Even though Andrey said in his interview that Grigor acted like a champion gave this point to him, I think Andrey in the first place acted like a real champion offered to replay it. He never gives enough credit to himself but let's take a moment to appreciate his maturity at this young age❤ love them both
Totally agree. Grigor makes me proud to be a Bulgarian 🇧🇬 guy. For sure he didn't reach the level that matches his potential, but he is a true fighter. Andrey, as well, great personality, can do much more with this physical characteristics. Wish them both a GS.
@@rosensimeonov5784I think Grigor reached his full potential … in a good week when the stars were aligned he could beat the big 3 or 4 and won the tournament. They absolutely can make any call they want but the net has sensors in it and so they rely on them a lot. If the sensor doesn’t go off and they didn’t watch correctly they won’t call it. Laziness to be honest
That was such an obvious let, I was shocked when I watched it. The sound of the ball clipping the net was so clear. I guess the only thing I could say for the umpire is maybe he genuinely does not pay attention to whether the serve hits the net because the system is supposed to call it? But he still should be watching the lines and had to have heard that ball clip the net. Great sportsmanship by both but honestly Grigor should’ve taken the point replay. It was such a key point, and Rublev would still have his first serve anyways.
Sometimes with let's that barely clip the net, I think it's actually harder to spot sitting in line and above the net where the umpire sits, hence why before electronic calling it was deemed necessary a line judge sat level with the net to monitor let's ... I think there is an issue of over reliance on electronic calling but it also isn't helped that if that fails, the umpire isn't in the best position to spot it...
So to sum up, the machine that is supposed to help clearly malfunctions and no one is allowed to do anything about it. This is a very good example of the trajectory our world is taking, where people who no one knows and no one sees decide what the rules are, and then let automatic systems enforce it, all under the guys of "helping", yet at the same time under threat of punishment for those who disobey. And how much would you fine them for one bad call out of 147 points played? Do you have any idea how much these guys get paid? It's not the same as when players get fined for far more egrigious behaviour and they can shrug it off. A gold badge umpire of which there are (as of last year) only 21 men and 10 women in the world, typically gets paid between $70-80k per year. Bear in mind, of course, that they're spending much of that year travelling to some of the world's most expensive cities. And they regularly have to put up with players ranting at them. I'd like to see tennis umpires behaving more like rugby referees myself and give rude players both barrels! Then all we need is to make sure nobody gets a sudden urge to sportsmanship… Jesus, this is a lot of bribe money to fix one point, huh?
