Looks like some kind of rot, I hope it can recover. Purpurata likes a lot of airflow at the roots, I have them in a combination of bark and rocks in a pot with holes at at the side, they seem to like it Good luck with it😊
I think it has stopped. 🤞The humidity in here is so low that I can dry up my cactuses if in a clay pot. 😄 so it’s a balance, same as with having too much humidity. Let’s see how it develops.
No, I wish. Because that would be treatable. 😞 I use insecticide in continual treatments, switching between brands and substances. The thrips would take over right away. I’m fearing of some sort of rot. It’s not mushy though. I didn’t repot it last summer and I’m afraid I lost 2 years of root growth due to that (all out of pot). I’m able to hydrate them, but this silly billy is pushing out 2 canes with sheets and activated 6 new eyes. 🫣🫣🫣 I feel this might be stress raection, but wanted to ask you, if there might be something else.
@tropicalplantsfinlandit’s a huge and beautiful plant though. It has some spot on a leaf as well what looks maybe like sunburn? I don’t think this should be rot.
@ if not rot, then I’m glad. 😮💨Probably going to prevent it from blooming, until I have been able to repot and restart it. I was so waiting for the next summer with all those growths. Its first blooming was really a good one. Thank you for your advice ❤️🤗
@ it’s a nightmare. Here in Finland they seem to be really common. Even if you eradicate them, they might hitch a ride on some bananas. 🫣😄 I have one systemic pesticide that treats all the forms. Others are for prevention. Trying not to get them used to that one thing, which I’m allowed to use. I did the treatment round last fall/winter with the systemic.

Did you have scale in that spot?

@tropicalplantsfinland PS I never had thrips but they sound horrific. For me it’s just scale haha
