I have one of these sharpeners and have been happy with it. This is aeally nice tutorial. I wish there was some audio commentary with it though, as some of it is confusing to me. E.g. at 1:02, when showing the one green tip and the others red - this seems to be saying that you want all the blades to be the same length (?). Is there some tool to measure blade length? Perhaps it should show some kind of calipers. The video seems to show the user finding the shortest one, but doesn't say what to do then - presumably use more strokes on the longer ones and less on the shorter ones, to try to even them out(?). Also it's odd that it shows loosening and adjusting the chain twice - is that really normal?
Hello! Thank you for your comment! We recommend that you go to a STIHL dealer near you for support and have them show and explain it to you step by step.
You have guessed it correctly! See to it that all teeth are of the same length, so that ALL of them cut the same amount and at the same time when the chain goes through the wood. Make sure that left- and right-cutting teeth are of the same length, too, or your saw will cut a crooked path through the wood. The chain gets tightened for filing more/tighter than for normal chainsaw use, that's why there are 2x chain adjustments shown in the video: 1x tightening fr filing (to avoid/minimizing tooth wobble left/right while filing), 1x tightening for chainsaw use, which is a bit more loose.
I have the Stihl msa 220 which is a great saw and im very happy with it and i bought the 2 in 1 sharpening file off a local dealer but the file never seems to take off much,i gave them the chain size and type in order to have the correct size but when the file is in the tooth it seems to have a fair bit of room and doesn't look like a tight fit,is that the correct procedure?
Hello! Thank you for your reply. As you have mentioned that you have the 3/8'' 2-in-1 easyfile then you do indeed have the correct file. If you are encountering technical issues while trying to sharpen your STIHL MSA 220, we advise reaching out to one of our authorized dealers in your area in order for them to have a look and assist you.
Hello! In order to alleviate any concerns regarding our previous response, we would like to re-phrase that the MSA 220 has a 3/8" Picco (3/8" P) cutting set attached. For the 3/8" Picco chain pitch, we recommend a file diameter of 4.0 mm. For the 3/8" chain pitch, we recommend a file diameter of 5.2 mm. We apologize if any confusion was caused!

Your company is awesome... Without you, I'd have no tools for work! Thank you 🙏 Suppose you can stop and rotate the file and clean it in-between use. The Magnetic-Angle-Plate that Stihl sells is also awesome. I'd recommend using a new file after two, or three sharpenings (personal preference). Each file is currently only £1.60 from my local Stihl dealer.
@@ReggieChump you can do a few strokes, unclip the orange filling port and roll over the round file to rotate with the tip of your fingers whilst it is in the holder. I used up 1 chain with this tool over a year. It hasn't been this sharp as this year. Never used a brush to clean the file in between. The file is far from dull and I'm going over to a second chain now with more groundwork, so lots of grinding to do. I'm comtemplating of buying a second file holder for the 3/8" as well. This works better and faster than a grinding stone sharpener and. And easily be used in the field.

Stihl, I understand your desire to have a video that covers the entire international audience by not having voice and text instructions. But I can't figure out what you are trying to tell us at 0:55 and again at 2:55. Also, how do I immobilize a chain on a pole saw for sharpening since they don't have chain brakes?
Hello! Thank you for your comment! Thank you for your interest. In second 0:55 you can see a chain may only be sharpened up to the wear mark and the smallest cutting tooth should be used as a guide. The smallest tooth is marked so that you know when all the cutting teeth have been sharpened. In 2:55 you can see the process that all teeth are thrown sharpened and here you can see the result that all teeth are now the same size.
@mikekristin7201 seriously!!! Never have I heard this and I've been learning arborist trade from a old timer with 40 years of experience. I think ill tell him your little joke
Great video. I hope all my Sawyer friends from Team Rubicon see this too!

Cost?
But... You can't rotate the file whilst sharpening, or tap/clean the filings out on the file without dismantling.

Avrei bisogno di un commento audio in particolare sulla gestione della lima
Thank you for your honest feedback, feel free to drop any open questions in the comments.
Bro that seems like a huge hassle if your a pro working everyday, are the chains really that expensive.? I rather change blades
Basically you are changing the chain which costs around 20 usd instead of sharpening it and using it for 20 times longer?
Just buy a new chain and say sod it 😂
Rule of thumb is sharpening for every tank of gas. You going to go out and buy a chain five times a day?
