I just received this for my birthday from my daughter. This was a brilliant explanation of how to play. It’s been over 10 years since I played the original Carcassonne! Thank You
I wasn't aware of a 2nd edition coming, so thanks for the tutorial! I actually really enjoy this one. I love the new tile artwork and was surprised by the slight rule tweaks from the first edition. I'd recommend this for anyone who might be overwhelmed by the original and its many expansions.
I’m newer to the world of board games and had seen versions of Carcassonne around but it never caught my attention until this video! Now I want to buy both this and the original! Thank you for your videos and always so thoroughly explaining the games!
Agreed. Also setting up the tiles vertically is such a great touch. FYI you can play this on Board Game Arena. Is it a premium game, so unless you have a premium account you can't start a game, but you can always join it even with a free account.
@@kylenelson6141 I am already a huge fan of Carcassonne, as hard as it is to get a hold of many of the expansions in my country. But this one is available and I am picking it up for sure, the whole huts and animals on the fields and bonus tiles seem pretty fun!
Thanks for this video! I accidentally purchased this version (oops! Thought it was Stone Age). Now I can’t wait to get the shrink wrap off the box and play it. It’s a beautiful game. My partner and I just tried the original Carcassonne last night. Both look like they will be good to play with the grandkids and folks new to board games.
I love your explanations. Very easy to understand... and joyful ;-) Congrats. I bought this game because of you. I will start playing today with my kids
My man that is a nice flannel shirt! Also I'm so glad to finally have be able to get a physical copy of hunters and gatherers! I've only ever played it on tabletop sim
Question We have a few , Who gets the points at the end of the game regarding the pit traps if you are sharing a field ? Is it only the player that initially put the card down or is it both the players. And if the person that had placed the tile had then been forced by the sharman card to remove their meeple from the grassland would the remaining opponents score at the end even though they never placed the card ? Similar with the other raft , if a river system got joined up in the course of play so it was shared is it only the person who had played the raft card get the extra points or do both players score the same points?
I found there to be several other differences, but that doesn't mean those differences will be enough for you to see it as different. 1) Grasslands scoring 2) Lake Systems 3) Huts 4) Scoring incomplete sections at the end of the game 5) The Menhir tiles 6) Theme I think it's also important to remember that not everyone will have played Carcassonne, so for some, this will be the version of the game they are more drawn to (whether for theme or mechanics), and will play first. Either way, thanks for checking out the video.
For me is the „Hunters-Edition“ the better one. It is very similar to the original, but a little more complex, so you do not need an Extension. And the artwork is imho much better than in the original.
@@martinpaulsen7211 Yes its true. It lools like it combine and streamlined some of the extensions. The problem for me is that thematically it dont works at all, I'm kind of OCD about that. Should have been called "Hunters and Gatherers" with a small "a carcassonne game" subtitle. ;P

You're very welcome, I hope you have a great time playing! (and belated happy birthday :) )
I like how smooth you put the box lid on there at the end... without even looking.

Glad you checked it out Ryan - as a long time Carcassonne fan, I really liked the adjustments here too.
Carcassone is such a great game. This video definitely makes we want to explore this franchise once again. I love the way the tiles look.
I hadn't known much about this before considering it for a video, and I was really pleased to see the extra things they added in.

Carcassonne was the game that brought me back into the hobby! I hope you enjoy these games Vivi :)
Loved the new animations and highlights on the video! Another great tutorial Rodney, as always! This one goes to my wishlist :D

It's a really nice twist on the farms from Carcassonne.
Thank you - so glad you enjoyed!

Glad this mistaken purchase turning into a good surprise - have a great time playing :)
We love carcassonne. Definitely need to purchase this in the future
If you like Carcassonne, I think you'll dig it!

I hope you all have a great time playing - thanks for the kind words!
Menhir: (noun) a tall upright stone of a kind erected in prehistoric times in western Europe.
Men don't hear. We talk and women should listen.
This looks pretty good! Seems like it addresses some of the issues I have with normal Carc. It's on BGA, too!
That's right! Have fun playing :)
Loved the original game of Carcassonne and I bet this one might be one I'll enjoyed too. Love this time placing system and the meeples.
Thanks for checking it out - glad you enjoyed what you saw!
You are amazing! I’ve learnt playing so many games with your help ❤️
That's so nice of you to say Marina - happy gaming!
What an excellent presentation.
Thank you so much Clarence!
Really great explanation!! Thank you!!! 🙏🙏
So glad you liked it :)
Very nicely explained! Thank you!

Hi Les, I’m travelling right now and not near the game to look up the rules, or double check the video to explains those details. Sorry!
Plz upload more vids on the rodney smith channel we miss them! Also you are so good at explaining games
Thanks JD. I hope to add some more videos on the Rodney channel as soon as I get some spare time :)
I'm having serious Deja Vu...
profjubjubs I think he had to reupload it because he said cities instead of forests at one point during the video
Yep!
It's back!
Ta-dah!
More content!!
And more on the way!
I see you caught a yellow meeple slacking on tape. 4:40
Yep :)
I think I am caught in a time loop
The loop is resolved :)
That one napping yellow meeple...
You were the first to comment on it - you get 10 WiP points!
@@WatchItPlayed haha yes! Great video as always, thank you
How many take's does a Rodney take before Rodney takes the take?
That study has not commenced;
I still don't have final statistics on the woodchuck chucking wood...
Weird; I've never been interested in the original game, but for some reason I'm drawn to this version.
Sometimes it just takes a slight twist!
Where do you buy your flannel?
Anywhere I find it :)
I prefer this version over the original. But maybe I havent played the original enough.
Perhaps this one is just more to your liking!
@@WatchItPlayed I'm also happy and sad at the same time that they removed the most broken tile. The one where you can steal all the hunting areas.
I wonder how many times Rodney had to throw these boxes to catch it upwards...
Are you suggesting it's not the first time, every time?! *gasps*
@@WatchItPlayed If it wasnt, the boxes would be crushed and torn.
What is the special effect of the shaman? It seems to me it doesn't help you at all in this game..
Do you have a time stamp to the section of the video you're asking about?
Can this play with Basic Carcassonne?
I don't believe so.
😎😎
It is good I am first to write a comment on this video
Mother russia would be proud
Well done :)
So aside from the menhir special tiles, this is EXACTLY carcassonne. What is the purpose of this game?
I found there to be several other differences, but that doesn't mean those differences will be enough for you to see it as different.
1) Grasslands scoring
2) Lake Systems
3) Huts
4) Scoring incomplete sections at the end of the game

6) Theme

@@nEvErLoOz yes, you are right. It is not very thematic, but the original is neither.
