    As a Mexican. I'm moved knowing the victims (and their families) of Mexican drug cartels are certainly proud of a movie that celebrates a murderous Mexican kingpin. Directed by a French guy who's never been to Mexico....

    The Oscars this year will give us a fantastic online argument. "The Oscars are racist because Cynthia didn't win" VS "The Oscars are transphobic because Karla didn't win"
    I'm so here for it. 🍿🍿

    Wow, Emilia Perez is getting a lot of nominations. I wonder what it's about, that's got Hollywood so fond of it.
    ...oh, obviously

    Dune 2 not getting a nomination for costume design is INSANE

    • @wwpjd28
      @wwpjd28 11 дней назад

      It should have 100% gotten directing (best directed movie of the year), adapted screenplay (it adapted the unadaptable legendary book), score (though they have the new rule that it used too many themes from the first one to qualify) film editing, and costuming (which were both alien and lived in and helped a ton in creating and understanding this world). Should’ve gotten makeup and hairstyling too but I don’t care as much about that snub. It should’ve replaced Emilia Perez in each of those categories. The other nominees are deserving. And it should’ve won all 10 (those 5 plus the 5 it got nominated for). Makeup and hairstyling I would give to Substance even if Dune were nominated. I actually really like this list of movies at this year’s Oscar’s. All except for Emilia Perez which absolutely destroys it. Way too many noms and we just know it is going to win tons of them too even with absolutely no right to even be in the category.

    I remember when the words most associated with the Academy Awards were, "You have to see this movie," and not, "hmm, never heard of it."

    • @bigduke5902
      @bigduke5902 5 дней назад

      No. People have always had bad taste. I grew up watching movies I could never, ever share my opinion about to my Adam Sandler loving peers. This idea that a divide between critics and the audience is new is a falsehood. Adults simply used to watch movies made for adults rather than demand those based on childrens' literature grow up with them.

    Guys, I'm from Brazil and can say for sure Fernanda Montenegro is perhaps the best or one of the best actresses we ever had, she is known by foreigners for CENTRAL STATION. She didn't won the Golden Globes in 1999, the award went to Cate Blanchett, for the movie Elizabeth, when we had good choices. "CENTRAL" won for best film.
    That 1998 movie was nominated for the Oscars, as best foreigner film (and Fernanda, too), but lost to "Life Is Beautiful", from Italy (Roberto Benigni), which in retrospect I must say is as good or better film. However, this year was deplorable for other reasons: "Shakespeare in Love" won for the best film (when all others were better, including Saving Private Ryan), and Gwyneth Paltrow won for best actress over Fernanda, Cate and others, also a joke (and everyone, even american actresses, recognize that). Do you know the man that was behind all these? Yep, good old Harvey. So, everyone was robbed that year.
    As for the 2025, her daughter, Fernanda Torres, is a good actress, too, she won the Golden Globes, and "I'm Still Here" is competing for the main awards in the upcoming Oscars (it lost to Emilia Perez in the Golden Globes), and the director Walter Salles (which is a billionaire involved with a major bank) is the same from "CENTRAL".
    The movie is about the Military Dictatorship (1964-1985) from Brazil, which for our LEFT is as precious to talk about kinda like AMERICANS doing a movie about January 6th and against Trump. And Torres is known for her LEFTIST views, she praised the current president LULA, which is perhaps the worst brazilian of all time, a corrupt similar to Maduro from Venezuela, and adheres to all liberal schemes. Not a surprise, very few like James Woods do'nt.
    I have no sympathy for all of them and of course the idea all brazilians want to win, is ludicruous, it's the legacy media that is so eager. The fact of the matter is that the Golden Globes will never give any award for people which are neither influent $$$$$ nor bowing to the woke agenda. And our LEFT, decades after this dictatorship ended, only talks about it (as if they were not guilty back then), when in reality it was a lot less harmful than what happened in Chile and Argentina.
    However (and this is where we have to be fair), some folks like Chris Gore, in a past livestream from the Golden Globes, said it was the only film he didn't watch. This isn't very smart if you care about evaluating all contents (not just movies), no matter if it's what our enemies have created - meaning, we need to make sure if delivers a good spectacle. If the acting is good. And from what I've been told, it might be (I haven't seen yet). That doesn't erase the fact it's woke propaganda, of course.
    As for other brazilian movies, I can count in my fingers the ones that are good, and I mean from all periods in history. There are very few, indeed, and most of them from the past, like classic soap operas. That doesn't mean we can't evolve, in terms of culture, and create something remarkable. But, you know, it's a market that is very restricted and only the "elite" has the impulse needed to be noticed everywhere.

    Emilia Perez legitimately stole tons of nominations from Dune. The others are deserving but director, costume, editing, makeup and hairstyling all should’ve been Dune instead of Perez. And Dune should’ve gotten score too if not for that dumb rule that it used too many of the themes from the first one (ie developed elite musical themes to be shared across a franchise and then built on them). Also, Challengers should’ve gotten score at the least and maybe screenplay too. Emilia Perez committed highway robbery in these nominations. Really the only thing I have a problem with throughout the show. I like most of the other nominated films in most categories.

    1. No Bardem or Hemsworth for best supporting actor...
    2. No Mars Express for Animated Movie
    3. Dune Snubs: Director, Score, Adapted Screenplay, Editing, Costume Design, Supporting Actor (Yes, I'll say it again. Bardem gave the most iconic performance of the year FFS)
    4.Throw Furiosa a bone, damnit. Costume Design, Production Design, Sound, Visual Effects pls
    5. I think Memoir of a Snail probably deserved a screenplay nom
    6. The Order is nowhere to be seen.
    I guess I could probably go on. The more I think about it, the more I think there ought to be 10 nominees in every category. There were a ton of films that deserve more recognition that will get none from the Academy this year.

    I'm sorry guys but I loved Dune 1. Hated Dune 2. I was very disappointed. They screwed up the weirding way and botched the ending with politics. It didn't live up to the potential of the first movie. I'd rather watch the Lynch movie again.

    I kinda got what Emilia Perez was going for. I didn't hate the movie - the message that transitioning is not just outward but inward too, is weird (and doesn't make sense - I'm not sure trans people would like what it's trying to say). I found it entertaining enough (and I normally hate musicals). It all ends on a downer too. 7/10 I think is fair rating.

    Answer to the question "Do the oscars matter" answer is NO for me atleast it lost all credibility years ago (somewhere around 2000-2010) its the same thing with Geoff Keighley and the game Awards... Not the actual best Movie or Game wins for each category its 99% rigged as fuck... Most of the time the winners are the thing that sold the most and or checked boxes not the objectively best movie or game. And when i say rigged i mean they try to push a movie or game with the nominations / winners bcs they probably got payed behind the scenes.

      If Dune was a miniseries, I don't think it would be boring.
      What made it boring for me was that it felt so much was left out that I got lost a few times and never got reinvested in it
