An F3 Ursus would be a game changer
There is one technically but it’s not called the ursus. On recon 1 there’s a f3 with g10 and cromax for like $800 or something like that
@@Cayde-6-that's only like $100ish less than the regular price though I think, nowhere near the same level of discount as this. The game changer would be if they could do one for 5-600.

Metal complex what’s your opinion do you think that my money would be better spent on a Shirogorov at 775 or should I just spend the extra 100 or 125 for a hog house veli or a holt bladeworks haptic?
In Russia Crowmax steal appeared on OwlKnife fixed blade knives approximately at the same time it appeared on Shiros. I have tried it on a kitchen knife from OwlKnife with convex grind, and it's a really nice steel. Some say it is somewhere in between Elmax and M390.
I bought this same knife. Didn’t blow me away. Maybe I’m not understanding what the specialness is. Help me understand. And it doesn’t deploy easily WTF.

I finally got to handle my first Shirogorov yesterday and I was definitely impressed. The size compared to the feel made it seem like a small knife but was definitely not and filled the hand perfectly. It had crazy smooth action and extremely snappy but the detent was a bit stronger than i expected. It was only a week old and an HVAC technician was carrying for everyday use so who knows what kind of gunk was in there messing it up. Even so, after handling that 1100 dollar beauty I feel the Ursus line is perfect for someone who wants that but can’t quite hit that price threshold. I guarantee I’ll get a Shiro within a year but it might have to be in the 600-800 dollar realm so the Ursus line is spot on! Thanks for introducing me to this and showing how great they still are even at a much lower price point!
Just so you know, you can make payments on EKnives if you would want one of these EKnives editions or one of the g-10 versions. I'm not a person that can afford to spend $775 on a knife either, but because they have sizzle payments, it made it acquirable for me since it only costs me $194 every 2 weeks. The best part is, once you make the first payment, the knife is shipped out to you, so you have your knife before it's even close to being paid off. hell, my last 3 knives ( this exact stonewashed Shirogorov, Chaves Ultramar Redencion with the blue topo pattern and blue ano pocket clip/ backspacer and the Protech Whiskers Magic 2) were bought that way tbh. Lmfao
The retailer specific patterns like the eknives and recon1 are goofy and not something I'd buy.

Who do you like more for the money; a Herman Sting or EKnives Ursus?
The Herman gets my vote.
I have the Herman Slim and they have different feel to them. I lean toward the Shiro. The Herman was ~$100 cheaper.
The only Shiro I have is the F3 Aquatic.
Trust me, it's insanely good, but is it worth the $1200+?
I have Grimsmos, Holts, Koenigs, Brown FSD, CKFs, and many other knives at this tier, and I think price-wise they should be around there ($800-$900).
i'd love to know more about the cromax...people say it's comp is el max but has anyone tested it at all? maybe not bc it's expensive af?
This eknibes quantum is probably a r1p because the r1p has mrbs and the ursus has srbs. Also the r1p has a pattern on the handle whereas the ursus has an inlay. Just my negative two cents.

They start at $600 on Recon1.
The F3 is my favorite model too because I like liner locks. It seems like you could make this one cost less by using G10. They’ve offered G10 F3s in the past at high prices but the G10 was textured quite a bit. Simpler G10 scales and even a less premium blade steel would bring costs down. So much of the appeal of a Shiro is in the action and fit/finish. These could be preserved. Recently Recon 1 offered a white G10 version. White’s not my thing and I would have dyed the scales but I’m afraid to take a Shiro apart. I’ve heard horror stories.
There are two g10 versions (not counting colours) of this on eknives, he talks about it in the first few minutes of the video. 😉

You can walk into any bathroom you want but I can’t get a left handed CLIP MOUNT on a premium knife.

You don’t need it, because they make left-handed versions of this knife, in full plain titanium
Some Ursus series have MRBS and some SRBS. Look before buying and know.
It looks like the ursus is actually ground higher, right where the decorative blade notch is cut out on the OG the ursus appears to fill some of that space with bevel. Can you measure or feel if it's any thinner behind the edge as a result or am I just being fooled by visual trick?
On clones.. I'm sure this is nothing you haven't heard before and might just be my own conscience salving justification, but one day I will have a genuine shiro and that intent would never have existed without the experience of a $100 clone being better than 95% of my collection. I think there's a reasonable number of people who recognise that although they're absolutely not the same, or even close to 'just as good', they're good enough and convincing enough to drive a lot of actual customers to shiro themselves. Ethically they're awful and I do still feel like I did the wrong thing, but I also don't lose much sleep over it personally, especially given how it changed my perspective.
I definitely think the standard Shirogorov f3 at $695 is a better deal and a much better knife. I had a Quantum ursus and I ended up sending it back. The detent was rediculously strong and that tip will break off pretty easy the way they made that so thin at the tip of the blade.
An F3 for $700? Are you talking about the “Outdoor” version with no pocket clip?
@@anthonyberardi8904 no, I'm talking f3ns but with single row bearings which work just as well as the MRBS IMO. Instead of carbon fiber overlays the standard has G-10 overlays over the same titanium frame and they use elmax where the NS uses m390. Basically the regular f3 is almost as good as the NS.
@@paulmills426 oh gotcha. They have too many letters/numbers for me to remember all the models lol I haven’t seen one yet that isn’t a work of art tho

@@jameshealy4594 I got my Shirogorov f3 on ebay actually and it was $650 new in box. Usually Shirogorov knives are sold above what they cost new on the secondary market but I got lucky and found someone that gave me a good deal. I would say keep checking Recon1, they seem to be one of the biggest Shirogorov dealers. Knife Center, Blade HQ also sell them. I'm sure there's more but I can't think of any right now.
Sergei Shirogorov seemed aloof at Blade Show but I’m betting it was due to a language barrier.

For what it's worth I believe it uses single row bearings vs the multi row mrbs used in the standard Quantum

I can attest to the EKnives edition Shirogorov having multirow bearings since 2 of them decided to fall out and roll off my table, causing them to be lost in my carpet the first time I took mine apart. Lol. Because of that, I decided to replace all the balls with ceramic balls, and tbh the ceramic balls actually made the action better than it was. Mind you, I did polish the bearing races when I 1st took it apart simply because the action was a little gritty. I'm sure that grittyness would've gone away once bearings started wearing a track in the races, but I'm impatient, so ya, I did my own thing. Lmfao
