Depotting Lipstick | No Heat, No Mess

    ** The reason I did not use heat is that heat and melting product can change the consistency and structure of the product. I want them to perform the same de-potted which is why I am not applying heat to them. This method is nothing new or my own, I took tips & tricks from many other videos to figure out the quickest and easiest no-heat way to transfer lipsticks from tube to palette!
    At the time I made this I was building a kit and based this method on other videos I watched about lipstick depotting. You can definitely put the tubes directly into the palette and mash there, the only reason I didn't is that I thought by trying to mash in such a tiny amount of space, that the product would spill over and create even more mess. This palette is very small (fits in my hand) so each pan is quite small. Most were quite full and couldn't fit any more lipstick, so a little bit of waste was OK by me as trying to squeeze the pans too full would have been even more mess. If you don't like this method - that's ok! It doesn't bother me at all, there are tons of videos that do use heat so definitely if you need a really perfect-looking palette I would seek those out for a method using heat. My thought was that once I have to use a lip brush to work with the lipsticks they'd be messy anyway, and would never stay perfectly flat so it didn't matter too much. Plus, the 'imperfect' look doesn't bother me at all, but if it does bother you I would definitely try heat (I was afraid it would alter the formula of some of these lipsticks).
    The reason I sanitize between EVERY lipstick is that this is designed to be used on clients, and to avoid the spread of any possible bacteria I had to be very careful to keep everything fully clean and sanitized, which is also why I didn't use my hands to touch any product directly, rather I used a clean kleenex to pull out the tube, and the spatula to mash/move the product.

    Hi everyone! I have no idea where this huge influx of views came from, as this video is over a year old and suddenly getting views. I realize most of the comments are people saying it's wasteful or silly, and that's fine, it's definitely not for everyone and unless you are using this in a pro makeup kit to work on clients in a sanitary way it's really not necessary. At the time I made this I was building a kit and based this method on other videos I watched about lipstick depotting. You can definitely put the tubes directly into the palette and mash there, the only reason I didn't is that I thought by trying to mash in such a tiny amount of space, that the product would spill over and create even more mess. This palette is TINY (fits in the palm of my hand) so each pan is quite small. Plus, the 'imperfect' look doesn't bother me at all, but if it does bother you I would definitely try heat (I was afraid it would alter the formula of some of these lipsticks). Anyway, thanks for watching, and again I really don't mind the dissenting opinions, it's really not a big deal and I realize there are hundreds of ways to complete a similar task, this isn't going to please everyone. ;)

    Summing up comments into one.
    1. What's wrong with using heat and melt them instead? It's easier that way! -Apparently, heating up lipsticks will change the formula of them. Basically, the NYX lipsticks won't be the same anymore.
    2. I think she's being too clean! What's up with her? -She is a professional make up artist, and the lipsticks are going to be used by multiple clients. That's why she tries to be as clean as possible; she doesn't just want their clients to look good, she wants their clients to be in a good condition too!
    3. Not messy? THIS IS MESSY! -In my opinion, I think what she meant by not messy is not getting lipstick stains everywhere on all the surface you're using, including your hands, etc. _She didn't say the result will be flat-looking lipstick pallette, did she?_
    The surface of the lipstick pallettes won't be smooth once she uses it, anyway.
    4. Why won't she just buy an actual lipstain pallette instead? And, that's such a waste of lipsticks!
    -Because she doesn't want to? It would still be an actual waste of lipsticks if she bought a pallette instead. This can also help people in low budget to turn their lipsticks into more melted and turn them into pallettes! Let's take all of this to the bright and sunmy side~

    Since some people don't understand the point I'll sum it up for you. The reason why she is mushing them up into pans is because she is a makeup artist.
    1. It is more sanitary (imagine a makeup artist putting a lipstick directly on you that has been on other clients).
    2. It saves space, all the lipsticks are together now.

    Okay, people complaining about her palette not looking "clean" or "smooth" should make their own damn palettes and make theirs smooth. Go ahead, melt down the chemical properties of your lipsticks that have ingredients which should not receive more heat or heat at all(depending on the lipstick).

  • @sserafimies

    the palette might look messy but if you're using it consistently it will look messy anyway. using heat on lip products is bad because it alters the consistency and formula of the palette. no makeup artists lip palette ever looks perfect bc they dig their brushes and spatulas into them to dig them out so, no, this isn't a waste of lipstick and is a very efficient way to store lip product.

    While scrolling through the comments, it disgusts me to see how some people can be. Just read the description if you wanna find out why she did this; if not, read this comment, and try and prove me wrong. If you want to know why she did this, it’s because she’s a MUA, and they need to keep their supplies sanitary. They also need to be able to keep all of their lipsticks THEMSELVES (the actual product, not the tube) at hand as quick as possible without as much clutter. This may look messy, but would you want a MUA to whip out a lipstick tube and apply lipstick (with a brush or not) on you after someone else has used it? Think about it. It may look messy, but it’s the cleaner, safer, more professional, quick, and compact way to go about this. Also, this is ENCOURAGED by other makeup artists and, as a few people had commented, is how this (depotting and putting lipstick in the palette) is taught in BEAUTY SCHOOL for people who are working towards becoming a PROFESSIONAL MUA. I cannot emphasize this more. If you don’t like the way it looks, then ok; you don’t like it. But that’s no reason to say that this isn’t a good thing to do or how much product she is wasting, nor is it the slightest bit intelligent to say that you wouldn’t let her do your makeup with a CLEAN and SANITARY palette.
    Ok, sorry for that long comment. But seriously, this was bothering me to no extent, and I felt the need to say something.
    P.S.: if you want to comment something rude to me or something, don’t bother; I won’t get any notifications for any comments.

    Thank you for showing an easy way to depot lipstick. I was watching another video and the makeup artist talked about depotting lipsticks but she did not show how to do this. I had never heard of this and didn't know what she was talking about. I searched depotting lipsticks on RUclips and your video came up in the search. I am not a makeup artist but I have tons of lipsticks that are just thrown into a plastic container. It never occurred to me that the lipsticks could be taken out of the tubes and placed in storage containers with dividers. Thanks again for creating such a user-friendly video.

      Ime makeup artists do that but, *sigh* just let me explain to the uneducated, non-professional makeup artists. OK, first of all NOT ALL MAKEUP ARTISTS DO THAT, web you take out the am oh amount of lipstick you a want to apply, it does NOT give the same look and feeling as a lipstick palette and lipstick. If you use a scraper to apply lipstick to certain people it will become chunky and messy. Get your facts straight

    God people are hating on this but don't understand the purpose. This girl is making it easier to keep them together & so it's a lot easier to choose what color she's gonna use. I think a lot of makeup brands have kinda suckered us all on the packaging. We all want the packaging/name, but it's about how the products work, not how they look in packaging. I think that liquid lipsticks have kinda killed regular lipsticks off so much the pass few years & it's a lot more easy to use them, plus most You can see the color & everything in the tube. I don't think makeup artist should be allowed to do whatever they like / whatever makes it easier for them to get the products faster. Like if this girl was a makeup artist I don't think it would be cool for her to be looking for some shade for like 10 minutes or longer, when she can just pull this out & then she's done. Yeah it's not the most pretty thing in the world, but we all want the product also for the packaging. I think true makeup artist do this because they care about the art side, not some dumb packaging.

    I think this is awesome. I like the messy inside the palette look..because I mean honestly when you scrap it out it's going to have lumps and whatnot.. I care more about sanitary and what the color looks like on my lips not what it looks like in the MUA palette. You did great! And the no heat method is awesome.. you would think heat would mess up the lipstick anyways. Keep doing you girl!! because obviously you're a sanitary MUA and that means a lot to clients. 👏🏽👍🏽💄

    I have over 75 lipsticks and while I use them all, it is a pain to store them. I'm considering depotting for the sake of saving shelf space. I don't really care that some may be wasted because I highly doubt I will ever finish any of them anyways.

      Um, use more punctuation. And if you didn't know, they won't get messed up because she is a professional makeup artist and she is going to clean the brushes off. Imagine a makeup artist using a lipstick directly on you that has lipstick stains and has been used by other people. Would you really want that or just pick a color out of a palette that is sanitary and clean?

    I see why a lot of people would think this is wasteful or silly. Personally I don't get lipstick palettes, but I understand your explanation of use in a pro makeup kit for clientele. For individual use I just think lipsticks are easier to apply/reapply and better for on the go.

      The idea of this is for pro MUAs to be able to stock their kit with a variety of lip colors with the minimum amount of space taken up. It's not necessarily as practical for personal use, as the average person would probably rather throw one tube of lipstick into their purse. But, for a kit it's a good use of space to include a lot of product in a sanitary way. :)

    • @beautybygita2917
      @beautybygita2917  7 лет назад +18

      I tried to minimize the amount of air bubbles, which is part of why I smashed them on the metal palette first before transferring to the plastic palette, because I wanted to be able to 'smash' them into place with minimal air bubbles/space in them - though I'm sure it's not perfect.

    • @beautybygita2917
      @beautybygita2917  7 лет назад +33

      Because this way I can put to good use items that I already purchased, so rather than spending money on a new palette I can re-purpose lipsticks I already own. :) as far as cost effectiveness, if you don't already own a lot of lipsticks I would definitely try the ABH palette or another lip palette as it's much cheaper than using individual products if you're just going to go out and buy them new.

    I guess this might be more practical for some makeup artists; however in my opinion as a client, I would prefer to see the brands the artist is using on their original containers. I think it says a lot of the makeup artist how she/he sells her/his services. The way you’re carrying your products kinda gives the impression you’re a cheap makeup artist.

      Mahii Tistic
      Yes, but if you think about it this way, she is actually still saving product. She goes into the tube and gets all of it out, and she scraps off a large majority off the pallete. Plus, it wasn't a lot. Maybe 3-6 very thin coats. And when you use the stick directly, it wastes more product than the actual pallete did.
