Neat little radio. Grundig has generally made some very nice stuff. I use a Grundig Sattelite 800 in my shack and my bugout bag kit has a Grundig G3. Both of them have a sync detector that is virtually unmatched in most portables. Thanks for the fun demo.
My Eton is almost completely immune to most interference in my home. I live in a fringe area for daytime AM so its great reception ability was obvious within a minute of turning it on. It also receives most of the FM stations within 40-50 miles without even using the whip which surprised me. I got the new version though so I don`t really know if they changed anything.
I got the new version of this, the Elite Traveler, and it seems they worked out all the bugs. AM reception is excellent. I`m very happy! (EDIT) -- The new version still has the display interference on AM when using the signal meter. I don`t see the purpose of using the meter though, I use my ears, and simply turned it off. This radio has incredible reception on all bands. I don`t use earphones so I don`t notice the slight hiss in the background. Reception is what`s important to me and this radio is as good as any on AM reception. The quirks of the radio I can live with. My goal in buying a backup for my Grundig G6 was finding a radio with shortwave and AM with reception that matched or exceeded it and the Eton is even more sensitive on AM. Will it last? That remains to be seen. I now have two amazing portable AM radios though and am very happy. The speaker could use more bass for listening to FM but it`s great for talk radio and has plenty of volume and has a pleasant sound. My Grundig has a voice/music switch and has a slightly better sound though with more bass. I hate the muting on tuning though. My Grundig doesn`t suffer from that problem and it spoiled me. I can live with it though on the AM band but tuning the shortwave bands are a chore since the search functions on the radio only scan the broadcast bands.
When I got the PL-660, I gave it away during the raffle at the Winter SWL Fest. However I have realized that I missed having it so I ordered a used one. It came in yesterday, but I may have to return because it sounds like the speaker on this unit is blown out, especially when I crank it above 18 on the volume. Not sure I remember my old unit sounding like it.
Well upon further inspection, the speaker is indeed blown out. I assume that this model was a trade in or defective. I will definitely return it to Amazon and once I get my credit back...I will either opt into getting it new or perhaps try the Sangean ATS-405 which I haven't had to take a look at.
I have two new field bt's and this traveler III. They are very sensitive and super quiet on mw. These radios are right up there with the sr II And ep pro in my shootout test.
I have heard good things about the newer field BTs, the one with the Grundig Edition removed. I enjoy using my original CC Radio and CC Radio SW for MW DXing. Great radios. The Etons are good when you get a well made one. I had four Satellits before I found one with no issues.
Brian 1610 AM DX Longwave on 3 kHz or 1 kHz step (153-513), MW on 9 kHz step or 1 kHz step (522-1620), 10 kHz step or 1 kHz step (520-1710), SW covers 2.3 MHz to 26.1 MHz (1 or 5 kHz step), FM step on 10 kHz or 0.1 Mhz step (64-108 / 76-108 MHz). International version of this radio have DAB tuner built in. Black one have pouch case, and silver one have magnets behind it and leather magnetic case.
I looked everywhere on the internet, I was unable to find the traveler lll. Eton Grundig web site replied no information available ?? Can anyone help me locate it?
Very good review, noticed this radio has a signal/noise meter that looks just like many of the Tecsun radios.Would it be possible to compare the radio's performance in receiving a signal based on this meter.
I put the 310ET in a 90 degree adjacent placement so the two would not effect each other. I tuned to a strong station and the reading on the meter is identical on both radios. imgur.com/a/x5bDUPH
todderbert Sounds like a good objective test to see how well the radio's are picking up a signal relative to each other. I had this radio and compared it to my Tecsun pl 390 doing the same thing on somewhat difficult stations to receive and the Tecsun 390 consistently did better looking at the meters and by the more subjective test by listening with my ears. Wonder how the various Tecsun radios such as the 380,310,and 606 do relative to each other when listening to more difficult stations.
Thanks for another great review! I am collecting radios and there is no Eton in Germany so it would be interesting to buy? How can I imagine the radio? Comparable to the quality/reception of the old CCSkywaye? ( ok, air is mssing? What would you say?
The price on the Eton is less then half of the Skywave, so that makes it very appealing. If you want to listen to the AIR band look at the RADIWOW R-108 as an option: ruclips.net/video/FL9vU4VBuo4/видео.html

Thank you very much Peter Atkinson for donating this little beauty for Mr Todderbert to review. Great review on a nice little radio 👍 Tam.
Thank you Tam, and a big thanks to Peter, he rocks!
The antenna design is brilliant.

I looked into that G3 , looks awesome.

I have a Traveller III. Works very well on all bands. I’m happy you got no noise on AM 830, Todd. I like the radio even more now!
It did a great job handling that interference.

My new one just came in the mail yesterday! It is a great little portable.
Awesome! Did you have a problem with your old one?

Very cool little radio. I had a GII traveler and it had all the same buttons and features, seems like. Less memories, i think. Thanks.
Your Welcome Sam, thanks for watching.
Nice radio with RDS on FM

It's a sensitive radio for sure. I enjoy tuning the bands with this one.
Can you please make a review for Eton FRX3??
I looked everywhere on the internet, I was unable to find the traveler lll. Eton Grundig web site replied no information available ?? Can anyone help me locate it?
The Elite Traveler replaced this model. I would try eBay: bit.ly/EtonTravIII
Great video as usual :)

What's the point of 78-108 when stations are not on those frequencies
Japan uses 76-95MHz.
