I had a difficult neighbour. He was always complaining even about things we hadn´t even done yet, but just things he could imagine happening.. Like when we pushed the piano into our house he told us not to play late at night because he had small children. I never play late at night, but now I felt I kind of had to restrain myself. One day we made a fence between our houses together, because the one thing we could agree on was that we wanted a really high fence and he told me he had PTSD from being in Afghanistan. I never had trouble with him again, because I started listening to him. And then he stopped complaining all of a sudden. So there might be something there.

In some cases, a difficult person is being categorized as difficult by people who are ignorant and careless. Just one example of my own personal experience. Yes I am difficult. Complicated. But also fairly well experienced. And knowledgeable. Dealing with people who are completely careless and ignorant. Mmmkaayyyy...

This is a very well known phenomenon and it needs to be explained to the masses who are blind to what’s happening in the world today and they dismiss any rational proof of anything. Best I can find.. it´s not really a syndrome. I checked, but I can only find other CDS´s like the Chicago Dental Service. I know it only as "cognitive dissonance", a temporary state of mind, when we are forced to hold two conflicting ideas, assumptions or beliefs. This causes stress, before our mind finds a rational (or less rational) explanation for this state of affairs and the dissonance is resolved. It can be resolved in desillusion or in illusion, but in both cases stress is relieved. So it has little to do with rational proof or truth per se, except in a philosophical sense. It is just a discription of the internal workings when there are conflicting viewpoints within one individual. Also, as with all hypotheses about the workings of the mind, there is some pushback and not all psychologists agree on this being necessarily true. Believing that it is a syndrome that other people have and you don´t, might actually make life harder than it needs to be. Some will say that is what life is all about, but I am not sure I agree.
