This album was a gamechanger for me and my mates, so fantastic- so accurate- so evil- and yet so seductive- a complete crowd pleaser from peter taegtgren- back from when he formed " THE ABYSS STUDIOS"
The funny thing is that this was just the funn project for Peter and ppl took it so seriously, its a very nice music though. Is he recorded all of this by himself? Sounds like he got somebody from Marduk or Dark Funneral on guitars 😅
Yes, this is a masterpiece, if you don't see it now, just wait and listen more. That cover song of Hellhammer "Massacre", let's see: only 10 years passed, and Peter Tagtgren headed the Recording, Engineering, Mixing and Producing for Celtic Frost final album in 2005.
before this album I was a strictly a death metal fanatic!!! this album is what got me interested in black metal, after this album I started getting into Marduk (big time!!), Dark Funeral, Burzum, Immortal, Mayhem, Abigor, Throne Of Ahaz, and it goes on and on and on...…..still to this day because of this album that Peter from Hypocrisy made!!!

Man it's so catchy, like it's almost beauty wrapped in evil. I fucking love it! Vocals sounds like demons and skeletons and evil shit screaming at you literally from abyssal hell while giant pillars of flames arise and burn the geysers that once flowed with souls.
What’s up with being a dickhead dude? It’s not like this is posted everywhere, not everyone bought this when it was released like we did, and I barely remember this being advertised or even talked about, and when Peter would discuss the Abyss, he would only ever mention summon the beast (also a killer album).
This is literally the only way to hear Peter play drums. He's said many times that he's a drummer before anything else but it's so hard to find examples.

Penetralia was almost entirely recorded by Peter (drums). Lars recorded just 2 or 3 songs....
The Album cover is pure death metal, and you can still hear a lot of death metal in the riffs, yet, the black metal elements were actually superior to most of what was coming out at the time. I first heard this 20 years ago, and it holds up so well.
Even though the music doesn't sound the same the cover picture speaks a thousand words. No truer words in that picture have been spoken. I want freedom and a human rights lawyer.
"A melodic black metal formed of liquid strumming melodies which intertwine to harmonize in suggestion of spaces beneath its surface, creating an ambience in which the violence of the music is forgotten in the breathtaking motion of its melody. Twisting from a simple chromatic polarity of notes a melody will gain its energy as it disengages from a dominant direction to become dissonant and resolve in a prolonged statement of its harmony with the ambiguous and illdefined minor modes, suggesting as does the simple but direct format of the rest of this music a truth obscure but alive. These songs vary the "skins" of their themes as structured from rhythm and counterpoint with lucidity and verve. If seen as culturally inspired, these songs almost represent opera for the technological information age, in which a vast story spills itself into chaos before the audience but is only resolved in suggestion and an angry, defiant, independent and anarchistic duality. In a style similar to Ancient or Emperor, this band drapes lengthy melodies over boxlike atmospheric percussion. Weaving minor harmonies into each riff progression to build its tension for culmination, the Abyss are unafraid to throw their inertia into climactic melodies of counterthematic structure. Outlined in shrikes of mortal alienation on top of a blasting tirade of even percussion, this music mixes simple grindcore extremity into the sense of melody that gave black metal the voice of epic poetry."
@@atavism-dream I think that Peter Tâgtgren got inspired to do some more fast on that album, because of Dark Funeral and Marduk, which he recorded in his studio, just maybe. But yes i like this album way more.

Una preciada joya del black metal...de aquellos discos que no se tocaran mas
Fast, heavy and melodic - an absolute classic of 90s Swedish black metal.
To my surprise, Peter Taegtgren was playing the drums in this album though he is a singer and guitarist of "Hypocrisy" and "Pain!"
A trick : watch series at flixzone. Been using it for watching all kinds of movies these days.
@Kevin Drew Yea, I've been watching on flixzone for years myself :D
Better than Hypocrisy, which this is the members side project
