So I’m making sure to comment, cause wow, there’s a few things... First of all, the highlight of the video, was when AJJ was commenting about the fight with JK being about the feelings for the girl or something, I was going “Oh no no” and THEN the meme video “That is not correct” haha just so on point!!!
2nd, I am sure a lot of armys have said and explained about the music video so I’ll go for the practice! -I Need U is not about a girl. RM wanted to say I need u friend but it didn’t sound right so he settled with girl
-Pay attention to surroundings and settings
-Pay attention to pairings (which member is with which)
-basically pay attention to EVERYTHING
-Watch every video UNTIL THE END! BTS is like Marvel-stay after the credits
-Jin is a pivotal character
-Each member has their own story but they intertwine

gosh I remember this, Bigbang had just come out with Loser and they were doing their Made album that summer, so they were expected to win everything. I remember being so scared that BTS were gonna be overlooked again but when they won it was amazing and so well deserved

I’m a rap hardcore fan, I love all types and genres, from metal to jazz, I’m a hater and a lover, and I need you, turn me from a hater to an army.
Just to clarify I’m not a hardcore hater or lover, I never joined mass show of hatred or trending stuff, more like, “yeah, I’m sure it’s a one time thing, a fluke”. But this made me love them, then heard Bulletproof pt2, then I know they are something big.
Just in case you wanna know what made me a hater, RM in No More Dreams, I really thought he was extremely talented with the right Rap voice that Koreans lacks so much off, and I really thought he was a wasted potential in Big Hit, should have went to a bigger production like JYP. Boy was I wrong ahahaha.

Just a quick note, the lyrics have very little to no correlation to the story or mv. I Need U actually isn't about a girl or typical romantic relationship. Namjoon said the lyrics were originally I Need U Friend, but it didn't flow or sound right, so he stuck with girl.
Try to pay attention to as much as you can to what you can catch, there will be a lot of recourring things/themes. I Need U is my all-time fav mv from them: The dark yet very relatable subjects, the acting, the intensity etc... Just emmaculate.
The BTS universe is WAAAAAAAY more complicated then you think, if you wanna get into it and actually fully understand you gotta be fully invested. It’s not just the music videos that are part of the storyline. I’m talking a ton of other music videos, short films, teasers, hidden messages, physical notes you need to read through from their point of views, you need to keep track of dates and times of when everything takes place, theories, etc. if you really wanna do it you should find a reliable source that tells you very specifically what order to intake everything.
You really do have to be willing to dedicate serious time and energy if you’re going to understand it bc it’s confusing as hell and ITS STILL GOING ON, can’t wait for the game to come out
May I add even the concert VCRs has something to do with the story line.
The only thing confusing are the dates in the notes xD.. once you read everything and put them in order is pretty easy.. the videos are confusing at firs, bc they need to read the webtoon.

I was flirting with BTS for a while, you know mic drop, dope, etc. I even heard bulletproof back in the day and was like oh that’s cute. When I saw this video for the first time, I became fully invested! Down the rabbit hole I went with the theories and I realized this was more than song and dance and pop! J-Hope was left by his mother after giving him a candy when he was a child(if you remember the snickers in the Fake Love MV).
Jimin developed some kind of a phobia from a childhood experience but his parents just think it was a mental issue.
Taehyung's mother left them and he has an abusive dad.
Jungkook has a divorced parents.
They have their own struggles but when they met at a high school, they developed friendship. But life happened......

@@naminakamura2713 This story was made by BigHit. Its a developing story since I Need U era and still running until now, they call it BTS Universe. BigHit has actually released a book called 'The Notes' which contains the storyline and some of these storylines are reflected in BTS' MVs
JK’s step brother bullies him while their parents just watch. 😢
V's part in the video is of high impact because we all know that in real life he has never hit anyone, nor has raise his voice to somebody and is always quiet, a humble professional, singer, dancer and actor.
JiMin's and J-Hope's part is about doing harm to themselves is the opposite to the real them, we hurt seeing how they're acting as if giving up and end up alone and seemingly no one caring.
We all know that if Jungkook is the golden maknae, with his physic, youth, habilities and so on, in this video all of that it doesn't matter and keeps our attention.
Suga has always been a rebel, bad boy look, tough guy, and he just apply that to himself in his role.
RM, having rejection, deception and too busy as he always is, it's not that he don't care, he's become used to it.

The LEGENDARY storyline. All the songs from the hyyh era are so heartbreaking, not just because the story itself is so deep and full of strong emotions... That times, all fans of the big3 groups called BTS a disgrace to K-pop, the boys were real outcasts and they had no support other than a small number of armies...It was a very difficult time, and reviewing and re-listening to songs from the HYYH era makes my heart ache...

RM: Can be seen at gas station getting treated poorly by customers. Is seen in a pair with V
SUGA: In hotel room majority of the music video. Lights room on fire with gasoline.
JUNGKOOK: Bumps into two people and ends up getting beat up by them. Later is seen with a car coming full speed at him.
V: Is seen in pair with RM. Woman is seen getting hit (I’ll let you figure out what he is to her) and V grabs an alcohol bottle that was with multiple other bottles using it to stab and kill man who was hurting her.
JIMIN: In a bath tub? Lol I don’t think I can explain him without saying anything
J-HOPE: Taking pills in the beginning of video and falls down later on bridge. This is very important to the storyline
JIN: basically is in a room the whole time and is seen a lot with flowers and flower petals themselves

1. Jin is pivotal character in the story line,
2. Pay attention to the paired members, it is very important,
3. Always watch the videos to the end, because in the end there can be important scenes that many don't see,
4. Pay attention to every detail because everything is important and everything means something,
5. The stories of the members individually run through the whole story line, so pay attention to what is happening to whom and what is the atmosphere around him,
6. If you read the lyrics, it mostly has nothing to do with the story line as it almost never has anything to do with the girl as in this case (RM wanted the lyrics to go: I need you friend, but it didn't sound nice so he put: I need you girl),
7. Watch the videos in order to better understand the story line,
8. The characters in the story line have members names but their life stories in the story line are not related to the real lives of the members ... the only connection is that they are happy when they are together.

A little correction guys. It's actually I need you Friend, but RM said that the word friend didn't go well with the vibe and melody of the song, and therefore he replaced it with the word girl. If you have watched the BTS highlight reel, there you will see that each member is paired up with a girl, and even there, it isn't actually supposed to mean a girl , since the girl actually represents their other partner, the other member with whom they are connected with, in the BTS storyline
LOLLLLL, I just paused after that little clip of " the comment section right now" and laughed through my tears cause this MV and song I can't help but cry still cause of the storyline! being so strong and yea a few things weren't' correct but ima let someone else say it all.
Its funny how they say "I need you girl" when its actually not about a girl. RM once said that its supposed to be "I need you friend". They changed it to girl because it sounds better lmaooo

I’ve been saying Bangtan Universe for months!!! Its a lot of effort to truly follow it. Theories are still being made as we speak. You should start with Celeste’s videos where she summaries it for you; because if you go by Smeraldo notes and all the MVs in order you may get very confused and it takes a LOT of time haha. Every little details may give clues to sth they do few years later in the future including their music/ MV. Thats why BTS is so much more special than normal artists, KPOP or not. It’s a maze and A WORLD CLASS mystery/ thriller. Welcome to the rabbit hole - if you choose to jump in! 💜

Guys, your reactions to BTS is so wonderful to watch. I'm a 60 some year old women who's daughter got into BTS the year this video came out. Thank goodness I had her to explain it. It takes time to absorb everything but so worth it. Their message about mental health is so needed and the love yourself campaign so vital. For young people they really have their fingers on the pulse of what our young people and people in general are experiencing. I thankfully got to experience their concert ,in N.J. before covid, and so glad we did. It was mesmerizing. My daughter got me into them as well. She'd been working on me for a couple of years, then late 2019 she had me watch one of their concerts...well my bias is V...bias wreckers are Jk and Jimin, lol.

Omg, I'm 40 and I got same thoughts. I am just so fangirling over them. Now, I'm using their songs and music videos in my Literature classes because of their lyrics and cinematography. I fell hard for BTS.
60-year old ARMY here! My daughter has been ARMY since 2014 and I became ARMY in May 2019 after watching their performance of Boy With Love on The Voice finale. I’m jealous that you got to see them in concert! We have tickets to the Atlanta concert that got “postponed”...FLOOR SEATS! We still have them and are praying that we will get to use them soon! I love my boys!! I didn’t have a bias for a long time. My daughter said that she thought my bias would be JHope, because we are so much alike, but Suga has kind of stolen my heart. I love them all though and can’t wait for the day that we get to see them LIVE!!!

In BTS history, I Need U is THAT song. I Need U is THAT MV. Not just because this is the song that gave them their first win, but the song itself, the music, the mv, the story...and even the dance. I always got goosebump whenever I hear this song. This is the song that made me wonder who is BTS. Then I began searching about them..and here I am now 3 years after still an army that always support them.
I Need U is the very first BTS song to win First Place on music shows, that's why this is very memorable and special to ARMYs. 💜
OMG! you all got me in tears going back over the series. YOU HAVE TO HURY AND GO OVER THE STORY LINE. I can not listen to I Need you and not have a tear in my eye, knowing what I know about it. Yes they are all happy when they are together and they have such trying depressing times when alone. This is their dark times during the story line. That is what the Wings era was about. It was hands down their best Era. I always get the line up wrong with which video you should watch first. Im sure someone in the Watcherfam has the correct lineup. The V situation is that his father is an alcoholic and he beats him and his sister. The mother is not in the picture. Not sure if she passed away or left them because of the husband, but V could not take it any longer and takes matters into his own hands. Of course XCeleste has the explained videos that will help. But it is a whole other rabbit hole you will have to go down. Its part of BTS, you have to get to it. Love you guys, thanks

The BU is very complicated, drawing on literally an endless source of literature, history, science, philosophy, psychology, art, all weaving together a very unique story of the characters' experiences in this story. As mentioned before, JIN is the lynch pin of it all. There are many videos and other media that are included in the BU, but one that people want so much to be part of it but is NOT is Spring Day. That has its own tragic story to tell and stands alone; trust me, you do not need any more confusion than already exists. The BTS Effect is a good place to start; it's very thorough but not too chaotic to follow along. She has a couple of very helpful videos, too. And hard to believe because I love your reactions so much, but this was one of the best reaction vids I've seen you do; you were so shocked, esp at Tae's scene. it's a beautiful, deep rabbit hole without final answers, but totally worth checking out. Just so you know when they are saying 'girl' they are talking about each other. Not a girl. It's just sounds better using girl. So this is really about how they need each other and in the video when they are together they are happy but apart they are suffering.
Oh my! This MV, era, story and all was so heartbreaking to go through. Back then i was literally crying coz of these boys. Yet this era was their/our most memorable one because they got their very first win in Korean show, which back then it was such a big deal for a group specially since they've debuted in 2013 but got their first win in 2015, its like a way to know youve been recognized or something. After that first win, where all Armys and BTS cried, everything started going great for them. But of course challenges came along as well, controversies, misunderstandings, plagiarism allegations, etc. But thankfully our boys were strong and went through everything together, learned and became wise and humble as they've always been. Im so proud of being their fan, i always knew they'd achieve a lot.

I believe the lyrics were supposed to be I Need U friend, but it didn't flow right so it was changed to I Need U girl. The song really doesn't have much to do with the video because yes this video is part of the Bangtan Universe storyline.

Every relationship and struggle that comes along with it. Even the relationship between you and your mental health. Just things teens go thru :)
Most of Bts earlier songs, are with Jimin's adlibs and highnotes. I have been with them since 2014, Jimin has some of the most amazing vocals.
So I Need U is an interesting video. It doesn’t have anything to do with romantic relationships. The video is supposed to showcase how strong they are together and how bad they are when they are apart from each other. That’s why they are so happy together, and alone you see their demons and their struggles. Just dive right into the Bangtan Universe. It’s so sad but it’s amazing as well. I adore it.
I will add this. The things you see the boys going through in the video have nothing to do with a girl playing with their emotions or something. This is why delving into the Bangtan Universe is so important. Read the notes, watch ALL the videos tied to it, read the WEBTOON. You’ll have a better understanding but the struggles you see in the video are tied to their characters story lines IN that universe. :) it’s really messed up by the way. And sad.

Bts music is so complex. It stands alone as a song. But if you watch the mv it becomes a whole new meaning. And a whole meaning again as a part of the whole album and discography.

Someone has already mentioned this in the comments but I’m just going to say it anyway. The lyrics of any Bts songs but especially the ones that are in the storyline are usually not about girls. They have deeper meanings. This one in particular doesn’t involve females but more the members themselves. The use of “girl” in the lyric just fit better for the song.

I think we love BTS choreo so much because it's reminiscent of MJ, sometimes subtly and sometimes blatantly. It is not far-fetched to imagine MJ in the center of these dance moves. It definitely shows that Songdeuk grew up close watching the MJ era of pop music. I think MJ would be so proud to see his themes continuing forward through BTS' performances.
To new ARMYs, this is why it's better to watch first their oldest to the most recent MVs to understand the evolution of their music.
