Learning that you are dyslexic was an encouragement to me, as I am very dyslexic as well and working to build my own wood shop right now. I just got a table saw and will be adding other tools as I can. Thanks again for sharing and oh yeah. Ariat is also my favorite brand.
April I have been watching you from the beginning of your videos and it’s amazing how far you have come your ability to build is amazing love your videos and the instructions and. Information you put into your work and it doesn’t hurt that your beautiful lady 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🌹🌹🌹🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍺🍺🍺🤩🤩🤩
Wait what? I was in the wood shed Friday and saw that exact chair in front of that exact pallet of plywood. LOL! I wonder by how long I missed seeing this get filmed. :p
Dyslexic? I never would have guessed if you had not shared that with us. Thanks for being open with that. This could be quite helpful with my students who have similar "other" abilities. You have a great RUclips presence and a guest spot on an awesome television show. Having you as a successful person to show that something like dyslexia can't hold you back if you don't let it is a boon to our struggling youth/students. Bless you for being open and showing some of your work-arounds dealing with your other-ability.
Thank you for your kind words. Not only dyslexic but I had a speech impediment also. I worked hard in 6 years of Speech Therapy so anything can be achieved if you put your mind to it. Instead of letting it intimidate you, let it make you resolve to work even harder to overcome. Thank you for watching.
@@AprilWilkerson well, the hard work definitely paid off. Love the channel and the work you do. Loved the tv show with "Tim and Al" too. Can you say if there will be another season? And if so, will you be joining them?
Thanks for sharing with us April, great job with the rocking chair and modeling Ariat’s Clothing Line too. Keep up the good work. Fred. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻✋🏻✋🏻
Having made many Adirondack chairs there is one weakness in your design. Attaching the arms at the back as you do is fine. Over time as people sit on those arms, it will eventually break. Add a vertical support from the bottom leg to the arm to resolve that problem.
The solution for that is to scream "get the f$%* off my chairs you brats" loudly and liberally. Seriously, anyone sitting on the arms is really foolish and deserves whatever splinters they get. Of I suppose you can sit quietly in chair #1 with a shotgun and keep one eye out for children and idiots for chair #2, 3, 4, etc.😂🤣
Holy crap!! I just finished shopping for the lumber to make two of these rockers from Menard's. I feel like I ran a 5K. 1x6 and 1x4 on completely opposite parts of their property, plus a flight of steps to boot. It cost me about $80/chair. Alright, enough complaining. Let's build these rockers!! I'm really going to need one by the time I finish. Ha!
Just ordered these templates hope it goes well! I really enjoy watching your videos thanks! I would rather place an order from someone like you then from a big name store.
Just ordered and received the templates for this chair - your Mom is FAST getting the orders shipped!! I was wondering if you had thought about making plans for a smaller version of the chair for kids?
@@ChiefMoonChunks true, good tip! but I reckon there will be some movement and twsiting in those slats after cutting it with a jigsaw, so I was looking for a soltution to that.
I've seen quite a few Adirondack chairs, but this is the best one so far. This is definitely going on my list of projects to build! Save me a template for this chair. Please and thank you. Thanks for sharing and God bless
Are you templates messed up cuz mine were . Was missing the under arm support and 15 1/2" piece under are and 2 of the pieces that supposed to be 3 1/2 cut from the 1x4's are only 3 1/4 " templates so all the extra work plus no assembly measurements . I contacted them and got nowhere .
I love your videos. The way you talk through everything makes it all seem so attainable! Do you think it would be possible to make your folding design into a rocker? Or your rocker design foldable? Give it some thought. I really like both features and don’t want to have to choose. Keep it up! 👍
Actually, "Adi-rock-dack" wouldn't be a bad name for it! Great design, April! I like 'constructing' those half-laps, too, especially given the strength of glue. Goes back to when I didn't have the right equipment to cut one from solid wood, but there's also the advantage of getting different grain in there strengthening each other against warping/twisting (even running in the same direction still has this advantage).
Great looking chair April. Now to make a folding version of that chair 🤔. That would be awesome lol. I will definitely be picking up a set of your plans for both this rocking Adirondack chair and your folding Adirondack chair. I have to say that I love your channel and always look forward to see what you have to share next.
I received my templates for this build today. Written instructions could be freshened up as the video gives a rapid overview. What size double sided tape did you use? I'm looking forward to this build. P.S the guys at the woodshed were very helpful. Long time sub here.
Love the design, April! Can you tell me what width and thickness of wood and how much you use for this? I'm trying to figure out cost on building one. I'm thinking I should be able to use deck boards for most of it. Although cedar would be better.
Only thing I would like to see different was the where the arm rest attached to the support. People pulling on that could be a weak point. Maybe a through tennon with a wedge would be better (?).
They are available on my website, I've left a Link under description of the video. Click on Link and it takes you directly to site and you can choose the MDF templates or Plastic. Thanks for watching.
Hey April, I really enjoyed the video and love this chair! I went to your website to buy the plan and I couldn’t add it to my cart. Is it still available? Thanks.
At 5:47 it looks like you used self locking Nyloc nuts. But didn't you just finish saying that you used the equivalent of Loctite blue thread locker?, which is a removable thread lock? As the wood shrinks from dryer air conditions and age, you might find that your bolts will become slightly loose. To reduce this in the future, you may want to go with just split lockwashers and the same nuts that you used. I don't think that rocking chair will ever see enough vibration to warrant a thread locker AND self locking nuts.
I like this design and I receive the templates however none of them are labeled as to what part of the chair they refer to. Can you provide further support?
My daughter is taking carpentry in school and I sent her the link to this asking her to make it for me for my Christmas/birthday/anniversary gift next year… the thing is, she doesn’t have all the tools you have, and she is only 16…. Can we buy it precut and rounded, so she can just assemble it for me? Although that takes the fun out of wood making…. How else would one get their wood cut like this without tools? Is there a list of what is needed? Renting these tools would cost much more than just buying a already complied rocker,,, :/ any advice??

"Get off my lawn" as you rocked in the chair was hilarious.

"Adirockindack"
Thumbs up and thanks for posting!
Just a tip, you could put a bevel where your back slats attach to give an even finish.
April rocks! 🤘 😊
New to the channel. Great work.
To hide the original holes for the back panel backboard, use sawdust from the same wood as the boards and wood glue
Yes, that's certainly a good idea also. Thanks for watching.
Looks very comfortable , beautiful and great video as always

Because it was on the table.

Any tips on getting the top of the back slats flush with eachother?
You could probably assemble first and then draw a curve and cut after it's put together with a jigsaw

6:58 "OY! Why are you on the table?!?!" nice to have a crew guy who looks out for your safety, even if that involves him yelling at you....
I took the time to learn what problems dyslexia causes for people other than my previous vague idea. An eye opener for me.
Awesome! I'm glad it brought an awareness to you. People have no idea and think it is merely transposing letters and numbers. Thanks for watching.
Another great video Ms April 👍🏼😉
Awesome chair April!
Suggestion for the next project. A hammock and hammock stand. Just don't used it after having a few beers. LOL
Attach a bevelled strip of timber behind the head rest to prevent it from buckling.
Thx, April-- great project, great chair. I'll make 3 more now.

nice looking chair April, looks easy to build. might need to add an upper back support. did you have to wait for the treated wood to dry out?
Rock away!

Awesome idea! Quick question, is it safe to sit on treated wood? I am going to build these for my in-laws and want to make sure it is safe.
Seal the timber or paint it.

She mentioned 1x or 1” x in her video, the width would be up to you. Personally I’d use 1x10 and perhaps get many boards out of one.
Totally making this
Great! Enjoy the build.
