  • My recent videos about Drag races, Drift events and high speeds in many different racing games have been extremely successful and I am glad that after years of making videos people finally start to recognize me for owning a lot of racing games and knowing a lot about them.
    However, the specific focus of my channel is actually meant to be not just racing games in general but more specifically competitive play in racing games. When I play racing games my goal is usually to be as fast as possible in them and to set the fastest times that I can. And that's also what most of my regular videos are about: Showing how to be very fast on a particular track in a particular game.
    Sadly those regular videos are still not getting a lot of attention, even though I can see in the comment sections of several other RUclips channels that there are quite a few people who enjoy seeing racing games being played on a high level. These people are my real target audience but it seems like I still haven't reached a lot of them. It seems like many people still haven't understood that I not only own a lot of racing games but that I also play them very competitively. Hopefully this video will change that.
    In this video I am showing fast competitive laps in not just one but 20 different racing games. This should give you a good idea of what I am able to do and will hopefully make at least some people interested in starting to follow my regular videos as well. :)
    For each of these laps I practiced for about one hour on average and in several of the shown games I have years of experience, which includes participating in esports tournaments and reaching top ranks on countless ingame leaderboards. For the runs that are shown in my regular videos I usually practice very hard as well, so if you like what you see in this video, then check out my regular videos too!
    Timeline:

    13:37 Dirt 3 - Hachiko Square, Shibuya in 25.1 with Subaru Impreza WRX STI GR RX
    14:22 Grid Autosport - Hockenheimring Short Course in 1:19.6 with Mazda Panspeed RX-7
    16:02 Driveclub - Maplewood 1, Canada in 46.7 with Ferrari FXX K
    17:09 The Crew Wild Run - Golden Hills Raceway in ~1:20 with Ferrari 458 Speciale
    18:51 Need for Speed 20 - Rapid Racer in 23.9 with Porsche 911 Carrera RSR
    19:32 Forza Apex - Brand Hatch GP Circuit in 1:16.3 with Audi R18 e-tron quattro
    21:08 Forza Horizon 3 - East Suburbs in 40.8 with Lamborghini Centenario
    22:06 Dirt 4 - Lydden Hill Full Circuit in 35.0 with Ford Focus RS RX
    23:03 Flatout 4 - Bruxton River Run in 56.5 with Frenzy M600
    Competitive play is about trying to set the fastest times that you can. One thing that you often have to do for this is figuring out which car is the best for the track that you want to drive on. You also have to learn the track, so that you know which lines to take and where you can save time with shortcuts and wallrides. In some games you can also improve your times by using manual transmission or by using a custom car setup.
    I like to help other people save some time with these things, so that they can focus on the most fun part, which is doing the actual driving and trying to execute it as well as possible. That's why in my regular videos I am always happy to reveal the shortcuts that I found and share the settings that I used.
    Regarding the specific games that are shown in this video:
    NFS Underground, Most Wanted and Carbon are games that I used to play in esports leagues and tournaments, so those 3 games I know very well and my times in them in this video are very strong. I am playing without nitrous in MW and Carbon, since that is common in competitive play in those games.
    Dirt 3, Grid Autosport, Driveclub, Forza Horizon 3, Dirt 4 and Flatout 4 are games with ingame leaderboards, which are great for competitive play, since they allow you to see right away how fast you are compared to the other players. All the laps that I am showing here in those games resulted in very good leaderboard ranks.
    The Crew is maybe the game that I am most known for and I have already made hundreds of videos that are showing fast runs in it, so I really wanted to include it here, even though it doesn't show the lap times in circuit races.
    Can't write any more here due to the character limit.

      @Paragleiber  6 лет назад +74

      +AleLò Inc. Nah, that smash is actually on purpose. That's called a wallride. In some corners you can be faster that way. It's a common technique in games like NFS Underground.

      @kelleroid 6 лет назад +15

      Usually with the first game everything is unoptimized and the devs are trying to see what works and what doesn't. By the time the sequel comes out they've already had experience working with the engine and can squeeze out more.

      Nice one, makes sense

    • @oldnewpixel
      @oldnewpixel 6 лет назад +11

      Simple. In NFS2 SE, 3Dfx hardware support was added. Those were the first graphics cards that provided hardware acceleration for games: boost in framerates, higher resolutions, textures filtering, floating point precision (stable polygonal surfaces), all sorts of graphic effects, more triangles per second, etc. If you look for NFS 2 videos running in software mode you'll see they look just a tad better than NFS1. The dramatic improvement in graphic quality you see in this video is mainly due to the introduction of 3Dfx support.

      When it got to Grid I thought that was the point where the games started to look and play like the ones we have today. The handling, the tracks and environments etc didn't seem too far displaced from what we have now. The following games backed that up.
      Then we got to The Crew and it was like going back in time. It seemed more like the earlier NFS's but with a shiny coat of paint.

    Loved reading the description of the video. There´s both people that upload creative content regarding racing games and those that play them in a competitive way, or people that do both. Your channel is very important to show the general audience how competitive play works in arcade racing games, simcades and racing game speedrunning. I hope you do more videos like this one. Of course it´s a pity to not reach all your target audience, but that´s the way YT and social networks work. Newcomers audience will unfortunately always lose the content you did in the past.
    In my case, Im a leaderboard and online racing league freak. Vicechampion in Gran Turismo 6 Spanish team championship. Few top runs in GT6, GRID Autosport, NFS World, NFS 2015, GTA V (huge racing community in that game). But I also like to talk and interview people that went to the GT Academy, and of course knowing lots of people from different countries, who may also compete in real life racing. You will know lots of people Gleiber, as you have been competing for years. I also speedrun a few of those games, including TOCA Race Driver and Test Drive Eve Of Destruction.
    I started doing videos with compilations of world or reginal records in runs in few different games from different friends and top level players. I was inspired by DragCarTV´s videos of Fails in racing games, but changing "Fail" by WRs. It didnt have success as my channel is not very known, but maybe in your channel it would be a good idea to do this Gleiber...

    • @Paragleiber
      @Paragleiber  6 лет назад +4

      Thanks for your comment. I am glad that at least some people read the description. :) Sadly many people don't read it, although I can understand it to some extent, since most channels these days also don't make proper use of it and just spam unrelated links in there...
      Regarding the target audience: It's just really frustrating. I can see that there are quite a few people on RUclips who would like my videos. I can see them talking in the comments on other channels. Have a look at this for example:
      ruclips.net/video/jBmuG9HDh48/видео.html
      This guy regularly shows fast runs in FH3 and he always gets dozens of positive and supportive comments and people are saying how they love to see such skilled driving. I am showing a lot of top leaderboard runs in FH3 as well though but for some reason I get none of that. Here another example:
      ruclips.net/video/ctG625kBa9A/видео.html
      This guy is uploading older racing games and also always getting a lot of comments praising his driving. You would think that these people should enjoy my videos too but I never get comments from any of them. I guess they just don't know about my channel and I just don't know what I can do to make them aware of it. :/
      And about GTA 5, yeah, I regret that I didn't get into that game. I had no idea that racing would be such a big thing in there. Now I know about it but now it's probably a bit late to still start with that.
      I do know quite a few people especially from the days of the big NFS tournaments (around 2004-2010) but most of them are not really playing anymore. If you are from Spain, then you should have a look at flx2105. He is absolutely insane in NFS Carbon! :)
      Here you can see the final race of the world championship in 2007: ruclips.net/video/zOCvWwFViW8/видео.html
      The champion there won $12k (ussr.wrecord.com/img/gallery/1372.jpg) and even today almost nobody is able to beat the times from back then but flx was able to do it: ruclips.net/video/tdaTDGVl8Ng/видео.html
      And if you enjoy leaderboards and competing, then maybe WRC would be an interesting series for you. They have an annual esports competition now. Last year I was able to qualify for the offline finals. Here some footage from it: ruclips.net/video/Y5UxuXLF3Sk/видео.html
      This year it's too late to still enter but on Friday WRC 7 will be released and there will probably be a competition for it next year. And learning the tracks and practicing them in single player is the most important thing in that game, since there is no collision in multiplayer of course. So far there have been no fast Spanish players in the Esports WRC events. Maybe next year? :)

      As a audience who will check the description before watching the actual video, I have a idea for this problem.
      You can directly tell your audiences that your descriptions are different to those in the "commercial channels", in your videos.
      I agree with you, if that is one of the reason people stop noticing video descriptions, then this might work.

    Wow, wow and wow. My hats off and applause to you. This video is absolutely amazing in showing nostalgia and skill. Generally I loved watching your laps from NFSU 1+2 and Most Wanted because those are the best racing games from my childhood. To see your speed compared to my own made me slap myself because I've spent hours in the game and never achieved blistering speed lime that. Awesome job. What was used to drive the cars in the classic games? Keyboard, controller, steering wheel?

    I can really recommend giving Ridge Racer 7 a try. It has very satisfying and fun competitive play and a fairly active online community despite the game being 12 years old.

    So this got in my recommendations and I know this is a Old Video. But dude this was very satisfying to watch and after reading your description you seem to really care about your intended audience. High Skill Racing seems to be swept under the rug from some reason. Another RUclipsr AddictionToGaming also has High Skill Playthroughs of NFS Games and Test Drive Unlimited yet he also is still underrated. Personally I love Racing Videos like this. it’s very satisfying to watch. I’m gonna watch more of your Videos.

    • @Paragleiber
      @Paragleiber  Год назад

      I am glad that you enjoyed it. :) To be honest these days my target audience is just racing game fans in general, since I am trying to do RUclips professionally and there are just way too few people who care about fast runs in particular.
      Now I focus on compilation videos where I show one track or one car in many different games or many tracks from one franchise or something like that, since those tend to be interesting for a lot of people.
      But even in those videos I still try to show very good driving as well, often doing dozens of laps or attempts for every single clip to get them as good as possible, even if most viewers won't care if I am one second faster or slower.
      Are there any games or franchises that you are particularly interested in? It's probably hard to go through my whole backlog but I still know most of the things that I did.
      Here is one somewhat recent run that I am quite proud of myself: ruclips.net/video/QZTAb4QB4gI/видео.html
      It turned out that my limit on that track was just barely under the 7 minute mark, so to break that mark I really needed an almost perfect run and it took me several hours of practice but eventually I pulled it off. :)

      I've played little of racing games myself, sadly. I'm mostly an RPG player, but occasionally I've come across some racing games which have been interesting to me. For example, I got Dirt 2 with my graphic card purchase, thought "Oh well, I'll try it" and before I knew it, I was playing it, a lot. Fun game. Now, I've come across Forza Horizon 3 which came with Xbox One S I bought for kids and tried it too and again, found it to be a fun game. I'm not a good driver in those games but I wreck my fair share of cars :)

    • @Paragleiber

      Well, if you do want to try some Time Attack in FH3, then go to the "Rivals" tab in the pause menu. There you can do Time Attack on every track in the game and it's pretty well made.
      You can choose a person from the leaderboard to race against and then you will see their ghost while you play. You can pick someone who is only slightly above you on the leaderboard, so you have a real chance of beating them. And then when you beat them pick another person and improve your own record step by step. I have a playlist with top 10 runs on 60 different tracks here: ruclips.net/p/PLlk-blXREIdjf2Qts6ox5BaC8QqjDuxDX
      In those videos I am always using car setups that have been shared ingame, so you can simply download them and then your car will be the same as mine.

    What are you using to race? Especially in NFS 20 (as you called it in the video, i think it's 2015 right?). Are you using a steering wheel? And what setup did you use on the Porsche? Pure grip or something in between? And are you using manual shifting or automatic? In some games it looks like manual shifting to me.
    The laps are definitely awesome, I am kind of jealous since I will never get anywhere near those lap times.
    Welp, guess I'll keep feint drifting around each and every corner in NFS 2015, like always. Still better than most just by doing a clean lap :D

    • @Paragleiber
      @Paragleiber  6 лет назад

      In the first game I used keyboard and in all the others gamepad. The setup for the Porsche can be found here: ruclips.net/video/LMrfZfLCnJI/видео.html
      You have to use drifting in that game. It is a lot faster. And the official name of the game is just "Need for Speed" but that is of course not a very clear name, so people give it various unofficial names like 20, 2015 or 2016.
      And yeah, in some games I use manual and in some automatic. In NFS 20 I use automatic. Manual is probably a bit faster there as well but I don't care about the game enough to want to bother with that there.

    Great video, and NFS HP2 and porsche unleashed was the nostalgia, played them when i was 3 years old at my fathers office hehehe. After playing Sim games for a year with a wheel, I must say it was harder to match the good players in arcade games like NFS than it is at sim racing. 1 year in AC and I can get to about 0.2 sec of the WR if I play at the same track for 3-4 hours, but i t would take me 3 days or more to match the WR in need for speed shift or in Dirt 3. I think this is because the cars in a sim behave in a particular way (like in real life) so after some time you can learn the limits, Arcade games on the other hand get unpredictable , like some traffic on Hot Pursuit or more steering input wit the controller. It requires a different skill set. And please guys, if you play sim games don't act like you are special, the guys at WFG can say that they are special, but you are just a guy that happened to prefer the different skills needed for sims...

      True.
      You're a demon with a gamepad tho. Some sims you can kinda play on a pad, but I agree, if they are easy to play on a pad, then I doubt they are very SIM-like. The most 'Simmy' games that I play on gamepad are the same ones you do: Dirt 4, Grid Autosport, F1 2016. Anything more simmy and it becomes a bit too twitchy and fiddly and is prone to massive oversteer.

    • @Paragleiber
      @Paragleiber  6 лет назад

      Well, it's not always the steering that is the problem. For example in Project Cars or in F1 2017 without traction control the problem is mostly that the cars will spin out if you accelerate 100% at low speed. I want to be able to do that though, so these games are not really for me. I only want the steering to be analog, not the braking and accel.

      Maybe because he doesn't own the PC version. And like I said the two versions are different. I never played the PS2 version myself but from what I heard it's actually seen as the better one.

      I honestly didn't even realize there is a PC version of the game (hence why I asked in the original post). I also wanted to see how it would work on a PS2 emulator and that's the version I'm familiar with. also nostalgia :p

    Thank god for the NFS Carbon hood cam. The 3rd person camera made that game feel so terrible.
