine244 All of this stuff is explained in the first 2 minutes of the video but: Nuzlocke: permadeath challenge in Pokemon, includes additional rules such as no items and no over leveling Run and Bun: fanmade Pokemon game, the hardest one of all time
"I'm not an influencer trying to sell you a product, I'm not Pokémon Challenges, I'm Jan. For a few fateful minutes, I'm pchal, the best nuzlocker in the world, and this, is how I beat the Pokémon Run & Bun nuzlocke." This line actually got me so hyped. Loved this video the whole way through. Incredible! The best video I have watched in years!
I legit spent the entire video thinking that he failed the run in the end. But then when he said that line, I was locked in. Amazing drama to end the video on
This man was dead serious about making this vid so polished that it became a movie Man fuck all the naysayers, fuck the doubt. You ARE the Best Nuzlocker in the world.
@thomasestling3400 these are the kinds of comments that showcase exactly why Jan hates RUclips commenters. What a pretentious thing to say. Is it still art if it sucks ass? Or just because it's good, in your opinion, now it's art? Just shut up.
Was rewatching this video and I just realized how beautiful it is that Amelia Earhart, a PILOT, is the one to save this run so many times, and be the final Pokemon alive. It's like Pilot the Swellow came back from the dead as this Dragapult to save this run. You could not have written a better story if you tried.
@HappyMagolor2 Didn't even think about this oh my god. What a deeply layered name especially when you consider how Pilot was sniped out of flight by the Slaking Thunder in Emerald Kaizo. The storytelling here is so incredible. Jesus Christ.
The meta commentary in chapter 2 was actually insane. As a long time viewer, I remember both your earlier and where we are now, and it caught me so off guard. Well done! ❤

pChal getting emotionally attached to his Pokemon in this game is the biggest twist of the entire channel
the more invested he got, the more invested I got too...

Glad to see you show up here, CaptainKidd =)
Keep up the good work - also love your appearances on Magic the Noah :D

I watched my friend play Tropico 6 the other day.
I don't know if there was more flopping in his playthrough (going negative then coming positive, then going negative, etc) or in this video.

Oh hi Moxie 🤣🤣🤣
Jan, in my humble opinion, this is _the_ magnum opus of Pokémon RUclips content.
Three hours and sixteen minutes of wonderfully described, masterfully played Pokémon gameplay, with humor, serious moments, emotion, and even genuine discussion on the philosophy of brutal challenges, and why so many people come back to the boulder.
I cannot compliment you enough, for your victory, or for this video. Congratulations, man.

If this video makes you speechless, I'm speechless.
Framing this as a puzzle has me wanting to try it myself. Well done
I believe in you Callum! Been watching you since your Snakewood nuzlocke.
Remember that it's a puzzle with a lot of RNG, aka, an evil puzzle that hates you.
Well that's what Pokemon battles have always been? They're puzzles. Just because the OG games are beatable by a 4 year old child doesnt mean there cant be complex puzzles within the parameters of a pokemon battle.

I only know smallant
im almost sure pchal was at the chat during smant's E4!
Really pushing the 10 minute mark here buddy
Lmao
Just barely. I mean, it's not even 11 minutes long 👀
xDD
Those 3 ads really pushed it. 0/10
2025's most unique comment™
dude this is fantastic, i'm only 25 mins in so far but you've got me hooked. The anime intro is next level
3hr Pat React? 😎 Nah I’m jk but I love knowing that I’ll always find you supporting other creators in their comments!
reaction video?!
You guys need to do an “and then we fight” together i need to see pchal in one of those hahaha
plz react, Pat!
Hey Pat, love u buddy
The last sentence gave me chills “I may not be the best anymore, but goddamn will I earn my seat at the table”
Great video PChal, the greatest Nuzlocker
Well he technically built the table, prior to him nuzlocke were in a bad state. So he was the best by virtue of being the first (he was also pretty good)
I love that line because it shows how truly humble he is and I think this is the turning point for him, his nuzlockes and his outlook
@XenithShadow agreed thanks and big part to pchal and those other early nuzlockers there was a solid community in place to take advantage of the huge exposure due to Jaiden’s nuzlocke video exploding
Props for instantly updating the video title whenever another person joins the pantheon of people who beat run and bun
The goat is back. Pull up a chair.
I grabbed 2 chairs for both my legs, chef.
@pkdesuwu I'mma need a chair for every toe at this rate
… I mean I’d watch an @adef run n bun vid too
More is merrier chef
Finally finished this. Absolute masterpiece. Thank you for all the work you and your team put into this
Hi Callum.
Theres 2 genders
Wow, the wait was worth it. This is an outstanding video. What a journey.
what a really cool fellow
what is this, a crossover episode?
@GoldenWave98 I stay mellow
@ItsTheAtomicGamer LEGENDARY REFERENCE
Agreed. It was definitely worth waiting for. What an emotional pay off at the end.
"And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about."
I’ll never have a better accomplishment than submitting the nickname of Pythagoras. The unsung hero.

@Rammbob o7
Nice

It took Emerald kaizo 151 attempts to make Jan this emotional. Run and bun did it in 5. That just shows how much effort each battle made him put in.
FUCKKKKK
I shouldn't have looked at the comments
Spoilers damn it
R&B attempts also take way, way, _way_ longer.
German man experiences emotions for the first time
I took me until drake to realize this was only attempt 5, just shows how powerful calculators are
@HappyMagolor2 also encounter quality, many EK attempts were reset just because encounters were so trash the game was effectively unbeatable, Run and Bun doesn't seem to really have that issue
It feels almost poetic that despite Jan having planned this video for ages, and working on it for over a year, it still releases at the end of the month
Also one day after Alpharad's first Run & Bun video.
Muuuuhhhhney 🤑🤑🤑 it's what turned me off from this channel long ago
@sirripsalot420i cant believe that someone wants to earn money from making videos, insane
Consistency is key they say 😅
@sirripsalot420 Did you not see his last video? He addresses that, and has been saying that this is his largest scale video eating most of his time.
Sure he'll still do sponsors, but not to that dogshit "Nuzlocke Archetype" level again.
Once I heard "I'm the best nuzlocker in the world"
I fucking yelled out. That's my goat man. Congrats
56:26 "Im getting beat up by 3rd graders, it's like I'm in middle school again!" Lmaooo
I did a mental double take on that one... Haha!
This implies pChall was getting his ass kicked by children two years younger.
The fact that Jan still ended up following the little tradition of bringing a new pokemon to win every single run with Cresselia was so rewarding
omg i didnt even put that together holy shit
@arieswizardhow he says it lol
@ryanechelberger7035 what timestamp is that?
@reesemccoy2581 2:55:13
@iWorkYuhurddang I was literally in the middle of scrubbing through the video to find that timestamp!
welcome back king 👑
Smant just beat it and pChal already changed the title
He figured out the emotional beats. Jesus Christ. I watched this live, and "just a few more fights, then we scale" was always that joking line holding us together. In this video, it was such a fucking emotional line though. Incredible
right??? it instilled so much doubt and a feeling of dread, a feeling that the run was heading towards a catastrophic fall, every time
Did run and bun gave a german the ability to understand emotions? 🫡
I remember watching the daily vids and holy hell every single one ends with "x more fights and we scale"
There were so many times during the run where we were saying, "are we scaling yet?" or yeah "few more fights/encounters, then we scale." It constantly felt like Jan was getting dogshit encounters too. Felt like after Corviknight, we didn't get anything good until dragapult.
pchal having a mental breakdown arguing with himself for the entire second chapter of the vid really messed with my head too
light jan vs dark jan
Get out of my head I can’t think no more man
I was *ahem* not sober while watching this video, and it really messed with my head for a bit lol
Was pretty funny at first, got annoying after like 2 minutes of it though
@CorruptSaberzAgreed. I watch these guys for their gameplay. I always find nuzlocke youtuber’s humour attempts a bit cringe after a while.
Doppelgänger section straight up gave me an aneurysm, whiplash and nostalgia, well done 😭😭😭
same 😭😭
Was that an actual doppelgänger? Almost didn’t look or sound like him but girl had to convince me it was him
2:36 to replay the song. Surprised no one timestamped it
Bro's production value is so insane he had a whole ass anime opening made for a Pokémon video
And an outro
It's so incredible to see how far you've come as both a pokemon player and content creator, Jan. What an amazing video you and your team have put together.
Ts pmo sm fr hawk tuah 💔😭🥀🔥♥️
This is why you Blaziken.
Teriyaki had hands
ts is truly the best nuzlocke video oat.
ts comment is great 🌾🌾
One must imagine pchal happy
perchance
@torch-eh7tino pchal
go off camus
As a wise man said…
thats when he was avoiding the double battle to catch the Alolan Sandslash
You have to love that for all the math. It still comes down to "the heart of the cards"
Yep, the encounters made attempt 5 feel like a Trashlocke most of the time...it felt like watching Garbage Green all over again.
“But i am not Sisyphus” gave me chills man, amazing video!
Where was this in the video?
@Fearless_is_awesome Hell no I'm not spoiling with a timestamp. You're gonna watch the whole movie and you're gonna like it 😎
@Fearless_is_awesome No. You don't get that. You will watch and endure the story as it was intended. You must climb the mountain, for it is only then that you will earn the peak.
@Fearless_is_awesome 00:00:01 right there, clip is about 3hours 20 minutes long
Hype as fuck anime ass moment
I've never heard of you, what this romhack was, had no idea what those ad breaks were about, and probably missed half the inside jokes, but damn that was a watch from end to end. Totally hooked. GG indeed!
The ad breaks were the inside jokes.
Same here, don’t know anything about this but wow this was pure cinema
The Jan reacting to Jan was really funny
Me too
Oh you didn't get the inside jokes? I guess you'll have to watch more of Jans videos, then you might understand them 😂
Hello, it's me, the 69th winner, and 68th on the sheet. You're Welcome.
i am the 66th winner and 65th on the sheet and i am better
Damn you Pchal for forcibly resetting my "Days without Pythagoreans' theorem" streak I had going for 11 years.
Yeah he actually trolled quite a tad of us all over here. Nicely done ;)
I lost “The Game!”
@rileyackison4495 I hope you step on a lego.
Pythagoras is worth it
Prase the funi bug
The sprite work on all these modern Pokemon to make them fit the game is amazing
Thank you so much for the opportunity to be a part of this video!! It was such a pleasure :D
thank u for all ur hard work!!!
Not gonna lie the Arsyn spoof ad was one of the funniest jokes Jan has ever made was crying at that shit.
especially when you realize the URL he "promoted" links to his patreon 🧠
I was in tears as well! I think we just got a little glimpse into the soul of Jan about how he feels about some "gamer" drinks, and it was hilarious.
ARSYN! 🔥🔥🔥🗣🗣🗣
Would buy it ngl
Ngl all the ad jokes were top notch
"I'm getting beat up by third graders, it's like I'm in middle school again!"
That was an underrated line that took me a second to register. Great stuff, Jan!
How did it take you any amount of time to get that. There is no double meaning, just two seperate instances of the same thing.
@ZwijgerI thought "oh, bullied at school reference, got it."
And then realized the ages.
I actually don't get it. There are no third graders in middle school, right?
@rogierownage I think some places combine elementary and middle schools. But also he could just mean he was getting beat up by third graders in his community at the time he was in middle school.
I paused the video to come make this comment 😂 underrated joke for sure
Crazy how a video essay about a guy beating a pokemon game, was better than any full production movie I’ve seen in years. Incredible!
@dawn-path I wish you a speedy recovery 🙏❤️
And then?
"I am not Sisyphus"
To take the nigh endless chain of bad encounters, pile of bodies, floods of bad RNG, and stray misplays he had, only to leave the meta strats behind and trust that he could succeed by steering whatever the game gave him? And then to ACTUALLY DO IT?!
Actual. Factual.
*Absolute Cinema*
He's not just fighting trainers. Hes fighting his demons. I can't believed I cried during a fucking Nuzlocke video...
As Jan said in this video, “Es gibt keine Dämonen” (there are no demons)
MF DOOM living the liquidation
exorcist shadow ball def drop on latias
if these ain't enough to make you cry idk what will
@smilelikegengar the para on manaphy was where i got the hope back
God those fake sponsors are so funny, I've genuinely thought of the cookiejar idea before as an intrusive thought
ILL PLAY AROUND THE CRIT THIS TIIIIIIMEEEEE 🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'VE BEEN MAKING CALCULATIONS🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥💥💥
I REALLY need that song on Spotify
I think the words of Wolfe Glick after he won EUIC haunted me through this video, every time I thought Jan was in the clear that nagging "But it wasn't enough" popped back in my head with every mix-up he encountered. This video is nothing short of a masterpiece.
BUT IT WASN'T ENOUGH!!!!!!!!
"It's tradition to take a pokemon that hasn't been registered in the hall of fame of Run n Bun into the Elite 4, but I'm not in a position to do that"
The game: "fine then, I'll force you to. Here's Cresselia!"
The game doesn't give you what you want. But it does give you what you need.
And she clutched right at the end with the Thunder para on Manaphy
Man muss sich Sisyphos als glücklichen Menschen vorstellen.
Congratulations on graduation. It's truly a huge accomplishment and I've seen many drop out along the way.
Epic asf. Congrats man!
Man this actually made me tear up a little, massive congratulations friend 💜
We immediately need a “a2 + b2 = c ya” shirt
so fucking true
QUIP OF ALL TIME
I'd like to mention that he doesn't even say the formula correct. It's c², not c. He says it wrong multiple times.
@rogierownagec can equal 1
@FireFoxie1345 That doesn't make that formula correct
"There’s this emperor, and he asks the shepherd’s boy how many seconds in eternity. And the shepherd’s boy says, ‘There’s this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it and an hour to go around it, and every hundred years a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiseled away, the first second of eternity will have passed.’ You may think that’s a hell of a long time. Personally, I think that’s a hell of a bird."
I see, a man of culture. I love Capaldi's Doctor, especially for Heaven Sent
@lucaillgen1248 it's an all time classic and I thought the Shepherds Boy fitted this video well.
@lucaillgen1248it's weird, I really hated him at first but he's up there with 10 and 11 for me now.
One of the last moments the show was good, but DAMN if that right there wasn't one of the best moments it ever had. Pchal is indeed one hell of a bird.
@Noname-e9k7k naaa the shows still good
27:53 “calcing” is short for calculating. He’s just using slang guys.
This video made me realize two things. Jan can really pull out all the stops when he wants to, and I never, EVER want to play this fucking game. Bravo for sacrificing your mental well-being for our enjoyment o7
I actually recommend people play most of the games Jan challenge runs but just...
Don't challenge run them, these games are actually really balanced and well pace in the traditional sense when you play them without Nuzlock rules.
just play without nuzlocking them, theyre actually made to be difficult at a base level
I might be insane, because having played through run & bun casually this video made me want to nuzlocke it.
You don't go into the asylum until October, you must stop before then.
this is going to get lost in the sauce of comments and theres not much i can say that i haven't already said, but damn, we made something magical
well well well, who do we have here?
@tyronesmith5014 It's 👉 called 🗣 chesto 🧰 berry 🫐 dude 🧍♂ look 👀 it 👉 up ☝
the team behind this piece of art created something truly wonderful, i legitimately don't have much to say beyond congratulations on being a part of it
seriously fam. this is incredible work
In the nicest possible way it did not feel like 3 hours at all.
Geometry dash man, what are you doing here my king?
I teared up man I truly thought he lost
yooooo aeon my guy
Idk... Deku said he was gonna become world greatest hero and ended up being a McDonald's Cashier
Very "but it refused" plot twist. Loved the vid ^_^
2:20:58 ALL CAPS WHEN YOU SPELL THE MAN NAME!!!
That was me last night before going to bed as well 🤣
I'm heading to work with like no sleep cause I couldn't stop watching lol
i am so glad i clicked this on a fucking saturday
I'm so happy the Shoal Cave Egg Heist made it in. One of my absolute favourite moments in Nuzlocke history. All that preparation, the cursed egg, and Chat was there for it 1000%
what is the cursed egg?
@KivaUnderscore The cursed egg was left out even from the PChal daily videos. On the 29th of May in 2024, while Dragapult and Dragalge got busy producing eggs for the heist, one egg came out "different."
Its shell was miscoloured (orange) and it lacked a preview sprite.
We will not check that box anymore."
He promised to hatch it, though, after the run was over.
We will no longer check that box!"
When Jan tried to hatch the egg, it took forever, used a golden Dragapult as its sprite, but eventually, it hatched.
At the end I literally thought to myself that this was a better movie than LOTR
@TheQuicksilver115 Okay dude, it's good but you're just plain wrong.
Dude almost any (insert game) “movie” is better than almost any modern box office release. It’s not hard when the movie standard is as shit as the gaming industry standard. Jan is a really good nuzlocker that can turn it into a better story than most dialogue in modern movies and games. Simple as that. 🤷🏽♂️
@Fadexpl to each their own, but LOTR never made me cry 🤷♂️
This is the Mona Lisa of Nuzlocke videos.
Great comment. Couldnt said it better ❤
Truly a work of art.
blud has never seen a lets play
lets play is not really that engaging for many, mine included @drkpmnair
@drkpmnair This is not a let's play, a let's play would show 99% of the gameplay, this probably only showed 25%.
"One must imagine Sisyphus happy"
DUDE GETTING ORIGAMI ANGEL TO WRITE AN ANIME INTRO SONG FOR THIS IS SOOOOOOO INCREDIBLY BASED
I saw them a few months ago, I was wondering if it was them
I thought that voice sounded familiar, that's so rad
OMG I remember they opened for glaive. That’s so cool
I went to the comments looking for this I popped off so hard when I heard his voice
@tomaslock2738 they are so fucking good live, its insane how a band with only 2 people in it can produce such a full and rich sound
This was 3 HOURS LONG and it only felt like a 30 minute video. That's how locked in I was watching this.
Holy PEAK of a video, this was a whole FEATURE FILM 🔥
Man...I'm only 30 minutes in and I'm already blown away by the amazing writing and editing visuals! Absolutely fantastic work my friend, I can already tell this is gonna be my video of the year! 🍿
on my third rewatch and i only just noticed the boulder looks like a pokeball
3:15:58 not gonna lie, I was brought to tears too, it was a really special moment
El mejor pais de chile hermano cualquier wea el Yan es chileno
Chile el mejor país de Chile ctm
obsessed with the idea that Jan overcame a Sisyphean task by accepting and leveraging Tantalus' torment (the good encounters are always just out of reach)
Not Steve Irwin dying to a water type
this really runs my bun
It really buns my runs
This buns really my run
My buns have got the runs
🤨📸
Your comment really grinds my Klinklang
I’ve been a fan of Pokemon for my entire life and moments like watching you steer the Wallace fight live are the exact reason why. Absolute cinema. Terrific job
The sheer whiplash I just got from seeing one of my favorite rap channels under a Pokemon video is unreal.
Just watched this with my 2 month old in her carrier napping
This just means you can’t be surprised when that baby turns out to be a massive gamer. ;)
this might be the greatest video i have ever seen
"For a moment, it does feel like there's a seventh member on this team. Watching me." Awww.. I got a emotional at that. Especially when the constellation of heracross showed up. TT^TT
I’m so glad I went in not knowing if you won or lost. That ending is unbelievable. INCREDIBLE work.
The setup for this is just perfect too.
In the Intro he said "this is the story of my furthest attempt into run & bun" had me like 'hol up, somethings wrong XD
I knew he won but it even had me wondering if he was going to win 😂
Yeah genuinely. This video had a vice grip on my atention because I had no idea how it would go.
If not the best then definitely one of them
Lol what does nuzlocker and run&bun mean 😅 I'm nit familiar with this space
@exxm4rine244a “nuzlocker” is someone who plays nuzlockes- a pokemon variant where, to put it in simple terms, you treat any fainted Pokemon as dead, can only catch one Pokemon per route, and then there are other rules you can add like not using items during battle.
Run and bun is the name of the romhack of the game he’s playing. A romhack is where someone takes the base game and changes things in it, in this case they focuses on making it very difficult and requiring complex strategies to win.
@exxm4rine244 Tell me you didn't watch the Video without telling me.
@exxm4rine244 All of this stuff is explained in the first 2 minutes of the video but:
Nuzlocke: permadeath challenge in Pokemon, includes additional rules such as no items and no over leveling
Run and Bun: fanmade Pokemon game, the hardest one of all time
Here after smallant did it his first try
"I'm not an influencer trying to sell you a product, I'm not Pokémon Challenges, I'm Jan. For a few fateful minutes, I'm pchal, the best nuzlocker in the world, and this, is how I beat the Pokémon Run & Bun nuzlocke."
This line actually got me so hyped. Loved this video the whole way through. Incredible! The best video I have watched in years!
Fav bit of the video
I'm not Jan* get it at least right nigga if it gets you so hyped lmao
Exactly my thoughts when that line came out too. Goosebumps.
I legit spent the entire video thinking that he failed the run in the end. But then when he said that line, I was locked in. Amazing drama to end the video on
Legit chills hearing you rip the "I'm pchal. I'm the best nuzlocker in the world." line as the plot armor kicks in
This man was dead serious about making this vid so polished that it became a movie
Man fuck all the naysayers, fuck the doubt. You ARE the Best Nuzlocker in the world.
To be honest it’s not even just polish, there’s genuine artistry in here. He’s making art, not just a summary of his experience nuzlocking a game.
im literally watching this as a movie❤
@thomasestling3400 these are the kinds of comments that showcase exactly why Jan hates RUclips commenters. What a pretentious thing to say.
Is it still art if it sucks ass? Or just because it's good, in your opinion, now it's art? Just shut up.
Senor Lax!
It's an amazing video! But I still find it funny he posted it on 31st :P Consistency is key they say
This whole reaction to himself joke made me feel like im a Child again hearing my parents argue in the kitchen while im hiding beneath my sheets
Holy shit dragepult is also a ghost type, and ghosts are the dead spirits of creatures. They are also both incredibly fast physical sweepers
Well done! ❤
When the second Jan popped on screen I almost lost it 😂
when i first saw this video it said "only 58 people", now it's at 64, nice
65 for me, so someone else beat it between your comment and mine
@Goatgoat9969 shut up you look like Sudowoodo
@Goatgoat9969 66 now
Now it's 66
